Empire Area: Lindum
Rank: Engineer
Goals to Win: Culture 70, Prosperity 45, Favor 65, Peace 80, Population 10,000

When first loading this slightly rocky, enormous northern province, the abundance of fertile land for farming seemed unlimited, as did the pile of denarii in my city treasury. This scenario was definitely worth a closer look. The river was a little narrow in spots, which may cause traffic jams, but then again, it may not. All depends on how the waterfront areas are built. There is a small native village tucked in the rocks, but since the village was far away from the sea route, and there was enough farmland for everyone, that won't be a problem. Considering the trade potential, peaceful natives would definitely be an asset.

At the start of the game I read the info the designer provided, which consisted of "A WALL would be handy." There are many attacks throughout the game, since the city is supposed to be the "Guardian" of the Empire! The first(and smallest) attack is a mere 16 Picts. There usually was enough time between attacks to build up strength and concentrate on building up the city. Caesar does ask for many things, but in small quantities, so be sure to keep that in mind while playing.

The only small complaint I had at first with this map was the population(10,000) and peace(80) requirements, which seemed a little high for an engineer level province. After playing the level for several hours, I came to the conclusion the purpose of the goals is to try to extend the war aspect of the map for as long as possible. The "80" peace rating will be harder to achieve as the battles become more frequent, yet with a strong military it is possible. If you like to stretch a game out for more than a few hours, just for the sheer pleasure of playing Caesar III, download this city. There is no reason not to aim for a palace or two if you wish. Governors can easily make money on trade, and food is plentiful. Gamers who like to play a map as fast as possible may get frustrated by many requests and attacks. Due to the slightly higher(but reasonable) goals, it may take players longer than expected to "win" this level, but governors should find it is well worth the game time.
