Monty speaks!

Posted on August 31st, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Another one of those “let someone else do all the typing” updates ;).

You’ve answered my call!! I have more scenarios waiting to post, but for now I’ve put up nine new scenarios in a campaign format. The nine scens are designed by Stringbags, and are posted in the order that they should be played.
Angel Monty’s Monkey

So, sounds like the download page is the place to be.

GHF Summary

Posted on August 30th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

As the title suggests, I thought that I might mark my return to C3H with a quick roundup of what’s going on right now in the Game Help forum.

And, of course, there’s loads of other stuff too. Take a look for yourselves if you don’t believe me;).

I Have a Dream, and it Runs on 600MHz

Posted on August 29th, 1999 by Angel Jayhawk

It’s Dreamtime in the Technical forum, where people are having wishful dreams about their next system, and some people actually managed to acquire their next system recently.

Proconsul Creaticus Dania is having fun with changing the names of anything he can find in Caesar III. If you too are looking for a change in character, have a look here.

The umpteenth installment of “Do I know you?” is still going strong, so if you haven’t told us who you are, you might as well do so now.

Then a plug for a pet project of mine: Names on Maps. This thread is about weird place names, but also about place names that find their origin with foreign conquerors, like the Romans. If you have anything exciting to add, please do.

Mystery of the Disappearing News Page

Posted on August 28th, 1999 by Jayhawk

Okay, I’ll admit it, I guess I forgot to I actually hadn’t uploaded the news page, after answering my last post (of the day <G>) Silly me…
At least I can make this a shortish news flash now, as yesterdays news isn’t quite stale yet.

In the Test forum Crassus Pauper is showing us some nifty ways of (ab)using HTML. In both the Scenario and Review forums Cherub ET is wondering about challenges and reality in the scenarios.

Designed Any Good Scenarios Lately?

Posted on August 27th, 1999 by Angel Jayhawk

Angel Monty’s Monkey has uploaded four new scenarios that can be found here.
Only four, I can hear some of you grumble. Well, he would love to upload many, many more scenarios, but it seems people are not sending them in anymore. So, if you’ve designed a nice scenario and want us to enjoy it too, why not send it to Angel Monty’s Monkey.

Several new people have found their way to the Game Help forum. If you want to share your Caesar III expertise, please give them a helping hand. Claudia Gallica is asking questions about a topic I haven’t seen before: In-efficient Housing blocks.

In the Community forum it’s time for some deep thoughts: What is the Meaning of Life? and some light entertainment: Story Time 3.2 and Tales of Rome 3.

Now I should go back to playing games, but I need to answer one more post.

Almost Asleep on the Keyboard

Posted on August 26th, 1999 by Angel Jayhawk

I was working my way through my angel-mail, no, it’s not raining, and forgot the time. So now someone is wanting me to call it a night and get myself to bed.
Let’s give you a quick forum update before I doze off.

On the Test forum several people are enjoying themselves with images and colours, so if you want to brighten up your posts just mosey on down there.

The Technical forum is suffering from a Mac attack. The question is, can ET handle it?

The Housing Block Discussion has resurfaced on the Game Help forum and several people have been asking for battle tactics on the Community forum.

G’night Reckless. G’night Jayhawk. G’night mouse, G’night Wendoolicus, G’night all

Happy Birthday to Who?

Posted on August 25th, 1999 by Angel Jayhawk

This is hard to get into again, still thinking about what to put up here…anyroad, let’s go to the forums. Want to come along?

First of all there’s a liquid discussion going on the the Community forum, that goes by the misguiding title, Who’s Jack Daniels? (Not talking whisky). Never mind the first couple of posts, but go right here for the drinks bit.

Oh well, let’s get back to the title of this news flash, so who’s the birthday boy (or is it a girl?)
No, it’s a hamster!
Our very own Angel Reckless Rodent is celebrating his twentieth birthday. So, no longer a teen he’s getting ready for the Roaring Twenties.
Want to wish him a happy birthday and tell us who you remember him? Just click here

Webwars VI: Return of the Jayhawk

Posted on August 24th, 1999 by Angel Jayhawk

Read it and weep, or rejoice, but the ‘ Hawk has finally found his way back to the Caesar III Heaven newspage. To cut a long story short, moving had it’s problems and so did a new PC with ISDN connection. Now I can gladly say, this box here zooooooooms!

