Good news for our Mac visitors!

Posted on April 30th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Here’s the news that out Mac-based visitors have been waiting for for a very looooong time. I heard today that the Mac version of the C3 demo will “finalize” (Impressions’s word, not mine) next week. So, you can expect he demo to appear within the next month or so. Also, I’ve received the minimum system requirements for C3 for the Mac. Here they are:

100 MHz PowerPC 601 processor
32 MB RAM
OS 7.6.1 or higher
4x CD-ROM Drive
150 MB hard drive space
SVGA monitor capable of 16-bit color

Recommended:
iMac

While we’re on the subject of Impressions, why not check out our coverage of Impressions @ E3 over at Pharaoh Heaven. It’s not brimming with stuff at the moment, but it’ll give you the basics about what and where E3 is. So, if you’re interested, pop over here.

A couple of other C3-related news tidbits today. First up is the news that Angel Monty’s Monkey has added two more reviews to the downloads section. Remember, he’s always on the lookout for more scens and reviews, so if you’ve got some, please send them to him post haste! Last but by no means least is that The Ancient One has made a C3 desktop theme! So, if you want to get hold of that, do so here.

Pharaoh Heaven gets a new look!

Posted on April 29th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Yes! The new look for Pharaoh Heaven is finally here, thanks to the one and only Angel Hamlet! That rather sexy little pic on the left it part of the main page…but which part? You’ll have to head over to Pharaoh Heaven in order to find out! And what do you know? The new look is all up and running just in time for E3:).

The clouds are getting heavy!

Posted on April 28th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

The Caesar III Heaven palace (and yes, we are getting 2 types of wine;)) is 1 staff member fuller today. So, who’s the lucky lad? Well, forum regulars will know him – he’s none other than Baltic…erm…sorry, Cherub Baltic! Welcome to the site, CB! Please take some time out to pop over to the forum and congratulate him:).

Monty’s Monkey’s been busy again – he’s put up another 3 reviews in addition to the one while he added yesterday. Keep up the good work in the downloads section, MM! If you want to help keep him on his toes, then send him your scenarios and reviews.

Change in the C3NP Committee

Posted on April 27th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Cherub Onoculator informed me today that the Caesar III Nobel Prize Committee has a new member! Anyone familiar with the forum over at c3.com will recognise the name, as will anyone who has downloaded the Caesar III Screensaver. Yup, The Ancient One is now on board and helping to judge the winners of the C3NP.

In the forum, Baltic has been collating all the tips which people have given out over the past few months which would be useful if you wanted to improve the look of your posts. Actually, it’s a pretty good introduction to basic HTML, and would certainly be worth a look even if you’re not intendng to post in the forum. Check it out here.

There’s also a few signs of movement inthe downloads section today. Angel Monty’s Monkey put a review up earlier today, and he tells me that he’ll add a few more later on. Also, I have heard from Dark Angel (expanding his/her activities from HGS Main over here to C3H) that Angel Draco might be adding some more cities at some point in the very near future. So, perhaps expect a news item about that tomorrow? We’ll have to see, eh;)?

C3.com prizepack won!

Posted on April 25th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Yup, it’s true. Sorry to dishearten you all, but the prizepack that was up for grabs on c3.com has been won. But never fear – it hasn’t been picked up by some nameless chappy. In fact, the lucky person was one of our Caesar III Heaven forum regulars, Sir Dumbicus! And there’s also some good news in this respect for our very own Cherub Onoculator! Read all about it and congratulate them both here.

On the subject of milestones, I noticed this morning when I logged on that we had hit our latest milestone, that of 200,000 visitors (I was no. 200,008)! On behalf of all the Angels and Cherubs who work here or have ever worked here, may I take this opportunity to thank all of you, the visitors and loyal fans, who have helped to make this site the biggest and best C3-related fansite on the whole Internet. Without your visits and submissions, we are nothing. Thank you very much, and long may our fruitful association continue!

A special message to Octavion, one of the members of the C3NP Committee here. Cherub Onoculator wants to talk to you urgently about the C3NPs. Get the full story here (and hurry up – he doesn’t sound too impressed!)

What’s MM on!?

Posted on April 24th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Angel Monty’s Monkey has really put his nose to the grindstone recently. Yesterday, as well as the 4 scenaros I mentioned, he also put up another 8!! Twelve in a day! Wow, that must be some sort of a record! Great going, MM – keep it up:). Of course, all that updating probably means his inbox is a little empty right now, so why not send him your scenarios so that he’s not too bored;)?

