Prosperity rating: 100

Minimap:
After reading that Senseisan has build a Career Capua of over 6,000 population, I decided to try my hand at one better. My original goal was 100 households of either Grand Insula or Large Villa, trying wherever possible to avoid merely Large Insula, and 100 Culture and Prosperity, wile using the 60 favor requirement as a "control." Here I submit to you my attempt.

The conventional wisdom is that 10k in Capua is possible if you only have Large Insula to cut down on fruit farms and add extra space. Here I show that isn't entirely true. I think that if I had dropped the 100 Culture requirement I could have fit some more houses in those places wile putting farms where some of the insula now on the farmland are and probably squeezed in 10k of two-food-eating folks. However I think this attempt is nearly as good.

I limited this Capua to under 9,500 population because I had food for 9,600 and only enough culture venues (mostly theaters, schools and libraries) for around that number, so no sense in endangering my 100 Culture rating and fairly stable housing level (some houses in the farmland seemed to devolve occasionally from lack of furniture, but all others were rock-solid GIs).

The game is saved in Sep 334 BC, year 17, and there are by my reckoning 91 Grand Insulas and 16 Large Villas. The city is no longer exporting anything due to the large tax hall from GIs and LVs and city coffers, in the past at times a bit in danger of emptying, now stands at 60,185 dn. The city is importing marble (for its insatiable appetite for oracles), wine and furniture, where for some reason has had in the past quite a bit lower inventory than pottery and oil, for reasons never explainable (i.e. ~14 when pots/oil were perhaps 24). Food levels are low and granaries not very full, but nobody seems in danger of hunger. I have used nearly all available space on the map that is reachable by a market lady within a reasonable distance of the city's granaries and warehouses.

To win the mission simply dispatch two lavish gifts to Caesar.

Guyus Edwardus I loved the 'Capuan Broadway' you've got by the river. Just a question - you seem to have identified Venus as your city's 'patron' God, what was the reasoning behind building so many temples for her?

Three reasons I guess:

1. This being one of the only truely "peaceful" mission in which there is absolutely no military element to the city's design (besides Tarraco) I suppose the idea of the "goddess of love and harmony" came to mind.

2. Julius Cesar's family's patron god was Venus and he supposedly claimed some kind of descent from her, which was part of his political appeal which enabled him to rise to power. So since I want to be Caesar in the game, why not appeal to her? ;-)

3. I first build one temple to each god in the industrial area (where the "Broadway," as you say, is now) and Venus was the first to be deleted to put a temple in the residential areas. From there I simply kept replicating Venus temples everywhere. So it was an accident really.

Next time I try the "monotheism" trick I will do it with another god though to keep things interesting.
Senseisan Very smart setting . If you want to increase population to 10 K, you can afford a pack of only watered tents here and there ( computed prosperity is near 128 so 33 2x2 tents add 924 guys and keep prosp=100 )
Eswen You have a great city there! :)

"The conventional wisdom is that 10k in Capua is possible if you only have Large Insula to cut down on fruit farms and add extra space."

Not exactly true, a recent attempt of mine, was utilizing both wheat and fruit farms and reached 10k population (several villas + GI, a bit of LI here and there because of desireability). The 100 culture requirement is what could, and in my opinion should be relaxed for larger populations.

Bandeex Hi!
