Sorry to give you the news but you can't do anything about it except maybe fulfill the requirements before it even happens.

I wasn't able to accomplish that.

Personally, I had built much of my city on the island with a real masterpiece of compact layout and only had some sanctuaries and elite housing on the main land, which didn't get harmed.

Happened to me right after the level started, so I'm not really able to fulfill requests. Anyway, I restarted the adventure just now, with hopes of writing a publishable walkthrough for it, so I'll simply avoid it.........

Eh?

Hello Ares,
no, it can't be avoided. The only thing that can help you is that it probably always hits precisely the same place - I mean not only the place where it starts, but the whole damaged area was precisely of the same shape and size on my map and when ARR played Thebes. Both maps are included in the walkthroughs, so you can compare them with yours... I bet it'll be the same.
You simply have to build in the area that won't be damaged by lava - I was surprised, too, but lucky to escape serious damage, just a few buildings were destroyed.

I had a close shave in my city. It came within one space of destroying my elite housing. You can download my city in the Zeus Download section.

I lost an entire common housing block (fortunately not one that was fully developed), and almost lost my oil industry to boot

I shrugged philosophically, and rebuilt my common housing elsewhere

I heard it was coming from everyone else, so I didn't build near any of the hills, thinking that was where it would originate. Unfortunatly, that meant I built my whole city in between them, where it really started.

Saw it happen, restarted and moved as many things as I could on pause before it happened again. I saved most of my industry, but suffered severe labor shortages (we are talking 700-800 workers). Oh well, thats life

I didnt want to rebuild my entire city so I restarted, and built a massive wall (and I do mean MASSIVE) to slow the lava down. It helped somewhat.