Abelius has now settled in with his new-found angelic status. In fact, I hear that he’s learned to fold his wings when going through doorways so he doesn’t bang them against the doorframes;). Today, he’s changed the question on his site. It now asks who the most popular Roman Emperor was. So, if you think you know, head over to Abelius’s C3 page and let us all know!

Over at Pharaoh Heaven, there’s a very special anouncement being made. However, it’s not being made on the news page owing to the imminent appearance of the funky new look (courtesy of Angel Hamlet). So, instead, pop over here to the PH forum to find out what it is!

What you can win on c3.com

Posted on April 23rd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

It’s unusual of me to do more than 1 update per day, but I thought you might like to know what you’ll win if you’re the 500,000th visitor to Caesar3.com (the official C3 site):

“The winner will receive a library of Impressions Games: Civil War Generals 2, Lords of Magic: Special Edition and Pharaoh (once it’s released). Keep visiting the web site — you never know when fortune may smile upon you.”

I’m there already!

C3 nominated for an award!

Posted on April 23rd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Congratulations on a massive scale go out to Sierra and Impressions today. Why? Well, Caesar III has been nominated for the Best Strategy Game of the Year award, to be presented at E3 in mid-May in Los Angeles. Find out all the details here.

But Sierra and Impressions are not the only people who should be celebrating today – Mac users should also be cheered by the news that the production of the Mac version of C3. The latest news is that the demo version will be ready in June, with the final version to follow in July. Impressions seem pretty confident of making this deadline, according to this site.

They say it never rains, but it pours…Well, this is certainly true of the news items that have been pouring in to me to be announced in today’s news. A couple of areas of Caesar III Heaven have been updated recently – Cherub Desert Rider has updated the Gallery with some great new stuff, and Angel Monty’s Monkey has added another 4 scenaros to the download section.

What!? Surely there can’t be yet more news!? Well, there sure is more stuff to mention today, namely that there’s been some new stuff added to the forums by His Lordship himself, Angel Mack. There are a couple of new smileys and a brand new UBB tag for y’all to play with. Here are the details:

A smiley with tongue sticking out () – press : and p

A puzzled smiley () – press : and {

New UBB tag – [ICQ]your#here[/ICQ] to show your ICQ status

Enjoy the new smilies and UBB tag! Who knows? Maybe Mack will come up with some more in the future:).

Welcome a new Angel!

Posted on April 22nd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Today is a great day in the history of Caesar III Heaven! Many of you will have visited Cherub Abelius’s Caesar III page, which contains tons of great stuff as well as being the place to go to in order to get the latest official pronouncements on the upcoming Caesar III Olympics. Well, now you’ll be able to go there without ever leaving HGS! So, change your bookmarks from the old address to this one:). There’s also a link to his pages just under the Caesar III Heaven logo.

In keeping with this move, the aforementioned Abelius has grown his wings that little bit more, as he has attained the status of Angel! Everyone please welcome Angel Abelius!

Getting Historical

Posted on April 21st, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Ever wondered what Roman boats really looked like? Well, over the next few weeks or so, you might get the chance to find out. Why? Because some Roman boats have been discovered in the mud of the old harbour of Pisa, according to today’s Times here in the UK. If I hear anything more about this, then I’ll let you know.

At the end of the report in the paper, there was a list of Internet links related to this finding…here they are – enjoy them!
British School at Rome’s fieldwork and archaeological projects
The French Culture Ministry’s Mediterranean shipwrecks sites
University of Bangor lecture notes on ancient Roman ships
Lake Niemi Roman ship re-construction project
The Institute of Nautical Archaeology’s virtual museum

Also today, if we’re keeping to the historical note, then I think I should perhaps let you know that today is the traditional date for the foundation of Rome in 753BC.

On a more game-related note, I know I’m a bit late with this one, but I’m not aware that anyone has won yet…As we approach our 200,000th visitor, the official Caesar III site is nearing its 500,000th visitor! Wow, quite an achievement there, Impressions – congratulations! They’re celebrating this by giving out a prize pack to the lucky person who is the 500,000th visitor. It’s a mystery as to what is included, but it promises to be something real special. So, head over there and win!

