Aregran
Caesar wants a new central city, medium size, a few tributes will be requested, some trading will help you build the city, a few invasions can help you ruin the city, but good management should save the day.
Hi, I'm Sir_Vet Caeser III was a favorite game when it came out, I moved on to the Stronghold series and created many maps for people to play. I loaded Caesar III again and went into the Heaven games site and found the map editor and created this map, in testing I had to restart 3 times to keep Caeser at bay but after my conventional city was under way things ran fairly smooth.
So I give you Aregran, I hope you enjoy the map, it should be playable for all levels of experience, I tested on hard.
Enjoy

Playability: 4
The gameplay was very nice, giving me a pleasure.
Balance: 1
The map is far too easy, there was no big challenge at all.
Creativity: 4
This map includes some unusual ideas and it makes fun to face them.
Map Design: 4
Can't say any bad word about it.
Story/Instructions: 2
Not much of these, although its not so important for me.
Additional Comments:
Overall feeling is quite positive. This map is too easy though. The only big problem I had to face were 4 emperor legions coming to my doors. All other battles were short and simple, enemies coudn't even destroy my walls.
For achieving the desired population I used both main food sources: the one on the east side and the one on the west side. It wasn't a big problem to send food between those 2 quite distant places. I managed to achieve grand insulae almost everywhere and even a one luxury palace. A small problem was to transport pottery to the west side of my city, but 3 warehouses with appriopriate orders solved the case. |

Very playable, very enjoyable, there is also replay value for this map. There are different strategies which could be employed to win the game.
Balance: 4
Not very hard, but still the map is marked as normal, so it's (very little bit) above normal. Still there could have been some price changes to make it harder, or even troops requests. Overall of good balance. More or less the military part is trivial, I didn't construct any walls or towers, but Caesar 3 is more of an economic simulation, than a military strategy.
Creativity: 3
It is more or less standard. The canyon is not a bad idea, but the only spot for access to the west is a bottleneck for the invasion spot. (At least when I played the map, up until the end, it was only one invasion spot)
Map Design: 3
It is not bad, actually looks quite realistic, but ... the single invasion spot can be bottlenecked if one places the city only to the east. It can be done relatively easy. Then the whole west part is not used at all in practice, and there is a nice spot to meet the Gauls. But I didn't take a point here for that weakness, because not all players would decide to do it that way, and it is not so big of a deal anyway; just pointing out.
Story/Instructions: 1
Really disappointed about missing story. Okay there is 2 sentences for instructions, but it could have been a lot better. It's really nice to read some story, to introduce you to the game. Be creative, make up something, a tale or something. The way it is now the instructions stay a bit dry and unappealing.
Additional Comments:
Really nice map, a bit of miss here and there, mostly the instructions, but otherwise a real pleasure to play. I've submitted my savegame after finish, to illustrate the weakness in the single pass, and single invasion point. |
