I have two 1 Tera which went insane (my colleague's and mine). Disks were empty, but we knew that they were not. My excellent congolo-rwandese tech installed for me Recuva, which does a splendid job (the files recovered are perfect) but it is so slow that you could kill yourself and the software, even under "advanced options" does not take into account the job already done, so you have to start from scratch all over again, when my idea was to do two hours of job, and again and again until the end of it as I cannot plug an external drive for a week with the power cuts that we have here. What say you?

I've just read up on Recuva including a review from 2015.
Doing a deep scan is extremely slow (the reviewer had his computer down to a crawl), doing it on 1TB disks makes things even worse (the larger the disk the more data to process).
As far as I understood from the review it is possible to let the program erase files it has already recovered but I would be pretty wary about using that option.
In the revierw, the recommended method with a deep scan is copy/paste the filenames into the search tool in the program which will speed up the process a bit. Problem here is naturally you need to know the name of the file you like to recover.
To me it looks like the best option would be connecting the computer used for recovering the files to a power generator so you avoid the power cuts.

The version I have does not even allow that. You cannot touch the drive being scrutinized. You cannot even save the recovered files on said drive, you have to export them. I assume that other users have already told them, and a fix to this will be created. Or not.
Otherwise Recuva is top class.

The reason you can not save the recovered files on the damaged drive is else some unrecovered files could easily be overwritten.

Yes, I got that one. Unless you write on the exact same locations.

I tried every other option in order to delete or change the status of files already screened. Although I had warnings that "this could do that", all lead to nothing: Recuva just does not do its own proposed recommendations. Always back to the beginning.

According to the website of the people behind Recuva, the free version can only restore files so that is likely why the other options does not work.

Hi PCD,
I suddenly have a problem with my mail box Hotmail.
Everything displays fine, I see my mails but cannot open any or even visualize them. When I click on any mail, or folder, nothing happens, I see that no byte is even debited, like if a link is broken somewhere and my request is just ignored.
Otherwise evrything looks normal and the the menu works well.

Got it, took me hours. From what I read there was a breach in an Avira update and the gates became wide open. I installed a primitive version of Avira, eradicated 69 trojans and reinstalled Hotmail for the second time, but this time it works normally.
