Hi all!

You people have posted some fine ideas for different house blocks. Now I was just wondering, has anyone ever tried long and narrow house blocks? Well, here's one I'm tempted to try.
As you can see, it has only ancestral access, and no acupunctrurist nor acrobats (so this is a bronze-age block).
Would this kind of block have a useful purpose? I suppose there may be some maps, where you can build only on a narrow patch of land, but I think it would be limited to something like that.

This loop is 56 tiles long.

Well, this is not a housing block, but a farm block.
Some time ago I did some tests in the farming habits of the farmers. They don't really have the time to take care of the whole field they have their hands at. And that's why I overlap the farms. A lot. Even, if the farms have more than one crop to work with.
Here's the layout I use most commonly (this time with three different crops). And the same goes for hemp farms.

What do you think? I think the jutting-out bit at the bottom is a waste of space, but it does look excellent when you "frame" a statue this way...

Quelle programme, chris85? Les 'glyphs'? C'est un mode qu'on peut montrer les blocs de maisons qu'on utilise pendant le jeu. Je ne sais pas comment il marche moi-même, mais si vous voulez l'utiliser, je trouverais quelqu'un qui peut vous aider. (Excusez, s'il vous plaît, mon français exécrable)

Cependant, ce n'est pas tellement difficile de recopier les images dans le jeu; il faudrait imprimer l'image ou quelque chose, bien sûr, mais c'est assez simple. J'ai déjà utilisé plusieurs de ces blocs...

It's possible I'm hallucinating, wolf-mage, but it doesn't look like your palace is receiving coverage from an inspector, so it will eventually burn down. The administrative city in the famous administrative city block is covered when the inspector turns the corner on each side, coming within two tiles. In your block, the inspector is always more than two tiles away. You should be able to fix it by eliminating the flowering trees inside the loop, shifting two houses on each side up or down a tile, and adjusting the roads.

Also, the houses in the top corners are not in direct contact with a road, so they won't be settled - this isn't Caesar III or Pharaoh. You'll have to replace them with decorations or shift things around a bit.

Hi pagh,

Firstly, to ensure that the palace didn't collapse, I set one of those two gates to allowing inspectors. (Because the tower was evolved, the coverage was still good enough to keep the block stable.)

However, your suggestion is virtually identical to the change I implemented on the next map (which I'll edit in later): I moved the road on the bottom outer sides in by one, slightly altering the layout of the houses.

Also, I'm not sure why those houses are there in the corners. Either they were meant to be statues, or I put the Grand Ways in wrong. *shrugs*

By the way... That AC block is not stable, because it is 58 tiles long. (The block occasionally has Acupuncturist/Herbalist problems.) I normally simply shorten it a bit... what about you?

Hmmm, it seems that not the entire set of glyphs is visible in the post. The Imperial way to the right of the page is missing although the column width is exactly 50.

The other services go around in any way they can fit with also a mill and warehouse on each side. After all that, roadblocks are placed leading our of the entire area and another round can be placed around the WHOLE THING, i.e. another round of houses and then services. It makes a giant squared of 6x6 or so of elite houses. You can do the same with ordinary houses for many many more packed into it.

Just started playing, and kept getting frustrated with the small amount of crops being harvested...so I came up with the following. If you're able to grow a third crop, you won't get much, but you'll have all the farmers you need for the central 3x3 empty space.

Hey VAIA & HOMEGROWN, you just found yourself another cumpulsive game player, i've played on emperor for a good couple of years now, so hopefully my experience should be valuble. i have my own housing block designs as well as a few helpful tips. i only found this site yesterday so i havent got my designs drawnup yet, so ill get on it rite away.P.S. When I played Zeus, I used to arrange my road and houses in some kind of a snake pattern. Not closed blocks of houses but a continuous pattern that is very space efficient and also extremely expandable. I will try to draw that when I get the hang of this glyph generating stuff but the basic idea is that two long lines of houses are anclosed with a high appeal road but at one end the passage is blocked by roadblocks. Right next to those go another two lines but the blocks are placed on the opposite side. Kind of a giat zig-zag pattern.
All markets and religious buildings fit at the ends of those lines well and the shortcuts with roadblocks allow markets to get supplies easily. The only buildings that should be placed along with houses are wells and watchtowers.
I just hope I make sense :roll:

The block is designed so that some of the houses can be made into elite just by switching the two food vendors in each market to one food and one luxury item. Also I split the warehouse space (64 total) to one warhouse being 16 ceramics / 16 tea and the other being 16 hemp / 16 paper.

First time poster for this site. I just barely found you guys, and I've been playing Emperor for the last 4 or 5 years now. Just starting to try out the campaign on Very Hard and having another round of fun with all of the custom campaigns (mostly by Gweilo). I've been very impressed.

I had a couple of questions though. Does anyone have Malv's designs somewhere? They don't seem to be accessible from this site anymore, and the pics are missing as well. I'm very curious as to what those designs look like since everyone compliments them!

Unfortunately, all my designs are pretty basic and efficiency oriented, though after I beat the Very Hard campaigns, I'm going to try VH + perfect Feng Shui.

Hello Serax666, and welcome to Emperor Heaven.

I think you are talking about MarvL, right? When he closed down his 'Serpentinium' site a few years back, he did so without warning. Some of us have tried contacting him from time to time to see if he still has any of the webpages and/or downloads from the site, but I haven't had any success (and I don't know anyone else that has either). Such a pity, because he said some really good stuff there.

I think if you do a search in our forum(s) here you might still find some good posts by MarvL, and some of them will have glphy designs and whatnot. I know that's not much consolation, though.

That's a shame, but what can ya do under the circumstances.

All of his posts I've seen are screenshots and links to his page, no glyphys. I'll be content to look at the other poster's glyphy's then. No big loss.

I was wondering in the block on the above link, how do you place the market in that orientation. No matter how much i tried, i can't fit it with the long side along the road. o_O. Is there something i am missing?

My suggestion is to not place any extra road tiles until you place the market along the one strip of road with the orientation you want. Then after it is set, place the other road tiles to build the block in post #37.

Nimlot Persson forgot the shop stalls. Before placing the Common Market the road network should look like this. The Common Market needs 4 road tiles along its center and the open space before it is placeable.


The three top right spaces can include whatever you want before placing the Common Market. You can continue the road down if you want changing the residential wall into a residential gateway if you want before placing the Common Market(I got lazy with the graphic).
Grand Markets require 6 central road tiles and the extra open space for the 2 extra shop stalls.
