Installation instructions:
copy the Ectelon.map file to your caesar 3 map on your C drive
(for me: C:/GOG games/Caesar 3)
then start up the game and you should find Ectelon in your city construction kit.
Easy as that :D
No minimap available, srry :/

Hi there!!! Thanks for playing this map!
This is the first map I made and damn is it difficult! :D (I thought so on the first try at least :p after a couple of times it's quite a bit easier! )
Since this is a custom map, there is no official briefing in-game.
Therefore, I made this text document with a self written briefing and some extra information, as well as my experience with this map.
(note for the history freaks who play this map: I know Hannibal didn't invade Brittain, but this is fictional ;) )
----------------------------------------------------
BRIEFING FROM CAESAR.
population: 15000
Culture: 75
Prosperity: 75
Peace: 100
Favor: 90
Hannibal, our greatest enemy, has come up with another evil plan.
This time he brought his Elephants all the way to the northern borders of our empire to attack us from Brittain.
I need you to stop him! Build a major city at the borders of our great Roman empire to defend it from Hannibal.
There is a great province near Lindum called Ectelon. It's fertile and open for trade routes: Ideal for a new capital of the north.
I require very high ratings for this province, so Hannibal can see what we, the mighty Romans, can build!
Set up your exports quickly! I'll give you a nice sum of money, but use it wisely. He will attack sooner then expected!
Not only Hannibal, but also barbarians would like a nice spot near this province. They'll strike you hard!
Good luck, I hope you won't dissapoint me!
----------------------------------------------------
ADVICE: when you start the map, make sure to pause the game and have a look around. This way you can check out:
- the ratings
- the trade routes
- the province itself
- your loan
- wolves and tribes
----------------------------------------------------
Extra information
On this map you'll find:
- wolves
- A LOT of military activity (sometimes, you won't even be warned they're coming!)
- 2 native villages
----------------------------------------------------
My experience with this map (POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!):
Although this is my first map, I think I did a good job :)
It took me a second try to complete all the ratings, because I failed to defend against the military in the early stage on my first time.
Earlygame: some money and militaristic problems
Midgame: no problems except that 1 minor earthquake (it shouldn't do much damage to your city)
Lategame: DAT PROSPERITY RATING THO: this really killed me :D I had to build around 10 luxury palaces to get it. Because of that, I had some issues with employment as well.
When I made this map I found a glitch tho. Each time I'd set up a demand from caesar, he asks for military help elsewhere in the empire as well, without me setting it up!!??
Luckily, it's always a small force and even 1 javelin fort can handle it :) It proposes a nice extra challenge in my opinion. This is one of the reasons why the favor
rating needed is pretty high as well since 90 is not that difficult to get on this map ;)
After a review from a couple of people i came to the conclusion that the 15000 people goal is a bit too high. it's just the same as 10000, it only takes longer. I'll keep it in mind next time :) I was pretty generous with the farmland as well and the earthquake could have been more challenging, not on the edge of the map like that.
I would rate my own map 6/10
THANKS FOR PLAYING AND GOOD LUCK!!!
(sorry for possible crappy English... It's my 3rd language)

Nice scenario, easy for the regular game players, toughness equal to the original game scenarios...[Edited on 11/27/20 @ 01:16 AM]

Everything works, there is nothing to complain about.
Balance: 4
Dued to the lots of exports, money is not an issue. Military can be handeled, especially if the enemy meets some towers, where he enters mostly.
Food is more than enpough available. I think the farmland could have been reduced a bit.
The earthquake is very tiny and does not matter.
The natives are not owning any land that one needs to use.
Normal difficulty was a good choice, I think.
Creativity: 4
Areas splitted by rivers is a good idea in general I think.
Map Design: 3
The design is good to me so far, but I miss some more details. Perhaps some single trees spread around or small rivers would have made it more beautiful.
Story/Instructions: 4
Additional Comments:
I built three huge forced walker blocks, one of them patricians. I played with Vanilla on very hard.
Thanks for having created that map, it spent some fun. |
