I don't think a roll call is really necessary, but I thought I'd give you all an official welcome regardless.

And yes, I'd agree that putting up a forum like this is somewhat of a broad hint of things to come

Pre-release information, screenshots and an interview can be found here.

Hi all,

Been playing C3, Pharaoh and Emperor for a while now, and although never posted here, have spent much time reading!

I keep hearing people mention CotN "going Gold" and I must admit that I have absolutely no idea what that means.

Anyone care to elaborate?

posted 10-23-04 23:38 ET (US)     27 / 71
Going gold means that a release date has been set.

Gamers have a lot of weird terms...vanilla and chocolate games and going gold among them.

Actually going gold means that the final master cd has been made and sent to be reproduced. The term apparently comes from the fact that master cd's used to be gold in colour. At that stage a release date can usually be announced with some certainty.

Thanks for the info Adder and Mere!

Mere has it right. This description...

Quote:

*If the game has gone gold, it means that a so called master disc has been sent to the publisher, who then puts the game through a final round of quality assurance.

...actually describes what is called a Release Candidate. The publisher may ask for changes on the Release Candidate. The developer makes those changes then submits another Release Candidate, and so on, until the publisher grants a final approval for the Gold Master.

If it's gold, baby, it's on its way to the store!

Hi you all. I'm so excited cotn went gold that i finally decided to register and post a message.
I've been reading this forum for at least 3-4 years now, I found lots of helpful hints while playing pharaoh/zeus/emperor (the blocks you created are amazing guys). I just wanted to say HI to you all.

BTW, do you have an idea if cotn will still have blocks? I understood it doesn't, is that correct.

Ciao

Ghimen from everything I've seen and read nothing about CotN will be like the past CB games It's supposed to be all new concept instead of making money(it's the barter system no money), you have to keep your people happy.

Ghimen - Hi and welcome to HGS Citybuilders! In COTN you'll be well advised to build blocks just to keep your city organized efficiently, but it won't be the kind of rigorous system it was in the older games. People have to go about their lives in an efficient manner or they won't accomplish everything they need to do in the course of a day. So shops, temples, doctors, etc. have to be easy to get to in a timely manner. In that way, it's a wonderfully organic simulation of a city...

Ghimen,
As you can see from the previous replies to your question, the answer depends on your personal playing style.

Hello everyone. Just thought I'd pop in from lurking and say the site looks wonderful. I just finished installing a new video card so I can play the game. I'm too exhausted right now to load the game tonight, but I'll get a fresh start in the morning. I've read the manual cover to cover, a few times, so I'm ready to start.

And here's a little blast from Pharaoh past:

After 6 years of lurking on these sites (ever since C3) and taking advantage of eveyone's knowledge and ideas I decided to de-lurk and say hello to everyone. I don't get the game (here in Blighty) until February but when I get it I hope I'll be yaking part in many discussions.

6 years of lurking !!!! That has to be a record.

I guess I may have to re-incarnate myself for this one, and revive the old name too.
Had to add this too...

Hi, fellow citybuilders,
Just like cartpusher, I have "lurked" here around since CaesarIII (read: making use of other people their strategies ), but never felt the urge to post.
With CotN coming (I'm from the Netherlands, and my financial situation does not allow me to order it from oversees, so I'll have to wait til february), I felt I had to register, so here I am.
Oh, one thing, actually my nick used to be Theris264 (without the space), but my AoMH account doesn't work here, so now I have this one.

It's too bad this game has such a stagnant community...

10-year old games such as AOE have a much more active community than this!

Either way, in a pathetic attempt to restore some more intrest in what I think is a wonderful game, I will begin contributing vastly to the downloads central with many different projects... Due to the fact that the COTN editor is quite a drag it will take awhile, but I will need to polish them and put out lots effort in order to create an interesting scenairo/campaign.

Look for some of these soon in the downloads central... You won't be dissapointed. ;-)

The community isn't stagnant. It just isn't at the HG forums. All of the CotN fans are at the Tilted Mill forums. The community is much more active than you think. We have around 30+ User-created scenarios available for download, some with highly unique effects and events that the developers themselves didn't seem to think of when the made the built-in scenarios.

I apologize for being naive.... :-(

Rather srtrange that you would go there I ask?

But anyhow, to anyone who wants to listen, I will send anything I make for this game through HG... I'm currently rating all the sent scenairos.

Why is that strange? The TM forums is the official place for CotN.

True, but HG is more organized. :-P

I guess I'm just used to it.

posted 02-14-07 19:52 ET (US)     48 / 71
Well, HG has more CotN haters than fans, however.

It's all good, though. Everyone's a critic.

Been a while since I've been here. Hi again everyone.
Started playing the game again - I am one of those who got burned-out in testing, sadly. Now enough time has passed that it is again fresh to me, and all the teething aggravations are looong forgotten.

I was looking for some pretty layouts but couldn't find one for Nekhen - ok, ok I know it is the first one, but hey, I said I had started over.

It's going well, but untidy as mine always were. I'd just like to see some pix of others layouts and couldn't find any for Nekhen. Anyone got any?

And hopefully I won't be a stranger so much!

Welcome back Miut.

Walkthroughs for all of the missions can be found here.

Jayhawk posted a few screenshots in this thread. And I posted a couple in this thread.

I see that you still have “Writer” listed as your occupation in your profile. However, I haven’t seen anything from you since '03.

On May 19, 2003 I posted in the Currently reading thread:

Finished “Between Darkness and Light” by Miut (Lisanne Norman) last night, the seventh book in her Sholan Alliance series. Every novel was better than the one before (and I enjoyed the first one), but imho, “Between Darkness and Light” was by far her best work yet. The empathy that you feel for her characters is extraordinary.

This work is very much a ‘series’ without an ‘ending’ between novels. The main characters in the first novel are still around in the seventh, but each book introduces many additional personalities. To attain the full effect of the latest book, I certainly suggest that you start ‘from the beginning’ with “Turning Point”.

I am anxiously awaiting the next novel.
Write faster Miut.

Can I (and, I'm sure, many others as well) expect anything new soon?
