Okay, a few RULES for this thread.
This is meant to be a housing block library so...

Please limit your replies to posting your favorite block with a text description. Please don't reply just to say 'nice block' or to ask how the walker will make it all the way around. If there is an obvious error with a block, please e-mail the poster and let them fix it.

It would be nice to have an uncluttered thread of everyone's blocks without a lot of chatter or discussion.

Nuff said. Any format is great, Glyphy or other picture form.

Two very, very stable and connected housing blocks, ommitting the theater because with a college, a podium, a gymnasium and a working stadium in some other part of town one can get adequate entertainment coverage in order to evolve all houses to townhouses.
Max. population per block is 2340, although one could squeeze in two more plots at the western side of the blocks but this will undermine desirability.
Gardens, gazebos and other disable structures can be added according to the players' taste.

Attached is a service block with two granaries en two warehouses, one for fleece and one for olive oil.

As for elite housing I found this block very satisfying, albeit with an extra gymnasium for added stability to maintain full culture coverage.
20 fully developed estates can support 80 horsemen and it's quite possible to squeeze in another 2 houses to reach 88 horsemen, ommitting some of the symmetrical desirability lay-out. Instead of 2 extra houses I found it very useful to place just one extra estate PLUS Hercules's Hall, since it needs full cultural coverage. Any service buildings can be placed to the eastern part of the block.

The fishponds (or stone cirkels when playing Poseidon) can be easily replaced with large divine statues.

this is an adaptation of one of my favorite poseidon block ( if someone could say me how to make poseidon glyph like in the citadel of poseidon)

1: college outside the block and stadium must work
2: the north road can t be crossed ( or make sure that the shortest way for fountain and hospital is to go through the block)
3: play with symetry to always have the same orientation of the infirmary and fountain
4: you may add a theater using the infirmary loop(theater on the north of infirmary and drama school south for hercule)

this is an adaptation of poseidon block...so i don t really know how many appeal needed (adding a gymnasium)
1: college is outside the block
2: north and south road can t be crossed (or be sure that the shortest way for drama ,infirmary and fountain is to go trough the block)
3:if stadium is active ,you don t need theater and drama

for poseidon block ,you can submit drama school with inventor workshop and put a laboratory instead of theater (having a museum active or adding an observatory using the same loop)

Great-looking blocks, though I wonder about one thing: how do you manage to feed all those people with just one agora? I remember that MarvL had a lot of problems feeding and supplying his people with his really extreme diamond block, and that one 'only' contained 60 houses.

you don t need 4 granary if your food production is near the block.
if the agora is on the east or south there is no problem, but if it is on north or west put the road near agora to reduce the distance for the food vendor .

Yet another SenetEr inspired block. It's meant for Poseidon and therefore the theater is the Observatory, the Elite House is the Laboratory and the Podium is the Bibliotheke. The loop is 52 tiles long (10x18) so all the walkers can make it all the way.

The collumns are Tall Obelisks and the Fish Ponds can be replaced with Baths if you like the look better (i do).

The spare Maintenance Office (dosn't matter wich) is to be replaced by a Watchpost. Alternate if you don't have unrest problems, you can replace it with an extra house to reach 40 houses.

It holds:
2340 people with a watchtower
2400 without watchtower

The Observatory in the corner makes the block a bit ugly to look at, and furthermore you have to be carefull not to link it with an outside road, so you keep your astronomers inside the block. The house in the lower left corner will need an outside road, but it will get supplied from the inside.

I was playing today on Titan difficulty and I created this baby which holds exactly 3000 people fully-evolved. If you build it exactly as shown here, all the buildings will reach their maximum potential. The bottom row is where I placed my granaries, storage yards, and other supply buildings, and I had the stadium built on the top road, turned sideways (parallel with the columns), but I'm sure you could put it anywhere in the city and it would still work.

Here's a modified version which is intended to provide Hoplies, rather than Horsemen, which is why there is an extra food vendor in the top agora, rather than a horse trainer. Again, it's been tested for desirability and requires only two commemorative monuments. Sometimes, though, you have to wait for one townhouse to grow, which then pushes the one next to it to grow too. Hey, whatever works, eh?

This is the housing block I prefer to use for Poseidon Adventures. I couldnt find the glyphy code for the observatory or laboratory so I just used the theatre in place of the observatory since they are the same size and a fish pond in place of the laboratory since they are the same size.
The double block contains 78 townhouses total (39 each) and can support up to 4680 people when fully housed.
This double block can also be mirrored on top of the current one to add additional housing in cities requiring more workers.

This is the basic layout I use for elite housing in Poseidon. The block holds 20 houses that can evolve to estates holding up to 400 people. The 2 additional storehouses are used to hold wheat and wood for the chariot makers and horse ranches.

