This is the Praetor level in the career path series. This city is probably a good example of how to create large, independent, self-sufficient and rather prosperous housing areas. As can be seen, both the large insulae blocks (near the entrance and the exit of the city respectively) are rather large, and together house almost 6000 people. Each blocks serves a specific purpose in the larger city scheme. Firstly, the one where almost all the pottery industries are. This is where the city started, and where there was originally a dock to conduct the pottery trade (which has since been removed since I have stopped trading). That area provides nearly all the pottery and furniture for the entire city. The housing sector near the entrance (where the oil industries are), is unsurprisingly the oil supplier for the city. The sector was the second one built in order to sell oil, and for land based trading, where better to conduct the business than at where the entrance is. These two areas serve another important purpose, and that's the boosting of the city's culture rating. One can see that both areas have extremenly high concentrations of schools, libraries, academies and theatres. Basically, these culture-enhancing structures were built as the housing in these two areas evolved to accommodate more people. By the time these two areas were up and running (ie. built and forgotten about, since they are extremely stable and stand absolutely no chance of further evolving or devolving short of a catastrophe, and can a tually be ignored for the rest of the game), the culture rating had been pushed up to almost a hundred already, a rating never to be lost for the remaining duration of the game. Then came the major farming area in the east of the map. The main aim by this time was to build a fairly high class housing area to boost prosperity. Basically, all this area had compared to the other two main sectors was another food source, and slightly more entertainment (entertainment mainly meant to serve the palace area). And when this area too was up and running, the palace block was finally created. And all that was needed then, was for the palaces to fill up and meet the population requirement. This city is also a good example of how a city with supposedly independent housing blocks can assist another in its development. This is by concentrating major industries like pottery or furniture in only one area while all other housing areas merely have warehouses set to 'getting pottery' (or whatever else). This not only saves labour, but precious space as well. Hope this helps.