Want to ask Impressions something?

Posted on April 20th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Well, I must say that I am most disappointed:(. Hardly anyone has headed over to Pharaoh Heaven and notified us if any questions which they would like to be posed to Impressions at E3 (in the likely event that the Angels there get the chance so to do). Just kidding, guys and gals…however, the questions can come in until May 8th, when I need to collate them and fire them off to the Angels who will be attending E3 this year. What do you have to do in order to ask Impressions about either Caesar III or Pharaoh? It’s pretty simple really – all you have to do is head over to Pharaoh Heaven and you’ll get all the instructions there.

There’s also a brand new GS contest up today – find out about it by following the link here.

Help for our AOL visitors

Posted on April 19th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

My statistics suggest that loads of our visitors use AOL. If you are one of these people and are finding that the pic on the left is somewhat blurred, then fear not, as I have found a cure. What you need to do is get rid of AOL’s ART compression. Don’t know how to do that? Well, you can find out here.

News from the Onoculator!

Posted on April 17th/18th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Cherub Onoculator is on the lookout for another committee member for deciding the winners of the Caesar III Nobel Prizes. Here’s what he had to say in the forum:

Ok, I think most of the committee agrees that 10 is a good place to be a limit on the number of members….Now we currently have 9 members and we are looking for one more…
If anyone is interested…please post here and the committee will discuss it…if there is more than one person that wants to take part…the committee will hold a vote…if you are not chosen..It is not because we don’t like you, or we think you aren’t a good Caesar fan or anything it’s just that we have to make a decision ok? So no hard feelings to the one’s that don’t make it. And think of it this way..if a committee member quits you ppl that didn’t make it will be first on the list ok?

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to be part of the C3NP Committee, then either let Cherub Onoculator know by email or by posting in the C3NP forum.

The General Help, Wishes and Comments Forum went wrong at some point today, probably when 2 people tried to post at the same time. As a result, the latest story thread was deleted by accident. There are Angels working as I write to see if they can recover the lost/dead thread. Thanks for your patience while we sort this wee problem out.

Abelius digs out a real gem!

Posted on April 16th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Cherub Abelius has been real busy in the Caesar III Heaven forums in his continuing efforts to help those in need. This time, though, he’s really surpassed himself in digging out a fantastic post from a while ago giving 10 tips to live by in C3. Here are the first couple:

1. Wells are for peeing in, not drinking out of. Use wells as an absolute last resort to provide water. Houses supplied with well water will not advance to casa’s or any other housing level and thus drag down your prosperity. This leads to high crime areas, high fire risk area, and you having 1/2 your population in the service of the local prefectures. In general, try to avoid using wells.

2. Tent cities are bad. For all of the reasons associated with using wells. Eventually your people will get fed up with living in tents and either leave or riot. Additionally tents drag down the desirability of a location, provide little or no revenue, and decrease your prosperity rating. Generally in order to reach your culture ratings your going to have to provide schools etc.. so you might as well get the benefits of casa while your at it. Use tent cities as a last resort.

Who are our visitors?

Posted on April 15th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

That’s what Cherub mouse is wondering about in the General Help, Wishes and Comments Forum. So, if you’ve been visiting for a while or have just got here and haven’t registered in the aforementioned forum yet, then head over here and do so! Then, you can tell us all about you;).

If you’re still having problems with C3 and just can’t seem to finish quickly, then there are some useful tips for you all in the forum too.

The Olympics are building up a fantastic head of steam. Here’s a list of the countries that are currently involved:

  • Argentina
  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Canada
  • China
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • South Africa
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom
  • United States (x5)
  • Venezuela

But you don’t have to be from one of those countries to take part – if you fancy playing alongside the world’s best, then sign up and have a go!

Another milestone on the way!

Posted on April 14th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Caesar is getting ready to proclaim an Empire-wide holiday! Get the bunting out! Prepare the street parties! Caesar III Heaven is nearing yet another milestone. In a couple of weeks time, barring any major disasters, we will reach 200,000 visitors to this page! Thanks to everyone who visits regularly – you’ve helped to make this site the number one Caesar III fansite (now I can call it “award winningbiggrin.gif (135 bytes))

Well, on the aforementioned award-winning site today, there’s a survey being done by Cherub Abelius in the Website Comments forum asking how you first found your way to C3H. Check it out and post your thoughts here.

Not more South Park!?

