This collection is meant for people who once in a while still want to play the old Caesar2 game, but don't want to play a full campaign in order to reach their coveted province.
It's probable that even longtime players haven't been able to play all of them, just because the competing governor "Pompous Maximus" always randomly takes his pick from the bunch, denying access to half the lot.
All saves start with adequate money and nothing built by me. Enjoy. |

If somebody spots a missing province, please tell me here and I will try adding it to the collection.
NB for obvious reasons I didn't add the 4 first provinces(Cisalpine Gaul, Campania, Illiricum and Sardinia&Corsica)
I did add another one though, Latium (the real starter and bit of a secret).[Edited on 01/08/08 @ 02:09 PM]

Comments please. I kept this set for many years and could easily make another if anyone has a special request that makes sense. These are made in impossible level because that makes every province possible. I could do another set with more or less starting money to add another difficulty or whatever your fancy. Just comment! |

Hello, maybe you aren't around anymore but I created this account just to say: thank you. Thank you for making this available! the small amount of starting money is making it hard but I'm glad to be able to choose any province I like, I was disappointed when I finished the game for the first time. To be short: thanks! |

Thanky you for making these available for download.
I tried to play the exterior provinces on impossible diffuclty on the GOG version as well as the Windows 95 version, and the DOS version on an old CD and the game just cut to the victoty movie when there were no more normal provinces available.
Do you by any chance remember how you were able to unlock the exterior provinces on impossible difficulty? |

Well, just by playing and saving regularly just before any promotion. That way you can choose another province to your liking as long as there are multiple provinces left to choose from by reloading those saves again. You only can get to all of them in Impossible mode if you keep in mind that the other general captures one every turn too so you have to do several runs of the whole impossible career if you like to try them all. If you look at the creation date of the files you see it was all a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, after the normal provinces were done and the victory screen came up you could play on in the rest of exteriors without the competition of the other general Pompous Maximus, don't know for sure why you can't do that now, only likely explanation I can think of is that you have to avoid that Pompous Maximus blocks your entry to the exterior by capturing the adjacent normal provinces before he does. Yeah, I remember now, it had to do with what he could capture and your last province taken before victory was of some importance too, the reloading of saves before victory could then help to manipulate the outcome of Pompous Maximus' choices because the game generated those randomly and that did the trick for me.
I seem to remember that playing the Latium province as an opener gave a little bit more slack to reach easier access to the exteriors too.
It took me a long time to cover them all that way but I didn't mind. I haven't played it for more than 10 years now. [Edited on 01/13/22 @ 01:15 AM]

Thank you for posting these hints. I've been playing around a bit and it looks like in all versions the exterior provinces only unlock when you are promoted to Caesar. The trick is to keep reloading the last few provinces until Pompous Maximus takes an exterior province, leaving enough normal provinces free for for you to be promoted to Caesar. |
