Your old friend, the new consul Julius Caesar, has summoned you to an audience. He explains that he needs a reliable and trustworthy friend in the new province of Syria. He asks that you build the new trade-city of Palmyra on the eastern border of the empire between Tarsus and Hierosolyma. He plans to conquer Gaul and will have need of newly recruited troops, weapons, and timber for transport ships if he is to succeed. Roman surveyors have found a peaceful oasis north of Damascus that seems ideal with abundant resources and friendly local natives. The only things lacking in this desert location are local sources of wheat, clay, marble, and underground water for wells. But clay, wheat, and marble can be imported if needed and Roman engineers are available to build reservoirs and aqueducts. "Great changes are about to take place in the Republic my old friend. Can I rely upon your support?" Targets: Culture 45 / Prosperity 50 / Peace 35 / Favor 75 / Population 4000 |

Really an average scenario, in fact, it's on the easier side. It's a desert province with rocks and one oasis. It's peaceful, so no invasions, but there are a few requsts for troops. The only warning is not to anger Mars, as the natives could attack you. This scenario is a good choice if you want to practice city building in a desert. There's no wheat farming allowed, and just enough land to grow fruit, vegetables, and pigs (plus vines and olives). The map gives you several possibilities to solve this mission, but don't forget to leave room for aquaducts - water is accessible in the center of the map only and has to be distributed across the entire city. The Prosperity requirement of 50, however, is fairly low for an assignment without any time limits, military action, or limits on housing levels. Please don't misunderstand me, the scenario is good - it's just rather simple (or maybe I should say straightforward) and easy for a seasoned player. I found it to be a welcome challenge after several harder scenarios. I didn't have to pay attention to planning quite so much, I just played, sometimes tested new ideas, watched how the city grew, and had a good time! My final results after nine years were as follows: 62 Culture (45 needed) 70 Prosperity (50) 38 Peace (35) 84 Favor (75) 4600 Population (4000) |

Target ratings are way too low for a map that allows pretty much everything, and there are few challenges to overcome.