Posted on April 13th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

You just can’t keep a good Cartman down, can you? After his hit appearance yesterday, he makes a welcome return today with the news that Angel Draco has fixed the links in the download section and added the rest of the wavs to the selection there. So, if you’ve got any other wavs which would go well with C3, then let him know and he’ll put them on the site.

Oh no, they killed Caesar!

Posted on April 12th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

What’s Cartman from South Park looking surprised about? Well, he’s just discovered whilst surfing his favourite Caesar III site that some South Park .wavs have found their way into the download section. So, if you want your priests to tell you that they’ve killed Kenny rather than moaning about the lack of workers in your city, then now you can thanks to Angel Draco:). Oh, and there are 3 cool new cities there today too.

Been to Tzar Heaven lately? If not, then make that your next port of call. Quite literally, as it happens, because Angel Hamlet has put up some cool pics from the latest build of the game which show the process of constructing a harbour, along with a load of other fantastically cool stuff.

Also new today is a rather neat new contest from our hosts, Gamestats. Find out all about it in the GS Box!

A Nobel Undertaking

Posted on April 10th/11th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Well, where will all this end? In the wake of the phenomenal success of the Caesar III Olympics, which now has too many countries involved to list them all, Cherub Onoculator has come up with another cool idea. How about the Caesar III Nobel prizes? Here are a couple of things that he’s posted in the forum about it:

*The committee will include 5 ppl: which are yet to be chosen or announced. All I can say is that I am part of it and that I have already some ppl in mind. I am still looking for a 5th person but you have to understand that if you become a member you cannot participate and you will have duties and responsabilities. If you cannot fulfill your position someone else will. Sorry if that sounds harsh but that’s the way the world turns.

*If anyone seriously wants to be part of it send me an email with a little couple of reasons why you think you should be part of the committee. I will ask other committe members and let the person who qualifies know asap.

If you like the sound of that, then you can get all the information here.

Computer talk

Posted on April 9th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

In the forum, there’s a cool discussion about computers initiated by Cherub Et Flavius. Here’s a couple of extracts:

Cherub Et Flavius
My goal is to enhance this site as much as I can in this area of tech support, plus game support. As a composite group we have always met the challenge, getting C3 up and running, solved conflicts, etc.
Your information will helpful and appreciated, also any suggestions that may build on this endeavor. Heaven Gaming Site should be the icon site for information about games they “support”, this can be accomplished.

Baltic
Cyrix 6×86 MMX 200
32 MB RAM
2,1 GB HDD, 2 partitions (C: & D:,approx. 1/2 each), Caesar installed on D:
16x speed CD-ROM as E:
Virge 3D with 4 MB memory
cheap Yamaha emulating SB Pro
15” ADI monitor (soon to be replaced with 17”)
no modem, no network card (soon Ethernet will be installed, I plan to connect it with our other computer so that I can play Heroes of M&M and Warcraft with my son )
running Win95, Czech version.

Bob the Lethargic
My current system is a Pentium II 300 Mhz, 6.4 GB Hard drive partitioned to C D & E, a 24 speed CD ROM, a Zip Drive and a 17 inch monitor with an HP Deskjet printer and Alt Lansing Speaker system with sub-woofer. And believe it or not my wifeagreed to me buying all the bells and whistles when I upgraded.

Cherub Abelius
I am using a Pentium MMX 266MHz with 32 MB Ram, and two physical hard drives (C: and D of 2 MB each; so the Windows sub-directory is in C: and the CD-Rom drive is E:. Don’t ask me about graphic card and stuff like that, because as you know, I am not a tech-guru… lol…

The guys over at Tzar Heaven have put a poll up asking what makes you return to a gaming site. Now this may be on Tzar Heaven, but the information they glean from it pertains to all the sites here at Heaven’s Gaming Sites, including this one. So, head over there and vote so that we all know what you want to see here:)!

Is that Tarzan or a Monty’s Monkey?

Posted on April 8th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Oi, you! Regular Caesar III player and Caesar III Heaven visitor! Have you submitted any cities or scenarios to the boys in the download section recently? I ask because both Draco and MM are depressed at how empty their inboxes are. Come on people, let’s really weigh them down with loads of great stuff;). Scenarios and reviews to Angel Monty’s Monkey, and cities to Angel Draco!

