Victory comes at the end of the month in the last save in the minimum time.
Very Hard. No debt. No loans. No salary. No gifts. No festivals. No cheats (duh).
City is completely stable without intervention for many years since the last 2 or 3 years.
4 blocks of Grand Insulae (25,18,24,13) in the low lands holding 80 GIs in total with one of the blocks touching the cliff of the SE plateau to suply labor for the weapons industry on that native settlement.
A few rich bastards and myself (opportunist) living in that beautiful verdant meadow above everyone else, because, you know, they(not me)'re rich, and they (not me) think themselves better than the others.
Finished the mission before the great battle of 64. Continue for 2 more years to fight it.
Population at the time of victory is about 7400 and it takes 2-3 years to reach the maximum of 7520.
A few empty spaces reserved to cultural buildings that could be filled (were in one of the endings I gave to the mission, but not the one I'm uploadint) if I wanted to turn off the weapons industry and raise the taxes (were 5% all the way). But neither was the cultural buildings necessary, nor the money from the taxes, as I was making 28-29k denari per year selling weapons (145-165) to the natives.
The mission got really easy with all that money.
I had to restructurate (restructure? I don't know!) very few things from the original plan, mainly because of desirability, which I'm not very fond of lose much time calculating (and perhaps that is what distance me from really good players) but anyway, the city is beautiful (imo) and one of my best (if not the best) so far.
Big shoutout to those in the forum, who's posts and, without knowing it (or me) taught me everything I know about this game (which still isn't really much), namely Brugle, Trium, Brugle, CaesarAlan, Catilina, Trium, Brugle, etc. And to the people still somewhat active in the downloads section: Brugle, Eswen, PM, GovernorSimulus, etc, that inspired me to get so involved in this game again, after I had given up on it twice.
I wish I had come back sooner when the forum was more active (back when the game was launched in 98 I was 11, dumb as f**k and didn't know a word in english so, obviously, I gave up) but I'm enjoying it a lot even now.
Thats it!
Moving on to Lindum and then to Pharaoh.
PS.: I really like to use "()" and ",". Don't know if it is orthographically correct in english. In portuguese it is. |

Last time I played Sarmizegetusa, I didn´t abuse natives in this way, so I had big trouble with money. I also didn´t build 2 barracks, so the military part was also more interesting. But anyway, great job! |

Thanks man. From now on I think I won't use this exploit again. It was more of a test. Also I laid down practically the entire road and all houses in 2 years and then starting to upgrade them' which was also the first time I designed this way. But it was fun testing the netives economy. I will continue now with my standard plan of evolving a block quickly to GI to make the taxes pay the salaries and then rush a patrician block. |

After all, there are no natives in Lindum. But it´s not that hard scenario, as invasions comes allways from north, and economy is pretty easy to start. Decent exports, no early imports necessary and lots of resources. I think it´s perfectly possible to finish it even without trade. |

I was thinking about doing it... not without trade, but without exports. But on very hard the starting funds are 5250. dont know I can start profit from taxes with only this money. |

As far as I can remember, the first years are calm on the military side. 5000+ Dn is well enough to start a self sufficient city + local resources allowing development up to medium insulae guarantee enough money from taxes. Keep the unemployment low and you can raise tax rate up to... well, it depends on your city sentiment. There are threads about these topics in the forums. I´ve never tried to build Lindum without exports, but I think it´s not impossible. Also, there are Lugdunum without trade and Valentia without trade challenges in the downloads section.
Oh, and one advice you might find useful to save you from frustration early on: it seems that city health in Lindum is more prone to fall after contaminated water events than it normally would.
Good luck to you.
PS: my only doubt: too large invasions to handle without towers => big expenses on the military. I also don´t remember if it´s possible to import olives.[Edited on 11/19/11 @ 02:23 AM]

Yes. It is possible to import 25 olives and 15 oil, both from the same city. |

It seems more sound with those olives being available... |
