Update 9/29/2023:
Toned down caesar's requests of weapons in later stages.
Added price movements
Minor changes to the small islands as suggested
Note: The map is intended to be played through all of caesar's requests. Maintaining 900 weapons is achievable without missing any other requests, and would make you use most of the terrain. Have fun!
Update 4/26/22:
Lowered win prosperity and culture rating by 10
Increase initial funds a bit
Sailors can now pass through the river to the lake
Note: Due to added in-game buildings, this has been uploaded as a save file. The starting year is Jan 88 BC, 30 years before the start of the conquest of Gaul.
Mallaurium
Now that those squabbly politicians and their mundane orating are out of the way, it is time
to head north and finally conquer the vast expanse of Gaul. Subduing these lands will add great
honor to my name. To do that, I will need first a great number of weapons of the highest quality for our legions.
There is a curious mountain range that our geologists have told me. The iron, as I understand,
is of a very high metallurgical grade unlike any our blacksmiths have forged with. And apparently, a part of this place has been settled before by one of my governors before this discovery. It seems the challenging conditions was too much for him.
I need you to go there and open the mines to provide Rome with the weapons it needs. But
do know, I do not want any more headaches to deal with. So, as tempting as it may be to mine the
ores with slaves, I want you to build a thriving city within that mountain that will do my legacy proud. When the citizenry
hear tales of the caliber of our weapons, they will speak of Mallaurium.
I will provide you with much you need and have instructed neighboring cities to increase trade.
I will be demanding ever increasing shipments of weapons, so be on your mettle.
Vulcan's fire be with you Governor, and glory to Rome!
Scenario info -
An economic challenge with a focus on logistics and trade.
No invasions
The emperor will gradually increase his request of weapons from a range of 40 - 900 units within 30 years.
Tips -
The ores are usually located deep in the mountains and can be prospected by the large rock formations.
Playability: 3
I would say this is playable somewhat, it took me 4 tries to complete it but my plan is to reach the goal before the 900 requests.
I am not sure if its doable if you reach the point where caesar requests 900 weapons each successive years, not only do you lose a bulk of your export income but you have to allocate at least 200 weapons workshop to keep up with it (which comes with its own problems eg. workforce, space, wages etc.)
The moment you missed even one of the 900 requests, your favor drops down fast and you won't be able to push the favor up again.
Balance: 3
Same as above.
Creativity: 5
Overall I like the idea of a greedy caesar but maybe instead of 900, make it 500 instead of 900? Or even 750 every 2 years.
Map Design: 5
Only thing i can think of to improve is to maybe remove the natives (i didn't use them at all because i didn't want the land traders to go all the way across the map to reach my native trader warehouse, if you know what i meant).
The middle islands could have allowed bridge access maybe? The rocks are really annoying, as there are good land connections if the tiny islands allow bridge.
Story/Instructions: 5
Unreasonable caesar don't deserve the weapons! Even a slave driver knows when to use the whip!