So what’s going on here?
Let’s check my mail…324 new messages, 200+ of which has directly to do with Heaven. Let’ s wait a while to read up, maybe something for a rainy evening <G>

Keeping up with Reckless, I first want to bring a little bit of Pharaoh Heaven news to your attention. A host of angels, lead by Angel Draco, created Life on the Nile. It’s a trivia script, like the city building facts on this main page, but there are a lot more facts to be found than can be found here. Mine just told me

Horus, the falcon-headed son of Osiris and Isis, is the hero of a legend related to the Osiris myth. The focus of this legend is on a battle between Horus and his uncle Seth for the throne of Egypt. This battle was very intense because Horus also wanted to avenge his father’s murder. Horus eventually defeated Seth and became the ruler of Egypt (the kings of Egypt were considered to be Horus on earth). During the course of the battle, however, Seth tore out and broke Horus’ eye by smashing it on the ground. Another god, Thoth, picked up the eye and restored it. This eye became a very powerful amulet known as the wedjet-eye and is frequently seen in tombs and in jewelry.

My advice, click the above link to go to the main page, and keep on clicking, ’til you’ve seen them all. Of course you have to redo this every couple of weeks, ’cause we just might update our collection of Egyptian facts.

Apart from that there’s quite a few people telling us on the forum they have to go back to school. Well, I can only wish you good luck <G>

All about futures

Posted on August 23rd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

There’s a thread in the forum in which I ask a question which I would appreciate everyone answering (I know that’s a bit hopeful, but it’s worth a try;)). Here’s my post:

Hi everybody.

I was wondering how you think this site should progress. With the release of Pharaoh approaching at an ever increasing rate, it’s clear that attendance here will reduce pretty soon.

It might be increasingly difficult to keep updating the site as regularly as we are at the moment. After all, I’m away in Germany from the last day of September, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to use the phone sockets there with my modem. Angel Jayhawk is heading to the US, once again uncertain of an Internet connection. This leaves AAI in charge of updating 3 sites every day. He’s busier than I was when I had to do the same thing, so 1 site might have to be allowed to lag behind.

From a personal point of view, I wouldn’t like this site just to be deleted because the sequel has come out – it can continue to be a resource for future C3ers. So, what would you expect from this place post-Pharaoh?

So, have you got any thoughts about the future of this site? I’d be interested in hearing them!

All quiet on the Roman front

Posted on August 21st/22nd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

I seem to be having a thing about having the word “front” in the title of my news updates at the moment for some reason. Still, here we are with the weekend update. Oh, by the way, the reason for there only being 1 update this weekend is twofold. On one hand, I’ve been looking around for a new computer (which I bought this morning 🙂 ), and there have also been some problems – check Pharaoh Heaven for an explanation.

Ok, so what’s going on in the C3 community at the moment. I’ll be honest, things are very, very quiet. Whether this is because of the summer holidays (northern hemisphere) or because people are keeping their posting powder dry until the release of Pharaoh, who knows. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks, when Pharaoh hits the shelves.

There are a couple of interesting threads in Reviewers’ Corner at the moment. One asks for the name of a good peaceful map, and a Bob the Lethargic is announcing the release of Portgate – Dere Street Road.

And don’t forget, there are more than just forums here – follow the links on the left to see some more of the site.

Problems on the home front?

Posted on August 20th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Just time for a speedy update again, I’m afraid. Why the odd title? It’s because someone on the Game Help forum has been having problems in Londinium (my home front). Here are the details:

I was wondering where to put these [industrial buildings]. How should I go about balancing pottery for in/and export? I know I’m not the only one stuck in Londinium. So far I started from scratch 4 times. Shouldn’t I build below the small farmland at all? All the ratings are way above needed except the prosperity. Any info would be great, since I don’t wanna win cheating.

