i made this map for not that much experienced players, or just for players who want something easy for a change. the map is shaped after the actual location, the eastern spanish coast. (although i did put a river in it that's not supposed to be there, and the resources are completely freestile) you will have to build a bridge to cross the river to connect the road to Rome when you start. a low bridge will suffice. there are plenty of funds, mountains, woods and farmland and plenty of options to choose from. the only possible lack is space, although it's pretty abundant when you're not aiming for a multi-1000's city. there are a few surprises, but none of them too nasty. no invasions in this one, so don't be alarmed by the lack of appropriate buildings.

joshofet What is the purpose of another sandbox scenario for the same location for which there is already the one that comes with the game? I know that map is in no way related to the actual site of Valencia, but yours is not much better. Valentia in Roman times was the name of a province, more or less coinciding with the present Spanish province of Valencia. The CCK map could be situated anywhere in that province, not necessarily near the site of the modern city. The island that you have put in in reality lies a few hundred kilometers away.

If you want to have a map with a bridge in it, you can start the map in the game, build the bridge, make a save and broadcast that. That also prevents players from peeking at the event list, or you can decide to upload both in a single zip archive.

meh, i never really make hard maps. my idea is usually to just enjoy building a city, and see how big you/i can make it. i've got a better valentia-map now, where you can make a REALLY big one. it's the first time i've passed 10000 citizens on a map, although i know it's not much.
joshofet There is nothing wrong with easy maps that you can just build on to your hearts content, on the contrary, they are in great demand so keep up the good work. My question was only in what sense your Valentia map is different from the existing one, since players tend to want more of the same, but with a slightly different flavour. Other empire states are a possibility, or you could make a (very) different kind of map.

Your Valentia for Novices has most of the land in a wide strip along a coastal zone with farms, fishing points are not too far from the coast, where IIRC the CCK Valentia has a big central land mass with its resources spread out and fishing in the sea at the end of the river, pretty far from where you would build. Maybe you have put in more differences that would be of interest for the players to know.

Note that although you haven't scheduled invasions, it still is possible that your city comes under attack when you enrage Mars or Caesar. Both can be prevented, by switching off gods effect (I wouldn't advise that), and fixing the favour rating (wouldn't advise that either, but it is done in most sandbox scenario's). Unless you want to put in a certain challenge, I would disadvise switching off forts in a sandbox scenario, just leave it to the discretion of the players to build one or not.

ah, i hadn't thought of that last one about the forts. well, in my new one, the difference with the excisting one is even smaller. :P with that one, i mainly thought about making a easy-as-possible map. maybe i'll make a more difficult version with invasions and problems and such. should i put it up? it will be more of an ideal map to build a city, but with other problems to compensate.
