My third map
Celtic Highlands
A northern map with splitted areas, all of them will have to be settled for various reasons. Wolves keep some of them for themselves and should be eliminated before these areas come to use.
The basic idea was the road to Rome following an elevated path meandering the map, splitting it.
Seatrade is not an issue at the beginning. It can only be done after the areas overseas were developed (costly).
Goals:
Culture: 0
Prosperity: 90
Peace: 80
Favor: 80
Population: 8037
Time-limit: 30 years
Moreover information:
Salary: 5 DN (Engineer)
Earthquakes: No
Gladiator-revolt: No
Changing emperor: No
Problems seatrade: Yes
Problems landtrade: Yes
Increasing vages: Yes
Lower vages: No
Contaminated water: Yes
Collapsing ironmine: No
Collapsing claypit: No
To keep things challenging regarding economy, the prices of exports will collapse, those of imports will increase.
As Caesar will have many requests, there will be opportunities to raise favor, mostly for +4, sometimes a bit more.
The number of invasions is at the maximum (30). Up to 120 enemies will enter (on very hard even more). A fortress of towers will be necessary at the one obvious spot. There will be no attack in the first three years, but some forts are nevertheless soon required.
Please do not pay attention to the location in the empire, not fitting to the northern terrain and enemies. It was chosen because of the trade and producing possibilities, which were supposed to fit to my thoughts. I like northern maps far the best (smooth green, pleasant to the eyes).
The map was of course several times tested (Vanilla) and beaten.

Another beautiful map!
I had to build the city little by little, considering the enormous expense required to defend the city, the cost of naval bridges and imports. As usual once I built the patrician quarter money was no longer a problem and I achieved my goals quickly. I found the invasions and demands from Rome well balanced.
Thanks for creating this map! |

Hello again exiaraiser! :)
Thank you for the kind words to the scenario.
Nice to hear, military is balanced! I had some worries it might be too intense for some players not liking much military (which I can understand).
I do like it.. :D Much, but not too much. That is what I try.
Would you perhaps like to give also a review? Perhaps also to the other map "Mediterranean Skagerrak?"
I by the way improved that map since you played it (no more lower wages, just increasing, lower salary to make the requests senseful).
Thanks for the comment and, also at this scenario, you are very welcome!
PS:
There are of course "only" 20 invasions, which is the maximum, not 30.[Edited on 03/17/22 @ 03:19 PM]

A very nicely designed scenario which is great fun to play through :)
The game idea is similar to Mediterranean Skagerrak, bridges are needed for lucrative exports, the prices for the best export item (at first glance) are falling.
I also liked that in the year before the earliest end, there are bigger attacks.

Thanks for the review!
"The game idea is similar to Mediterranean Skagerrak,.."
True, when I finished this map, I realized it had arisen a mixture of my first two maps. Even the path of the Road to Rome is nearby the same as in "Guarding the Mountain Pass". Quite funny, as it was not done consciously.
I am happy to hear it could spend some fun. :) |

Playability: 5
(Insert Playability analysis here)
Hard on Augustus mode with food supply. Invasion is a bit much but with a lot of tower and barricade it can manage.
Balance: 5

tough but doable, satisfy ceasar requests is a must to get the favor

Very nice map.

Amazing design, make a mistake placing the forts wrong and need to rebuild them. THe partition of housing, economic, luxury island is well thought

Additional Comments:
Very challenging map, judging by the number of file saves I had xD. |

Salve CeasarPizza,
thanks a lot for your review!
Yes, the celts really try to conquer this area back, that is true. :)
I think in Augustus mode the map is pretty much harder than in Julius, which I play (Vanilla in fact). Monuments are hardly possible I think, dued to the (changing) price of marble and the time limit.
In my new map (The valley of St. Andrea rivers) I have removed the time limit. I will stick to that to make things more balanced for the Augustus players.
I am pleased to read you had fun with this scenario and that it could challenge you. |

Not much of a story, but that's not a big deal.
Additional Comments:
The wolves force you to make military to access new areas, but don't start free roaming; perfect! |

@TheBlobber:
Thank you for having taken the time to give a review.
Usually the wolves are not free roaming on my maps, "Conquering the Rocky Pyramid" was an exception.
Sometimes I feel like telling a story (not refering to any "real" historical backgrounds), sometimes I don't.
When I play a custom map, I do (also) not care that much about it, although I respect the map makers making efforts and searching for historical backgrounds that fit.
Thanks for the very positive review. |
