Problems with Demo
I'm wondering if I tripped over a bug in the demo, or if I was overlooking something. I saw the walkthroughs so I know the demo can be completed successfully, but...
I had reached Episode 3, and despite harassment from Hermes I had the Sanctuary 90% complete, including four of the six statues (the game reported that I needed 4 slabs of marble and two statues). I received the bronze and marble I had set aside in the colony, and I was buying and accepting gifts of bronze and marble. I laid out some luxury housing (whatever it's called) and built some weapons shops so that I could create hoplites to go raiding for wine (to be able to summon Hercules).
The sculpture studios stopped producing statues. Each had 1 unit of bronze left, and "insufficient resources." I had a "getting" warehouse of bronze right across the road from the sculpture studios. I didn't change anything (positions of roadblocks, for example), but they never accepted any more bronze. I thought perhaps Hermes had killed off their cartpushers, so I tore those two down and built replacements. No joy; the only difference was that these two studios no longer had one unit on hand.
The weapons shops never accepted bronze in the first place. They were built near the trading post, and I had an "accepting" storehouse for bronze nearby. There was bronze in the trading post, in the accepting storehouse, and in the getting storehouse by the studios. No bronze ever went to the weapons shops. I tried moving roadblocks, emptying warehouses, getting bronze, tearing down and rebuilding the weapons shops, no joy. I was not stockpiling bronze. All of the buildings were fully staffed (with about 16% unemployment). Bronze was duly trundled from trading post to accepting warehouse to getting warehouse. I'd watch cartloads of bronze roll right past the weapons shops and the sculpture studios, but only the warehouses and trading posts received the stuff.
The sculpture studios had accepted bronze and had produced four statues; with no apparent changes this stopped. The weapons shops never worked at all. Finally, I gave up in frustration, leaving me less likely to buy the game (I only discovered Caesar III this year and I've been enjoying it a lot, so now I'm looking at the successors.) Any ideas what I was doing wrong, or did I just hit some sort of bug in the demo?
