Hi Daimond

The problem is most certainly caused by Windows 8.1.

Make sure to use the Max installation or you will be sure to get sound related problems.

Besides playing the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP, try also playing it as Administrator.

Hope above is of help to you.

Sorry for the late reply.

If you haven't already found the answer, there are 5 files called ROMEx.WAV (x is a number from 1 to 5). These are located in the wavs folder and contain the various in-game themes

(Just in case, if anybody comes back here for solutions.)

The problem was very annoying for me, because sound it is a part of the game. I mean, it is not only that music changes with context, but also that there is information you can get only by "questioning" citizens. And the looping problem affected all the sounds, not only music.

Seeking through Internet, I discovered this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/impressionsgames/comments/4e3755/caesar_3_music_looping_on_windows_10/

Download IndirectSound.

Yes, I know it's not what IndirectSound says it fixes, but it worked like a charm for me. Had the exact same problem with Windows 10.

So I tried. Surprisingly, it works for me perfectly on Windows 10 64-bit. And it is only a question of dropping a .dll in the main directory.

I've got this issue on Windows 10 as well. It worked OK on Windows 8.

If you put the dsound.dll in the C3 directory as instructed, the game produces an error message asking for another dll. Seems like it will be necessary to play the music files in a background program that has repeat, such as the one that comes with Windows.

Maybe Winamp would be good for playing the background music, it has a small footprint compared to most other (maybe all?) other windows music players. I have Winamp version 5.601 running on Win10 Pro 64-bit.

From what I've found searching online, a missing DLL error in this case is caused by the user's DirectX runtime being outdated. If anyone sees an error after using IndirectSound, try download and install this runtime update:
