Salve Governor,
a new city is to be founded on a terrace between the river Rhine and the Table Jura in the north of the Empire. The Colonia is founded as a planned city on a green field, so it does not have to take existing settlement structures into account. As Romes designated Governor for this task, you will select the ideal location and topography for your purposes.
Two streams have formed a plateau with steep slopes, which gives the future city natural protection and a wide view over the Rhine plain. There are numerous small areas of fertile soil on the plateau; these indicate underground water sources. Our architects suggest building reservoirs here to supply the future city with water. The fertile, climatically favourable plains will enable you to supply the city with a sufficient amount of agricultural products.
The river Rhine connects the region to more distant parts of the Empire; The city is therefore a hub from which Rome will also reach the north-western provinces by ship. In addition, the north-south road coming from northern Italy, and the west-east road leading from Gaul to Raetia cross here. So trade is key to the prosperity of the city and the illustrious citizens within it. Therefore, Governor, explore all trading options. Trade for raw materials, manufacture valuable products in your workshops and negotiate lucrative deals; a constant stream of goods through the city must be maintained at all times.
It is foreseeable that these conditions will attract many merchants who will surely want to settle here, once the word of large profits will reach all corners of the empire. But merchants are lazy; they shy away from heavy, physical labour and do not like to get dirty... consider this fact in your preparations.
What's more...? ... Ah yes! Our scouts report that the region is already sparsely populated. The Raurici living here seam suspicious of us, but can certainly be persuaded to trade their terrain for the amenities Rome has to offer. Convince these savages by dazzling them with the immense wealth and prosperity of Rome.
However, their fellow tribesmen settling in the adjacent areas of the region will not be so easily persuaded. A constant threat emanates from these barbarians, which Rome intends to counter with merciless military strength.
Another threat to you are ferocious, wild beasts hiding in the deep, impenetrable forests of the north; these animals must first be taken care of before workshops and farms can be established. Locate and kill these beasts before they prey on our citizens.
And one last thing: Since the city has no access to clay, the governor of Tarraco, after long, hard negotiations, agreed to supply the new city with clay, but he is to be quite well compensated for the effort of opening the trade route. So in the beginning you'd better bypass that cutthroat and get the necessary pottery from Syracusae by ship... they're just selling that stuff as if it was used xylospongium.
Salve.
Additional objectives:
- only use ship bridges
- keep the working labour force as small as possible and fit as many patricians as you can.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Feedback is always highly appreciated and may be implemented in any later updates of the map. Have fun :)
Also, this was my first attempt at hex editing. Taracco and its trading options were added.

Economic and space challenge combination is my favorite types and this map got them. Money is tight at beginning but once you got out of debt, it will be smooth sailing. Military can be more intense, feel like 2,3 javelins can handle them all imho.

Bridge is urgently needed to have a shorter path to base, no raw materials are also nice challenges.

Finished with ~800 workers. Probably can reduce a bit more if culling the export. Overall nice map. Thanks[Edited on 12/27/22 @ 09:05 AM]