However, there is another way to get reviews up at Caesar III Heaven. If you’ve played a user-created scenario recently and though it was either fantastic or awful, then let us know in Reviewers Corner in the forums – just follow the link on the left! Here’s what MM had to say:

Actually, this area may go a step beyond being just a neat review communications area for everyone. Due to the relatively large number of submissions still waiting for review, and the fact that we just can’t keep up with reviewing all of them, please feel free to post any of your own reviews and thoughts in this area.

I will constantly monitor this corner of the Forums, and if you post a review, or ideas that could be used in a review, I may well pirate your comments for use in the official review page. Also, if you play a scenario and want to post a review to me directly, please feel free to send it to my mail address. However, if you want to do this, please try to use the review format and guidelines found on the downloads page.

Is that Tarzan or a Monty’s Monkey?

Posted on April 7th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Angel Monty’s Monkey has harnessed up his trusty pachyderms and crossed the Alps in order to bring you the latest and best user-created scenarios. This time, there are another 10 for you to check out in the download section. Hmm…it might not be too long until the scenario section numerically surpasses the cities section. We’ll have to see, eh?

On a different note, you will all be pleased to hear that I chatted to Angel Alexander I on ICQ for an hour or so last night. Why is that so important? Well, it means that he’s gradually sorting out his connection at his latest residence. He told me that it was somewhat ropey, but at least he’s getting there:).

Having problems with Caesar?

Posted on April 6th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Are you spending more time rowing a galley in the Mediterranean than governing your city? Do Caesar’s legions spend more time besieging your city than expanding the borders of the Empire? Does that demand for 20 oil send you over the edge? Well, if you’re having serious problems with appeasing Caesar, then look no further than in our forum. At the moment, there’s a very interesting discussion about how to appease His Drunken Imperial Majesty in the best and least painful way possible. Check it out here.

Do you have a winning strategy that you want to tell everyone about? If so, I want to hear about it! Find out why here.

The boy is back in town!

Posted on April 5th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

Why are these chaps here celebrating? Well, Angel Draco has flown back into town! Following his trip to DC a couple of weeks back, he needed a couple of weeks to recuperate;). However, he’s now fully recovered and is ready for yes more action in the download area. For starters, as a bit of an Easter present, he’s uploaded 6 lurvely new cities. 1 of them is a rather cool city with 30,000 citizens! So, could this be the start of yet another unofficial little contest? Can anyone else out there beat 30k inhabitants? If so, save the city and fire it off to Angel Draco and it’ll be posted asap!

If you’re still recovering from the effects of all those easter eggs, yet fancy a new challenge in life, why not apply for a job with our venerable hosts, GameStats. Get the info about that and another contest in the GS box at the bottom of the page.

Multiple invasions

Posted on April 3rd/4th, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

It was a couple of weeks ago that Impressions released the latest “Easter Egg” to be found in the game, namely that which creates invasions whenever you want them. For those of you who have forgotten how to do this or who didn’t know about it before, here’s how you do it

Build a well, right click on the well, hit Alt-K. Then select the help key on the well right click panel, and hit Alt-K in that panel. After closing the help panels you’ll be invaded.

Theoretically, that means that you can be invaded by several armies at the same time. In the forum, there has been an interesting discussions about the implications of this feature. Check it out here.

What’s your fave bit of Caesar III?

Posted on April 2nd, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

That’s the question being asked in the Caesar III Heaven forum today. Here’s what a few of the forumers have had to say so far…

For me, it’s definitely the natives’ names. I especially like Kenneth the Fastidious and Long Fu the Mysterious.

*) The game as a whole, is playable. There will be no misteries, which you can’t solve “without being a way around it”, like in many role-playing games… This game is winnable [and losable] in so many different ways…!!!

So, if you’ve got something to add to all that, then do so here!

Also today, I bring news of a brand new Story in the Stories Section:). This one is entitled “There Goes the Neighbourhood” and is by Ozan Efe Ertem.

Forum stuff

Posted on April 1st, 1999 by Angel Reckless Rodent

The preparations for the Caesar III Olympics are continuing apace. If you haven’t yet signed up, then follow the link over on the left to the forum. Then, head over to the Caesar III Olympics forum and post saying that you want to participate. You will also need to check out the rules, which you can find here. If you’ve got any more ideas, then let Cherub Abelius or Cherub Dragon2 know and they’ll see what they can do about it.
