My eighth map
Reaching Marble Island
A northern map
Salve Governor!
In your new task I want you to be the first to develop the famous Marble Island. You have to be careful, there are rumors of some wolf packs being around. They are always looking forward to people landing on the islands which you will have to cross on your way. Moreover, some barbarians have just conquered, or better, destroyed some of our cities in this area. They might become a problem, so you should think of some military defense quickly.
Hint:
It will not make much sense to outwait the attacks from the west side without having connected. So Caesar would be sad about not getting his marble in time and the soft time limit of 30 years would be impossible to fulfill. The goal should be to be ready and prepared when the enemies start entering there.
This is the main challenge of this map.
Goals:
Culture: 40
Prosperity: 90
Peace: 80
Favor: 80
Population: 7037
Time-limit: 30 years (disabled)
Moreover information:
Empire State 19 (Carthago Nova)
Salary: 5 DN (Engineer)
Earthquake: No
Gladiator-revolt: No
Change of Emperor: No
Sea trade problems: No
Land trade problems: No
Rome raises wages: Yes
Rome lowers wages: No
Contaminated water: No
Iron mine collapse: No(t relevant)
Clay pits flooded: No
Specialties:
The scenario is designed for the duration of 30 years. So there will be no attacks, requests etc. after this period.
Blocked buildings: none (except the mission post, which is irrelevant)
Prices will change.
As Caesar will have some requests, there will be opportunities to raise favor (10 units +4, 20 units +5, 30 units +6).
For the Augustus-players:
Clay and marble (after some time) are locally available, timber is not (40 + 15 import / year).
Augustus players could face some problems concerning space and the population goal.
Please do not pay attention to the location in the empire, not fitting to the northern terrain and enemies. It was chosen because of the trade and producing possibilities, which were supposed to fit to my thoughts.
The map was of course several times tested (Vanilla) and beaten.
Feedback (positive, negative) is as usually very welcome. |

Nice to see your city! Thank you for the comment and the uploads.
The second picture could not stay that way for a long time (second invasionpoint). ;)
But you built the bridges soon and evacuated yourself in time, it seems.
Yes, already the first invasion is tough, but at least in Julius I think, it does not make sence to send 12 units in a scenario that is supposed to be hard (not very hard). In german we say "wenn schon denn schon" (meaning: if, then really) ;). The first clear challenge is and was supposed to be being prepared for these attacks, balanced for Julius, as often mentioned.
So the more congrats to winners in Augustus, especially if done so without any kind of exploits, which might be too hard.
In Julius it is pretty easily possible, as my video shows. Even the only exploit with the salary would not even have been necessary. |

Space, especially the starting area, is tighter than I would find most enjoyable.

Excellent, as usual.
Additional Comments:
I won't object to free roaming wolves when they are on islands. That is fair, you know what you are getting into when you build the bridge over to them. |

Thanks for the review.
The starting area is not great, mistakes are forbidden. :)
Some players like it like I do, some do not... ;)
I do not like having small rocks all around, some players do... ;)
All is a question of taste.
Best regards. |

I liked the island hopping idee. Every step (island) forward had its new challenges. At the end of the game you can return to the island you left behind and reshape it. The need to follow a certain time shedule, reaching the marble island in time was a nice tought.
The start of the game was rather tough, always in debt and the need for more workers. After getting to the third island it was a totally different game, more at ease, more time voor the aesthetics.
A liked playen the game and will try some of your other maps.
I uploaded my final city.

Had a lot of fun with the map. Needed a second try because the first invasion was a lot heavier than expected:) In the end I also struggled a bit to get 7k pop in. Used too much space for my palaces.

Loved the island hopping part and the wolves guarding it. I think it was the first map were I had to import raw goods right from the beginning.
Map Design: 5
I like that you have to migrate from the first island to keep trade clean.

Additional Comments:
I was so absorbed by the map, that I even missed my appointment with the hairdresser:D

This is my first custom map and it was a joy to play.
Balance: 5
It's a hard, but not impossible map. Had to reload a few times since locals are extremely fast and charge head first. It was the right amount of challenge for my skill.
Creativity: 5
I really like how parts of the map are locked and you have to keep developing your city. Amazing!
Map Design: 5
See above :)
Story/Instructions: 4
Not really into story and I wasn't sure where to give you a 4 :)
