While resting comfortably in your home, you receive a visitor - the prefect.
"What would he want with me?", you wonder. After welcoming him, he opens a conversation you didn't expect. He is not one of those political types, but he is a true roman, loyal to the empire.
"Eight years have passed and although the work of our beloved emperor Marcus Aurelus has faded from people's memory, there are those of us who still cherish the times of his attendance. His son Commodus, a spoiled boy, succeeded the throne, but unfortunately has no interest in administrating the state. The new emperor left the earthly affairs to Cleander, a freedman from Phrygia and a chamberlain of the court. It seems Commodus is more concerned with his appearances in the arena than with managing Rome. At the beginning of this year Cleander, craving for even more power, disposed of the current praetorian prefect, and himself took over supreme command of the Praetorians. He shamelessly continues to sell public offices, like they belong to him. A local man Lucius Septimius Severus was appointed consul, and hopefully will favor our city's well-being. I also heard his cousin was elected proconsul for the African provinces, so there is hope yet."
He ponders for a minute and continues, while you are still trying to contemplate the purpose of this visit.
"While waiting for the political tension to be resolved, we still have to do our work, so I have a task for you:
Leptis magna has always been a small town without much to offer to the empire, but we - you and me, are to change that. I want you to establish a new district, near the eastern docks, at some distance from the existing city. You are probably aware that christians are gaining support, so I want to build the settlement around the old oracle building. That way we will show that the gods have not abandoned us, and hopefully will stop people from converting. I'm also allowing you to take any steps necessary to deal with the numidians, who are lurking around, waiting for a viable attack opportunity to present itself. The old docks were often silted up by sediments, so I expect you to rectify that problem. The land is rich in iron, which converted to weapons, would be a most valuable trade commodity. There is also marble around, which I want you to convert into beautiful large temples for the earthly and the divine. Typically, as you know, the warm climate is not too healthy so you can expect disease to break out from time to time. Finally I must caution you that fish is probably the only way to feed around there, everything else you will have to import. Be careful how you manage the money I'm dispensing, because they are little and there is no more available. Good luck!"
After instructing you, he makes his leave still reflecting on something. Your best guess is that he is troubled about the instability at the capital. Now, back to the daily problems, architects are to be hired, engineers to be employed, temples to be erected ... so much work, so little time. |

Nice storyline, as usual. Have any changes been made to that setting I playtested? |

No, no changes whatsoever. The only way I could change the scenario was to redo it completely, as I'm convinced now I have lost the .map files. The same applies for the other map, which I will upload when the story is ready. |

No Problems with money. Invasions are not many but you need some legionairs.
Creativity: 4
lack of pottery forces to think about city design and how to get prosperity.
Map Design: 4
I was scared about the invasion points and had luck, not building the city where they come from. If you give a hint where invasions are, you can make invasions stronger.
Story/Instructions: 4
(Insert Story/Instructions analysis here)
Additional Comments: nice map, fun to play. but not hard. somewhat easy to normal.