If you have any suggestions, post them here. I’m sure all help will be gratefully received.

Pharaoh info just keeps on coming!

Posted on August 19th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Pharaoh is sounding better all the time. Check out Pharaoh Heaven to see why. Also, don’t forget that beta signups will cease tomorrow, so don’t delay!

Ok, I guess you’re probably all sick of me yakking on about Pharaoh Heaven now – I’ve just looked down the page and there have been links to PH in every one of the past 4 news stories. Sorry about that, I’m just eager that people should start looking around there, after all…it’s where all the excitement is going to be in the near future. If Impressions are still shooting for an October release, then I guess that’s when our Caesar III Heaven visitors will start to trickle away to PH (hopefully;)). Remember, however, we won’t be closing this site down for a very long time, though you’ll have to forgive us if the news updates become more sporadic following Pharaoh’s release.

Down to some C3-related stuff now. There was some hope earlier on in the Game Help forum that wolves might not be as bad as they first seem, with the thought that they could be turned against enemies attacking your city. However, I think it’s now been decided that such a move is unfeasible. If you know differently, then let us know!

Pharaoh Heaven has some news!

Posted on August 18th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Just a quick update today, I’m afraid. Pharaoh Heaven has been the place to be for exciting news for the past week or so, and today is no different. I’ve managed to get an exclusive interview with one of the Impressions guys when he’s in London at the beginning of September.

Clearly, I’ll be needing your questions. Head over to Pharaoh Heaven for the details.

Return of a regular

Posted on August 17th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

It seems to be “return of the regulars” this week in the forum. Yesterday we had kaluhiok, and today we’ve got another former regular here returning to the fold. He’s a bit lost right now though, and wants to know what’s been going on recently. If you’re up to it, then please let him know!

Yet more exciting news over at Pharaoh Heaven today too…

One for the number-crunchers

Posted on August 16th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

If you’ve been visiting us for a long time and have spent some time in the forums, then you’ll know that there are quite a few people who love taking a look right inside the workings of C3. A name you might remember who was particularly associated with this was kaluhiok. Well, now he’s back, and as inquisitive as ever.

So, if you like nothing better than number crunching, check out his thread about labour in C3.

Don’t forget, the Pharaoh beta signups are still ongoing. If you’ve already signed up but didn’t read the agreement you signed by clicking on the “I Accept” button at the bottom of the form, then please take a look at what’s happening in Pharaoh Heaven today.

Some site-related changes

Posted on August 15th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

I had a spare hour or so today, so decided to do a bit of general site updating. Here are the main changes:

  • The Caesar III Nobel Prizes forum has gone
  • Angel Abelius has been removed – I haven’t heard anything from him for over a month. His pages will be deleted from the site when our download Angels have put any of his downloads which aren’t currently in the general Caesar III Heaven download section in there.
  • Accordingly, the Abelius’s C3 Page forum has been removed.
  • The test forum has therefore become forum number 7.
  • The archives have been updated with last week’s news.

Aargh! They’re back!

Posted on August 14th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

We thought they were gone for good, but I guess you can never get away from them. Yes, the dreaded market ladies are back…this time making an appearance in the Game Help forum.

Anyway, a query of “how do they work?” resulted in an excellent post by C3.com forum regular Tom the Bold. If you’re still puzzling about how market ladies work, then you couldn’t do much better than to read his post. Here’s an excerpt:

Market Ladies will always seek to replenish the “preferred food” for their housing area. The “preferred food” is the first food type that was provided to the area. It will remain the preferred food until all houses using that food type run out of it. At that point she will go to the nearest granary that has food. This food then becomes the preferred food type that she will seek. This is important because if you have granaries accepting multiple foods, then eventually the granary will run out of room for the “preferred food” as it fills up with less desirable food.

For the rest of his post, and follow-up comments, click here.

Remember, the Pharaoh beta signups are still on, and will be until August 20th. Pharaoh1.com is the place to be! I was able to sign up a few hours ago, so it looks like they’ve sorted out the problem with the non-US postcodes that was plaguing the signup form yesterday evening.

Pharaoh beta test!

