Since the second Punic war ended Carthaginian dominance of Hispania in 201 B.C., the Balearic islands have developed into a base for pirates. Rome does not overlook this nuisance while it gains control over the western Mediterranean. By 123 B.C., the islands are felt to be ready for colonization. With wealth flowing into Rome at an astounding rate from its newly acquired lands, some patricians are beginning to desire new villas, far away from the ruckus of Latium. You have been assigned by the governor of Hispania Citerior to develop a colony on Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands. Because it is to serve as a haven for patricians, high prosperity ratings are desired. You will not be permitted to build a hippodrome since Romans wanting to relax will not appreciate the disturbance generated by such a venue. Although the island is well-endowed with farmland, the soil is suitable only for olive and vine farms. Fishing will provide you with one type of food and you neighbors are willing to trade large amounts of wheat, and some fruit and vegetables. Clay and/or pottery will also have to be imported onto the island. Funding these imports should prove easy as the island is rich in resources, including iron and marble. A large variety of goods will be asked of you, providing many opportunities to prove the island's value and to achieve the high favor rating asked of you. The consolidation of the island left it uninhabited so you will not have any natives to worry about. The third Punic war and subsequent Spanish wars have left few threats to the security of the western Mediterranean. As a result, this part of the empire should prove about as dangerous as the sheep that inhabit it. |

I finished playing this way back a while ago, and thought I'd drop a quick review. I completeled the scenario at about 98 BC or thereabout (start date 123 BC). I had a great time, and I really enjoyed some of the tough decisions that I had to make!
I really liked how the map actually looks like the island of Mallorca, and the disabling of certain buildings made for an interesting experience.

Too many random events! More than 2 types of them is just annoying. But hilariously, Rome lowered wages (without raises in between) so much that they dropped down to 5! :)

Unlike other players, lack of military action isn't a negative for me. The problem here is that, while obviously intended to create a challenge, everything on this map works against the player. Yes, there's abudant farmland and lots of trees, but that doesn't balance out the water contaminations, price changes, low favor gains, having to import most goods, etc.

Awesome!

- Mining locations are very, very, very limited for such a rocky map.
- Fishing locations in the north are weird ... some of my boats would travel double distance because of the "as the crow flies" rule, and those places are unfit for Docks.
- On the other hand, a single fishing location at the entrance would've allowed for a small cliff-dwelling community - I like fitting stuff in tight spaces. :)
- It also would've been nice to leave just enough of a gap between the shore and the rock formations on both northern ends, or at least add another ramp.
Otherwise it's beautiful!

I don't care much for these. The story is decent enough, so here's a 5.

I just submitted an Eternal Mallorca to the Completed Cities section. Hopefully, it's approved soon - go check it out! :) |

Very nicely designed scenario, but due to the lack of military challenge I recommend to set additional goals. |
