LUGDUNUM BATTLE
Hail governor,
"We have established Roman presence in the province of Gaul decades ago, but this harsh land still resists the beacon of Roman civilization. Our attempts to bring culture, trade and prosperity, is met with hostile raids from the eternal Gaul forests. The time has come to civilize this barbaric territory."
"You are sent to the confluence of the Rhone and Saone rivers, to found the city of Lugdunum at this strategic location. Approach the locals in a friendly manner, and show them the economic and cultural benefit of becoming an integral part of the Roman Empire. With your construction effort, Lugdunum should become the shining capital of Gaul."
"Our scouts located iron at abandoned mines across the rivers, but remember, the area is still a military zone. Expect frequent raids from the north and also be prepared to send legions to aid military operations elsewhere in the region."
"I have faith in you. Erect the capital of Gaul and bring civilization to this barbaric land."

Thanks for playing and commenting. Congratulations for finishing with such high scores. With this scenario, my intention was to give ample land and food so if someone wants to build a really big city, they can. |

Nothing to say here. It works.
Balance: 3
The amount and positioning of the food was great. Not completely out in the open but not so difficult to build around, it made it an interesting and enjoyable game for building around. I loved the limited and difficult access to mining and loved the opportunity to make a custom poorer pleb block of miners.
I'm not too impressed with the invasions. They were rapid and scaled nicely but they ended quite soon and the biggest problem were that almost all of mine were on the other side of the NW river, an area with very little incentive to build anything. The natives are there but plenty can be made by trading with the regular traders (although I did not export anything at all in my game). There -is- are to mine iron and marble there, but there is also minable rocks on the safer side of the river. removing these entry points or giving the player reason to expand over the river would improve this.

I enjoyed this, it felt like a career map

Beautiful and natural feeling. The rivers were very well made.
Story/Instructions: 5
I'm not a story man, so you're getting a default 5.
Additional Comments:
I enjoyed this map a lot.

Thank you for playing and rating my map DDR Jake. I am flattered by the high scores you gave and I am happy that you enjoyed playing this scenario.
After having made some scenarios with a twist, this one was intended to give people a good old campaign feeling, as you noted. I was focusing on geographic and historical accuracy on this one (those rivers were actually drawn after google mapping modern Lyon)

A little more military action with more attackers would have been nice.

It would be a little more exciting if iron mines are only possible near the native village and Caesar also requests weapons.