Posted on August 14th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Yes, it’s late (or early, depending on how you look at it). Yes, it’s a big headline. But then it’s a pretty big news story. If you missed out on the Age of Kings beta, and the Tzar beta, then all is not lost because you may get a chance of beta-testing Pharaoh!

Head over to Pharaoh Heaven to get the full story.

Apeing around in the download section!

Posted on August 13th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

I love it when I only have to cut and paste to update the news ;).

August 13
With it being Friday the 13th and all, I decided to clean up the Downloads section a little in order to avoid any bad luck in the future. I only put up one new scenario, but I also moved two files from the scenario section, where I had mistakenly put them, to the cities section.

Now that I’ve done this, please send more files!!! My inbox is empty!!!Angel Monty’s Monkey

That all seems pretty self-explanatory. Check out the download section to see what’s new. I also hear that AMM’s added a few reviews for your reading pleasure. Should be worth checking out!

Oh, sorry about the mistake I made yesterday – I uploaded the wrong page to the wrong server, resulting in a brief switch between Caesar III Heaven and Pharaoh Heaven. I’ve given myself a stern talking-to, so it shouldn’t happen again [yeah, right…pull the other one;) – ed].

A bit more news that’ll gladden the hearts of all C3-lovers. Pharaoh looks like it’ll be beta-ing any day now. And that means that you might get to become a beta tester. Head over to Pharaoh Heaven (and stay tuned) for all the latest information.

Time to post, people!

Posted on August 12th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

You can always tell when there’s a bit of a lull in the forums, because Cherub mouse comes to the rescue with a “let’s all introduce ourselves” thread ;).

Also, it seems that we’ve been attracting the more (now, how can I put this without offending some of our readers) “experienced” gamers out there. So, if you’re one of our younger readers, then let us know who you are in the forum!

Seems like poor old Angel Alexander I at HGS Main News needs another shot of strong Colombian coffee. Here’s what he wrote in the “Pharaoh Heaven News” section a couple of days ago:

I have it on good Dark Angel authority that during his two-days’ vacation, RR produced only 40 pages of notes on a topic quite close to this game.

Right, did that sound ok? If it did, then re-read it (I’ve added emphasis to help you find the boo-boo):

I have it on good Dark Angel authority that during his two-days’ vacation, RR produced only 40 pages of notes on a topic quite close to this game.

2 days? Wow, I thought it went quickly. Perhaps 2 weeks would be a better guess next time, eh Alex;)?

Ok, I’ll now hide under the desk lest AAI’s legendary poison pen strikes me down;).

What eclipse?

Posted on August 11th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

The eclipse has been and gone here in the UK. Sadly, cloud cover meant that most people didn’t get a very good view of it, Alderney being the only part of the UK in the path of totality which got anything like a decent view. So, if you got a good view, then tell us about it.

Meanwhile, there’s a debate about the future of the Caesar III Nobel Prizes forum following the departure of Cherub Onoculator and the demise of the C3NPs. Should the forum be closed or renamed – we want your views.

Eclipse fever!

Posted on August 10th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

The Community forum has been struck with eclipse fever! It seems like quite a few of our European visitors will be staring at the sky at 11am tomorrow watching the event. Here’s what Incontinentia will be doing tomorrow:

Unfortunately I can’t get down to Devon, the Point of Totality (the best place for viewing the last celestial phenomenon of the millennium), but we’ll be able to see 96% of it here in London. At 11am I don’t care how much the boss whines, I’m out the door with the rest of the lab crew to watch the Big Event from the courtyard by the Thames.

Does anyone know of any eclipses seen by the Romans – there must have been some. If you’re familiar with that sort of thing, and the sort of reaction it provoked, then let us know in the forum!

Grand Villas and the 2nd type of wine

Posted on August 9th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

I received an email this morning asking about the second type of wine needed to evolve from the Grand Villa. I sent the sender a response, but by mail bounced a few times. Therefore, I’ll post it here and hope Soren’s reading this.

To get a “second type of wine” you need to import the stuff as well as
produce it in your city. Therefore, there are some scenarios where you
can’t get beyong Grand Villa.

