Barbarian Formations
Barbarian armies use three formations when they deploy onto the board from the invasion point. The same barbarian type will always use the same formation. Note: Obstructions or immediate attacks will disrupt the formations and make it very hard to identify what the army intended. This can work in the players favor.
Wide Front
Applies to: Etruscans, Samnites, Seleucids, Pergamum, Iberians and Judeans
8 men wide - 2 men deep for both unit types. All of these barbarians use Men at Arms for first type and Spear men for second type.

Irregular MOB
Applies to: Gauls, Helvetii, Picts, Celts, Britons, Goth, Visigoths and Nubians
16 men in an irregular 'star' pattern, for both unit types. Different solder types are used for first and second units by these armies.
Squares
Applies to: Carthaginians and Egyptians
16 men in an open 4 x 4 square for the first unit type. There is an open point between all men. Because allocation of auxiliary solders is low with these barbarians, maximum loading of first type troops occurs early and becomes significant inside the open squares.
