Ever since the conquest of Hispania started, the people of the Roman empire have dreamed of Hispanic gold, and now we have finally found it!
Asturica Augusta has been an important administrative and military centre during this conquest. Now, almost half a century after its founding, I task you to transform this military castra into a provincial capital.
Incomprehensible amounts of gold have been found in the mountains of western Hispania Tarraconensis. With an interesting mining technique called Ruina Montium, where large amounts of water are used to wreck mountains, the gold deposits have been flushed down to a man made lake below the mountains. Since they are being wrecked as we speak I expect regular deliveries of gold one year after you arrive and will continue to do so as the city grows. Eventually, I will be expecting you to send up to two full warehouses at a time to Rome.
By the time you arrive, the military forts will have been demolished to make space for the city. You will be able to build the city wherever you see fit.
As the location is among high reaching mountains farmland is scarce and spread out in the valleys, but it will suffice for the population I require of you. Access to water is also scarce up in Asturica Augusta but you should make use of the water source in the east that was brought in for the military castra. Because of the ruina montium, most of the forests in the area have been cut down. You will have to rely on the neighbouring cities for wood as well as vines, which we have been unable to reliably grow in this region so far.
The local native tribes are open to the roman way of life, and may even be open to trade once they grasp the basics of Latin. A few troublesome Iberians are hiding in the mountains, and I expect you to keep them at bay while building the city. The gold trade will surely be an irresistible bounty, so be prepared! Some of the outlying native huts might be supplying the raiders with food, so any attacks will likely come from those mountain passes.
The natives have been mining small amounts of gold from the surface before they were conquered. Search among their huts for additional sources of gold.
Good luck, governor!

Additional information:
Here is a video that show how Ruina Montium works: https://youtu.be/HrAgh51FNA0?t=188 (From where the video starts and about 1 minute onwards)
Hints:
* Plan where you will build the aqueduct, water sources are very scarce.
* To make trade efficient, transport goods close to the entrance/exit points.
* You are unable to build:
- Plazas
- Hippodrome
- Governor's palace
- Forums
- Wells

Thank you Gweilo! It was tricky to balance, especially with the new gold resource, but I like how it turned out in the end! :) |

Playability: 5
Everything works without issues.
Balance: 5
Thoughfully designed, military is a threat but can be managed if you do not neglect it. Economy is focused on gold and some logistics are challenged. Well designed trade route + resource production area.
Creativity: 5
Very unique, inspired by IRL mining techniques, map is very creative with cliffs, natives and use of "fake" rocks for blockers while limiting mining.
Map Design: 5
Very well designed and thoughfully made, every area has a purpose while still retaining some player choice where to set up certain things apart from mining. Farmland and flatland is therefore surplus to requirement.
Story/Instructions: 5
Very maticulous and well written, AI caesar is cherry on top. Deserves 5+
Additional Comments:
Very good map, not straight forward sandbox by any stretch. Can be bit frustrating with space if you expect standard blocks but that is good. |

I would have liked a little bit more free space but it was great. I like building really big cities.

Amazing!
Additional Comments:
Oh man!! I really really liked this one. Such real history and a great great use of the gold, sand, and stone mechanics. |

Military ramps up at a reasonable pace. Even large scale invasions are mitigated by the fact that Iberians are cowardly and break harder than the britons did in 55BC.

The map is a bit deceptive. While it looks simple, the focus on gold mines means you have to get your districts up and running as quick as possible to ensure you have enough population to keep the spice flowing.
Story/Instructions: 5
amazing historical context given for how Romans actually established mining operations. Truly ahead of their time.

Works as expected.
Balance: 5
Military is just there as an early game money dump. After that it's just not an issue anymore. Which is fine.
The focus on gold really strains your employment levels, which forces you to expand early. All the request push toward expanding in the proper areas. Very well signaled by the mapper what's next.
Creativity: 5
The solve path isn't very narrow. The player has lots of opportunities to make their own decisions. You are more or less guided by Caesar's requests but it doesn't hinder you in how to approach the map. Very well done.
Map Design: 5
The aesthetics of the map are top notch. That alone forces me to give a 5/5. Superb. However, most of the map was not used in my playthrough. Which makes me think that it might be possible to make this map a bit smaller. It's not a bad thing, it's just that I like using the map to the fullest if possible.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story and background of the map, plus how that was conveyed through the instructions alone means everyone should try this map. At this point it's no longer recommended but mandatory. :D
