Dacia is ready for settlement now that Decebalus, who has been a nuisance to the empire for a long time, has finally been crushed. Emperor Trajan is wasting no time in consolidating this new province by ordering you to establish a prosperous and cultured city. Some Romans from Asia Minor have been "encouraged" to serve the Empire by migrating into the newly conquered lands. The city will be situated along the banks of the Danube, below the rugged foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Although most organized resistance has been obliterated by Trajan, the Goths may provide some action. Warring native tribes have also been spotted, though they will only serve to amuse you once your defenses are well established. Because your city is on the frontier of the Empire, few trade routes are available. As a result, the natives living in the northern hills will be valuable trading partners, especially if a landslide were to occur. Trajan will demand only small quantities of goods from you as he is preoccupied with his campaigns in the East. Hadrian, his successor, will be far more demanding since he questions Dacia's value to the Empire. Expect him to request iron in large amounts as he tests the profitability of the province's mines. During this period, the Roman Empire was at its height. You must make the grandeur of Rome clear to the natives of this region, as well as securing a foothold in the province for further Roman settlement. Note: Two bridges must be built to complete the road to Rome. |

Playability: 5
Nothing to complain, everything works and is alright
Balance: 4
The challenge is food distribution, as all farmland is concentrated. Pigs become fish, but that matters not that much. Feeding far more than the needed 10.000 people could have become a problem.
The attacks might have been considerably stronger, for one could easily guess about the entrypoints. But the description tells, not much fight to expect, so it is okay.
Creativity: 4
Nice idea of a map with that many rivers. Sadly there is fishing possible, but I could not find any fish. But that will be for reason, or because of the only fixed options one has, choosing a place in the empire when creating a map.
Map Design: 5
I was overwhelmed how beautiful the map is and so had to play it. Most of the land will not come to use / is not needed, that is a bit sad. I did even not need to trade with the natives.
But because of the very detailed natural and lovely design, it must be a maximum rating.
Story/Instructions: 4
To me a backgroundstory is not that important, but it is interesting, I think, not much trade because it is far away from Rome - makes sence.
Additional Comments:
Thanks for creating it!
It was not really difficult to win, I think, but it could spend some fun. The map gave a very beautiful background to (try to) build something beautiful.
I played it with the old CD Rom Version on very hard (of course). |