The housing placement can be modified to accomodate the need for universities in the block to provide curator access after one block contains the museum.

Notes:

  • The theatre is in place of the observatory.
  • The fishpond on the right is in place of the laboratory.
  • The fishpond surrounded by the gardens (lower left side) is in place of the museum.
  • There is no need for so many monuments 3-4 should be sufficient (including the ones in the center) to reach estate level, but since you get them, might as well use them =)

    This is an upgrade of my 35 house block. It holds 45 houses (2700 people). All walkers make the loop except water and healer but they still cover all houses even though they turn around.

    Just a simple variant of SenetEr's common block which adds 2 more houses and with the distribution center shown. I have the avenues set up like this as it generates statues in every corner except where the agora is for added aesthetic appeal. This is my prefered Greek housing block which I use wherever possible. I also tend to stick my palace in up at the upper left of the block, or the upper right, moving the granary, maintenance office and storehouse each 1 square to the left.

    Here's the block I use for when I'm in Atlantis. About the same thing, with some internal switching around to accomodate the sciences. Theater = observatory, podium = biblotheke, elite = laboratory.

    I'm getting a page error trying to view this thread--all the glyphy is coming up as hyperlinks titled [IMAGE], one link for each element. Anyone know how I can fix this, or is it a problem at the source? Thanks in advance for any advice; I'm dying to transcribe the Hercules block on page 1.

    Hi Tawaret. Sorry about the problems. This is a temporary measure that HeavenGames has taken to protect users from a serious security hole in that was recently discovered in Windows XP. As soon as we have a solution, the housing images will return. Until then we ask for your patience.

    Recently an exploit was found out in the wild by a researcher on the Bugtraq mailing list. It involves specially crafted WMF (Windows Meta Fils), which when parsed by Windows XP, causes Windows to execute program code. When it was found by the researcher on the internet, it was presented on a webpage that included a WMF image file in the HTML source code. The file in turn successfully installed a trojan onto a fully-patched Windows XP SP2 system.

    Another researcher on the Bugtraq mailing list has discovered that because windows recognizes files by parsing file headers, the malicious WMF file could be renamed with other image extensions ( i.e. .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.) and Windows will still parse it as a WMF file. Thus, it is possible for a user with malicious intentions to post images to our forums (or to any websites that displays user-submitted images) and cause damage to other forum users.

    Therefore, we will temporarily convert all user-posted images on the forums to links until a patch is released by Microsoft. Since there will always be people who can't / won't update their machines for various reasons (laziness, warezed windows install, they're on dialup, etc.), this temporary measure only helps to stop the initial wave of exploiters and give users a chance to be exposed to news of the problem and a chance to patch their system.

    ya thx for that i thought since i was using a new computer that it was the computers problem that the pictures were not showing up but thanks for telling us.and Tawaret the hercules block is put the college dramaschool in a seperate area and make the ppl have to walk pass the hall the get to there destination at least i think thats close im not sure bout the gym

    This has always worked for me allowing 960 citizens when maxed; as you can see, there is room for expansions from where the granary exists. If one were to follow the similar pattern, 4 efficient housing blocks could be created for a total of 3,840 citizens. In the Sandbox Open Play scenario I created 3 such arrangements and had over 11,000 people with plenty of room for everything else.
    Note: Sometimes the corner Apartments won't evolve to a Townhouse due to appeal. However, if one were to place a monument within the center area, this would be resolved, despite the destruction of a few gardens.

    Well, my first time to post, I hope it works (if not, bad luck ). Anyways, it's my modification of Gus' Elite block, for Poseidon. Trading post is Laboratory, the square of Hedge mazes is the Museum, Theatre is Observatory, etc.
    Only 24 houses instead of 26, BUT with an extra agora for Armor, Horses and Wine for faster distribution.
    I don't think it's a problem to place the Horse Ranches and the Chariot Factory yourself .

    Well I've modified (damn I like modifications ) SenetEr's littl colony block (post 2) into an elite-housing district of 24 houses. Haven't tried it out, though. I'm a bit worried about the appeal of the centered houses, so I hope it works... You surely need more appeal from the outside.

    Heres my block, i havent tested it yet, but ive calculated... It SHOULD be fine with walkers, as long as culture behaves. Top left is North. I havent tried out appeal, but im really hoping the stuff in the middle will suffice, you can replace the hedge mazes with monuments (or just the lower one...), and add appeal to the outside where there is room.

    Personallly, I would put a palace up near the leftern-most roadblock.
    Or you could knock out a house or three to put it underneath the stadium on the main loop. IF it fully evolves, there should be 48 houses yeilding 2880 people. Agian, I have yet to test it, email me with any problems or post on the questions form!
