My fifth map
The valley of St. Andrea rivers
A central map
Salve Governor!
You managed to pacify the Mediterranean Skagerrak and to establish Rome’s glory, defeating the rebelling greeks again and again. That stabilized the power of the empire in this important area, the senat in Rome is very content with my accomplishments.
But peace does never last long, as you know. Our scouts reported, that the greeks seek revenge. This is not a surprise, but it seems they are raising a really gigantic army. It is not on its way yet, but it will no more take long, we can be sure.
I do not want them to reach my empire. You will stop them in the Valley of St. Andrea rivers, in their own land. The army will have to pass this area, which is idyllic nature right now. That will change. But be warned. You will need a very strong defense. The scouts found out by some spies, that they are still recruiting loads of young warriors from all over their country. They want the whole Greece back, it seems.
The senat already gave up on this, I can tell you. Our troops are urgently needed in other parts of the empire, so you have to start at zero. Nevertheless I am sure I can rely on you, supporting the neighboring roman states with the weapons urgently needed. And I personally might want to taste the wine of the vines growing on this fruitful piece of land.
My new outpost should also be prosperous. I want to demonstrate my power to these greeks once more.
Now go on your way, the ship with your escort is already waiting.
Governor… If I ever see you again, I will reward you richly!
"I do also not really believe in that, I must admit", thought Caesar, as he shook hands with his unfortunate governor.
Goals:
Culture: 0
Prosperity: 90
Peace: 80
Favor: 80
Population: 7037
Time-limit: 30 years (disabled)
Moreover information:
Empire State 30 (Carthago II)
Salary: 5 DN (Engineer)
Earthquake: No
Gladiator-revolt: No
Change of Emperor: No
Sea trade problems: Yes
Land trade problems: Yes
Rome raises wages: Yes
Rome lowers wages: No
Contaminated water: Yes
Iron mine collapse: No(t relevant)
Clay pits flooded: No(t relevant)
Specialties:
The scenario is designed for the duration of 30 years. So there will be no attacks, requests etc. after this period. To keep the map interesting for Augustus-Players, the time-limit is disabled. Julius-players can keep the limit in mind.
The road to Rome has to be completed in the beginning by four bridges.
Blocked buildings:
Small temples
Military academy
Small temples are blocked, oracles are not. So it is just in the beginning an additional challenge.
Prices will change.
As Caesar will have many requests, there will be opportunities to raise favor (10 units +4, 20 units +5, 30 units +6)
The first goal in this scenario is to resist the big wave. There will arrive three maximum sized armies (120 units, on very hard even more) in three consecutive years from the northeast, before 10 years are over. You will be warned (regular enemies). As there is no military academy available, javelins are very weak (horses not to mention). Iron or weapons need to be imported by sea. When the big wave is over, military activity will slow down to a medium level, so if your armies get wiped out, there will be time to recover.
For the Augustus-players:
Marble is locally available, timber and clay are not and both are very limited (15 import / year).
Please do not pay attention to the location in the empire, not fitting to the central terrain and enemies. It was chosen because of the trade and producing possibilities, which were supposed to fit to my thoughts.
The map was of course several times tested (Vanilla) and beaten.
A preview to the map is available here:

Feedback (positive, negative, here on heaven or on YouTube) is very welcome. |

This scenario deserves full marks IMHO.
It's highly recommended for those who like military challenges :D
You have time to prepare for the attacks, although the frequent CW events can be a bit of a hassle.
It will be very difficult to defend the city if you dont know time and place of the invasions ;)

Thanks trolgu, for the very positive review.
This time I also put some efforts in telling a backgroundstory. :)
"...although the frequent CW events can be a bit of a hassle"
When I tested the map before it was finalized, favor was pretty difficult and the last goal I could reach. I did not like that, so I added some more requests and had in the end again all 20. For you, wanting to fulfill every single request as an additional goal, it is tough, especially weapons I suggest.
"It will be very difficult to defend the city if you dont know time and place of the invasions ;)"
Regarding the first three attacks (the big wave), it is necessary for each player, having read the instructions. ;)
I kept on putting the invasion points on spots that are relatively easy to handle and obvious, like in the other scenarios.
I did not want military to be in the foreground of this map, except in the beginning, as a clearly named event. So the numbers of invasions is for the first time on my maps not at the maximum.
Thanks for having played and enjoyed this scenario. I look forward to see your completed city and the early saves. :)[Edited on 03/30/22 @ 03:06 PM]

Playability: 5
(Insert Playability analysis here)
Very challenging, without clay and timber, augustus player may need to prolong the map to build monument.
Invasion is impossible if not knowing the direction.
Balance: 5
(Insert Balance analysis here)
Map without clay mine is very hard. All resource need to be shared nicely.
Creativity: 5
(Insert Creativity analysis here)
the amount of fishing and the distribute of farm lands are nice touch.

Hi CeasarPizza,
thank you for that new and very positive review.
You are right, for Augustus-players it is especially hard on this map. So there is no actual time-limit. Augustus-players not having the possibility to build their monuments is not good. :) Even if it takes enourmous time on this map, I can imagine.
I will think of that next time and pay attention on clay and timber being at least more available than 15 units / year.
"Invasion is impossible if not knowing the direction."
True, so I warned everybody in the description and told the direction. ;)
"Map Design: 5
amazing as usual, very aesthetic"
Thanks a lot. |

Salve CIP_86,
I use the abbreviation CW for "contaminated water" :)
Caesar's requests are very fair and allow 100 favor without gifts. |

any augustus players completed this map? coz i reached the point where i stabilized my pop at 5k and pushing back caesar's legions every year, but no way of pushing back the favor up
using collosseum to push favor up won't work since there's barely any wages and wheat is limited |

@sasa86
I did on Augustus mode, I think I have fulfilled most of Ceasar request from beginning. IIRC, Occasionally raise a "fast salary" so you have enough money to give gift and then reduce it back.

first and foremost, thanks to CeasarPizza for his confirmation.
Playability: 4
I am doing this on augustus, so while the map certainly is doable it is very challenging with almost no room for mistakes especially the early game.
Balance: 4
As mentioned above.
Creativity: 5
Map Design: 5
Both prosperity and max pop criteria is set just about right for the high challenge.
Story/Instructions: 5
I like the idea of an incoming wave of huge armies.

@Sasa86
Thanks for the very positive review.
Nice to hear playing the map was challenging.
On Augustus mode it is more difficult, no question.
When I play it (Vanilla, on very hard) I do sometimes win and often loose (favor under 10) and have to reload.

Okay I got you wrong there with that CW :)[Edited on 05/11/22 @ 07:15 PM]
