My writer's a Plextor PX-708A and the maximum DVD+RW writing speed is 4x. So I popped in one disc, and using Nero Burning Rom, I dragged whatever files I wanted on that disc into the ISO window. I then hit the Write option to start the burning process.
That's where the problem comes. After writing a couple of files in, it terminates the burning process and then throws at me a message saying "The medium in the drive is not empty. Writing to this medium will erase any existing data on it. Do you want to proceed?"
Huh? It's a blank medium. More details. The capacity of the medium is a stated 4.7GB, and I'm only recording in less than 4.5GB of data. I tried writing at both 4x and 2.4x, but there wasn't any difference. Also, the program correctly recognises the medium as a DVD+RW. However, when I check the log file, it always includes a part near the end saying "illegal medium". I figure that's the problem, but I don't know what it means. Any help here? To make sure that it isn't that disc that's causing the problem, I inserted another disc (also a Sony, since I don't have other brands around) and the problem still arises. With both discs, the problems are the same. Sometimes it doesn't even start writing anything onto the medium before throwing me the error. I didn't download any Plextor firmware before that, so I thought that maybe it's outdated. Old version was v1.02. I went to the net and downloaded v1.08. After installing and rebooting my PC, I gave it another go. No difference. I've tried with CD-RW (this time a Verbatim one) before. I have received this error once, but I didn't think much of it because the disc burned fine when I tried again. Non-rewritable discs are all ok, and I haven't had any problems with them so far.
