In 460 BC German tribes are starting to invade Italy. I have one problem. Building a city right in the Alpine Area in very rough terretory. I know that you are the best to fulfill this assignment. There are some 6-8 tribes living int the mountains. If you are wise you try to pacify them and start a prosperous tade with them. Your biggest problem is the very limited space available to you. You may have to extend your city over the whole province.
I want the city to inhabit 8000 people on a fairly high living standard. But just because you are in an area, that is likly to be invade by the Germans, I need regular supplies from you city, since the whole empire is endangered.
It may be wise to establish the profitable trade routes with other cities by using the river. I ordered as many cities as possible to be willing to trade with you. You may be able to make a huge profit by using them.
Be quick with installing defensive measures, because enemies of the empire are not far away.
Alpinus is a challenge. Theres no other way to describe it. In fact, I would have scored it higher, except that Im not sure that you can win it. Funds granted by Caesar are enough to get you going, and there are plenty of trading and building options, but the buildable space is so limited that its hard to get any cohesive town going.
On top of that, add in eight or nine (I lost count) native tribes, very little straight shoreline for fishing or docks, an occasional enemy attack (not too strong), a winding road pattern, and relatively few requests from Caesar, and achieving the victory conditions (especially Favor) becomes nearly impossible.
It clearly took the author quite a bit of time and a good amount of planning to create the map. This is the main reason why the Creativity and Map Design categories get a "4" rating. Nevertheless, no beginner should try this level. It would probably only result in considerable frustration on the players part. However, if you found all of the scenarios included with the game to be far too easy this may be the test youre looking for.

Playability: 5
Everything works, nothing to complain about.
The land is rugged and not easy to build on, but anything can be done. I like it.
Balance: 4
Allover not too difficult and not too easy - so alright.
Creativity: 4
One river splitting the map and rugged land on both sides. Sure a nice idea.
Map Design: 5
There are lots of efforts in creating the map and lots of thinkings. A clear maximum rating.
Story/Instructions: 4
To me a backgroundstory is not that important. It is alright.
Additional Comments:
A nice map that once upon a time.... Was created. Space is more than enough for 8000 people. Quite liked the challenge.
As the review before said, for the beginner it is not the optimal scenario. :)
Thanks for creating this map.
