My comment..is that I'm sort of game purist..changing or altering files hasn't been even a curiousity. That said..I don't think the game programmers like the idea or intended any type of alterations..other than what they themselves might suggest in recognized Mods, addons..game fixes etc.
So it's just my opinion, and over the years here at HG I've never encouraged anyone to hack a game because the game code belongs to it's developer..not the end user. As harmless as it may seem..I feel it's something that isn't discussed..so not to incite others to hack and alter games..or give the appearance we condone such a practice.
My advice is to contact Sierra, or Impressions about this, their response should be conclusive about the items you've inquired about..

I bet you were trying to edit the Pharaoh_Text.txt file that's in the Pharaoh folder when you have Cleopatra installed? That file is, IIRC, a developer's file, and was accidently left in. I think 'csr2text' is a utility they use to convert those files to the (compiled) .eng files you normally see.
In short: you won't be able to run 'csr2text' because noone has that program except Impressions and BreakAway.