If you do it right, you can limit wine to 1 warehouse only, in your villa \\
would-be-palace district, and then massively overproduce wine. Then, when
the warehouse is full and there’s wine in the workshops, start importing it.
Although there will be no space for it, your housing will think they’re
drinking it, and will evolve.

Hope that helps.

Return of the Reck

Posted on August 8th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

I wasn’t going to post any news anywhere today – only got back home a few hours ago – but I saw that poor Angel Alexander I was being swamped with news duties so decided to step in;).

Sad news today – Cherub Onoculator is no more. Here’s what he had to say in the forum:

If you haven’t already guessed it, my site “Dave’s Caesar III Downloads”, hasn’t been updated in a long time. What i’m trying to say is that it won’t be updating anymore. Some of you who have been playing longer than I have might understand where i’m comming from. Caesar 3 is a great game but as any other game it reaches a limit where you get bored of it and only want to play it a couple times a year . I know I could keep updating my site even though I don’t play C3 but the thing is that I have uninstalled it since it was taking a valuable 550-600 Mgb of space out of my 2Gig HD. So with the game uninstalled I can’t look at new cities or scenarios and theregfore cannot rate them like I did with all the others. The site will still be there for those of you who want to drop by and take some old scenarios for an other try. Fortunecity (the site provider) puts it’s ads after a week of no uploading so don’t worry about slow loading, the site still works as usual. It’s been great to have met all you people and I thank you for all of your support. You are what made the 10000+ hits on the counter possible, and most importantly… there would be no downloads if you all hadn’t been sending them in.This also means there will be no C3NP’s, sorry . Thank you very much. And Adieu.

I’ll close the C3NP Forum in a little while.

More Downloads

Posted on August 6th, 1999 by Angel Alexander I

Just in case any of you are worried, Angel Jayhawk has not flown the coop. He is still in the midst of moving house. However, in between shifting boxes and moving quarter ton furniture he can on occasion be spotted posting in the forums (gothca)! Be sure not to sprain your typing fingers now JJ, we really need them. 🙂

Now, not to be outdone by MM, Angel Draco (remember him? :-)) has slammed another two scenarios and two reviews straight into the downloads section and he promises that there is more to come. Angel D as you may remember, recently graduated from law school, passed the bar, started at a new law firm and….there was something else time consuming…oh yes, he got married too. How does he do it? My theory is that he can live in the fourth dimension where time is a rather pliant concept thus enabling him to engage in time-defying updating like the above. Thanks AD!

More Downloads

Posted on August 4th/5th, 1999 by Angel Alexander I

Angel Monty’s Monkey informs me that with his latest additions the grand total of downloads now extends to 165 scenarios! You won’t find a finer, bigger selection anywhere else folks so chow down!

Missing Angel? Naaah!

Posted on August 2nd/3rd, 1999 by Angel Alexander I

Hiya folks, it’s old Angel Alexander I here taking up the slack of those slackers AJ and ARR. 🙂 Actually, to be just a tad more fair to them I should mention that Angel Reckless Rodent is enjoying a well-deserved break at an undisclosed location somewhere in the Caribbean! Well, ok, just as long as he tells us interesting stories when he gets back, right? Recky has of course devoted a great deal of time to this site but to three others as well, largely in his capacity as news-supplier general in which capacity he is surpassed by no one in the known universe. Jayster blew into Angelship from the bottom line and has proved a great asset as well. He is currently setting up his new home and has conveniently pulled the power cable out of it junction box for closer inspection. Sorry, just the way developers are. 🙂 Actually he too has put in well-received appearances in at least two sites and, although he deserves a break I’m afraid moving house will not help him much in that area. Good luck to you both, Dream Team Dudes!

CIII H has just passed a milestone by the way: the 250.000th. visitor has come to this imperial site. I you have a dump of the counter reading 250.000, please send it in (I should know better than this because someone will just doctor it). Congratulations to all the staff at CIIIH for achieving that important figure of a quarter of a million!

Lastly, rush over to our Majesty site for a planet exclusive, E3-based, Angel SpineMan driven preview of this very promising game.
