Celtic Problem
My most trusted Consul, we face a new problem! The upcoming construction projects in Rome demands high quantity of quality timber from the northern regions of the empire. Sadly, these provinces are home of the notorious Celts and they are not eager to allow Roman presence in their lands, as well as they are not willing to trade timber from their ancestral forests. So, you must get hold of this region and prepare the timber shipments in time.
We want to establish a permanent settlement, or a city should I say? Your task is not to build just a small lumber camp, I demand a city with high ratings to project Rome’s power over the Celts. Wall your city and raise legions to defend the region from hostile raids. The Celts might surprise you, so do not underestimate them. Oh, one more thing, keep an eye on your citizens’ health!
TL;DR:
Standard C3 style mission
Many invasions, fill requests to gain favor
Notes: Difficulty of the mission may vary of the RNG elements of the game. |

Additional Comments:
This is a nice scenario with lots of trading options and the possibility to prepare well for the final invasion.
I have a few points to make about the final invasion:
It's scheduled with 200 enemies in the map builder at standard level Hard.
This results in these theoretical values for the different difficulty levels:
VH 240 - H 200 - N 160 - E 120 - VE 80
I removed all towers and troops in my attempt before the last invasion and counted the enemies with the C3DataMiner tool from Trium and Brugle:
VH 150 - H 150 - N 150 (all with enemyF 30 and EnemyH 120)
E 120 (EnemyF 24 - EnemyH 96)
VE 80 (EnemyF 16 - EnemyH 64
The cap of 150 enemies per invasion makes the differences between VE and N level disappear.
If that is not the intention, I recommend planning for a maximum of 120 (or 125) enemies per invasion.

Nice map, no hidden surprises. Manage your army well and it is quite easy!
Balance: 3
I gave it a 3 for 2 reasons. One, under Augustus, any map with no native production of marble is a bit unbalanced (monuments!! Large AND small - Large Temples and Oracles). This one has better offer than some others but still, if you want to build ALL the big monuments, it will take AGES!
Two, invasion scale too fast in quantity of troops. I raised FOUR legions early on (Augustus, multiple barracks enabled), one cavalry, 3 javelins. Third invasion obliterated my troops like they were paper thin (Academy trained no less!!). You need lots of walls/towers AND at least TWO Legionnaries/four javelins. Final invasion did not even break the walls, so scaling is a bit off.
Creativity: 5
No complaints.
Map Design: 5
Excelent placing of resources/open spaces. Lots of ways to build, except for walls/towers that is! Avoid anything 8-10 tiles off the map edges.
Story/Instructions: 5
This is a 5 always! ;-)
Additional Comments:
One small problem is money on this map. You CAN make it, don't get me wrong. Once you start importing though, you BLEED money until your marble needs are done! Plus, you can import Olives but nobody wants your Oil. You can make weapons but ONE city buys 15 (increased many years later, I think it was after the invasions stop). If ONE of these was differently, this map would be much less of a toil! Still, toil or not, a very enjoyable experience. Keep it up. |

Thank you all for the reviews!
@Maegnas
Im aware of the problems that Augustus causes and the mod has many flaws. Monuments can't be build on every map, or it may be extremely frustrating. I test my maps few times on Classic C3 before release. This is map is not intended to play with Augustus. Those scenarios can be found on different page.
Mission briefing hints to build legions, cavalry is total carbage. Augustus mod affects the military units by feeding them variety of food.
If you had money problems, it can be due the Augustus mod's levies also. |
