Isla Sorna
A central map
This map is inspired by the novel “The Lost World” written by Michael Crichton in the middle of the 90s.
R.I.P. Michael Crichton
Goals:
Culture: 40
Prosperity: 90
Peace: 80
Favor: 80
Population: 5037
Time-limit: 30 years (disabled)
Moreover information:
Empire State 27 (Miletus)
Salary: 5 DN (Engineer)
Earthquake: No
Gladiator-revolt: No
Change of Emperor: No
Sea trade problems: No
Land trade problems: No(t relevant)
Rome raises wages: Yes
Rome lowers wages: No
Contaminated water: Yes
Iron mine collapse: No
Clay pits flooded: No(t relevant)
Specialties:
The scenario is designed for the duration of 30 years. So there will be no attacks, requests etc. after this period.
Blocked buildings:
Small temples
Military academy
Wall
Tower
Small temples are blocked, oracles are not. So it is just in the beginning an additional challenge.
Prices will change.
Military will not be intense. Six legions (some legionaries) will be enough to deal with the invasions. There will be no early attack. Economy and a good use of the available space are supposed to be the challenge in this scenario.
As Caesar will have some requests, there will be opportunities to raise favor (10 units +5, 20 units +6, 30 units +7, imported marble +?)
For the Augustus-players:
Timber is locally available, marble and clay are not and both are very limited (15 import / year). I do not know if the scenario can be beaten in Augustus mode.
The map was of course several times tested (Vanilla) and beaten (forced walker block was used).

Playable and very challenging

I like the export price reduction and import price increment. Always tight on finance till the luxury blocks are up. Ceasar demand is fine.

Nice designated position for port and bridge. the reek of water near the entrance was crucial, so thanks for that.

Additional Comments:
Played on Agustus, literally crippled the economy to build Colosseum and oracle (early game). Farm land and fishing just barely enough to support 5000. I needed to remove the supply post after 30 years to supply enough food to the population. I built 8 luxury villa. Would love to see if anyone can build more. Overall amazing map, look forward to similar map like this. Thanks [Edited on 05/15/22 @ 11:12 AM]

@CeasarPizza
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I am happy that it is that positive.
Nice to hear it was challenging, although I was pretty sure about it being that, after my tests. The beginning is tough I think, because of the need to import marble quickly.
"I like the export price reduction and import price increment. Always tight on finance till the luxury blocks are up"
That is what I tried in every scenario so far, sometimes with more, sometimes with less success. :)

Yes it is a bit heavenly there. :)[Edited on 05/18/22 @ 12:18 PM]

The short text is compensated by the map that speaks for itself - very pretty :)
The defense is very simple due to the two small islands at the entrance.
Were they intended for fishing?
Caesar's requests and price changes are well balanced, as usual.
Thank you and keep up the good work :) |

Hello trolgu, thank you for the review!
The small islands had to be there because of my template.
I did not expect players would build something there, so near to the entrance (Baron von PWN nevertheless did so on stream). It is coincidence I must admit, that wharves and bridges are possible there.
Military was supposed to be in the background on this map. It is anyway easy I think, because the enemies split up crossing the bridge.
Some forts are necessary after some time, perhaps this is a small military challenge in the scenario, as money is tight in the beginning.
You are very welcome once more! :) |

My small comment to Baron_Von_PWN's run in Julius after having watched the complete video:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1314144820
Congrats, a very brave and cool run to me!
It made me sad seeing the last army destroying the patricians. Luckily some new soldiers coming along, some prefects and gladiators could stop them in the ruins. The one javelin-army was out of moral. Without that, the enemies would have been stopped (the attacks are designed to be manageable with 6 forts and nothing else).
Why did the dock bug out? So many small things went bad and were unlucky. But you did not get out of concept, kept calm and admirably patient to my mind. So you managed it in the end, against all odds, which I was happy about. It was an exciting "film"!
The soft time limit was not hit, but that is totally okay. Using the "salary-cheese" was the only chance in the end. Many requests must be fulfilled not to be forced to use it (no more coming after 30 years).
Thanks for having called it "a pretty cool little map". I can hear from the smile in your voice, that you had some fun. :) Perfect.
It must be mentioned that I realized a mistake I made concerning religion.
I suggested so far, that one temple to each god is necessary to be able to satisfy him, and only after that an oracle takes care of 500 more inhabitants. This is not the case.
Maybe somebody was surprised by the idea to block small temples but no oracles (also on my maps 4 and 5).
I will not correct this mistake in the uploads, as there are already streams and completed cities.[Edited on 06/05/22 @ 08:59 PM]
