The tested attempt for the scenario Amazonuium by TheManStache:

Not the best attempt indeed, I just wanted to complete it as fast as possible having free evening. Actually the assignment proposed by author was pretty easy, completed in 14 years on very hard difficulty (could be even faster) without any serious delays and problems. I am sure that 4x100 ratings and even 20 000 population could be easily achieved because of this fertile area on the half of the map.

However there are still some minor challenges - the main of them are:
- limited land allocation for creating large connected aesthetic city: after 12 000 population the city becomes like mess of islands with mix of houses, farms, industries,... no aesthetism. Maybe it is just lack of normal planning due to fast walkthorough;
- "hunting" for third food type for palaces - very, very limited area for fishing. Of course fruits could also be imported, but I wanted my city to be as much self-sufficient as possible
- placement of docks seemed to be unique, and I personally don't like unique decisions in C3 because this game tends to be multidicisional. Maybe oil may become a problem after 15 000 if city is unstable.

Actually the reason of playing this map was that I became really inspired by the terrain design made by author, it seems he spent a LOT of time to make it very natural looking and big thanks for that! I am really feeling like in jungle with mosquitoes and snakes attacking me. I beleive this is the great advantage of the map!

Wanted to see also test from other "gurus" and maybe from author, this map worth it!

TheManStache Hey, thanks for the review and playthrough! I have a couple things to say in response, and questions about how to improve it.

1. "completed in 14 years." I understand the population objective was really low, but "finishing" the map was never the objective. There is a time factor to the map, and the closer you are to the end, the more difficult the scenario becomes. The intent was to start off slow to allow you to build up, and then hit harder and harder to see if you can withstand the fall of rome".

2. " limited land allocation for creating large connected aesthetic city." This was entirely intentional! There is meant to be very little "large open areas," as this is the amazon rainforest! You have to fit in where you can!

3. "very, very limited area for fishing" There's a very large straight portion of the river completely untouched in your map. That area is wide open for docks and fishing!

4. "there is no weapons" Are you sure? If so, that's a mistake. In my own playtests, I was able to make weapons no problem. There's really no way to get iron for you?

5. "I have no idea what is the purpose of those tiny emperor requests" They get much, MUCH bigger later in the game. And they stick to food because rome is going through a depression and the emperor needs to feed his people.

So what changes would you recommend? I've gathered less farmland, more economic difficulties, higher pop requirement. Anything else?

1. The original timing idea is good thing, but there is no real challenge to postpone building large city early. It would be better that you incorporate some, for example, the trade problems, prices fallings, deseases, 1-2 large invasions on early stage

2. Still a LOT of land available. I just planned city bad, so even 20 000 is not a problem at all with such large building area. With better planning even more pop is possible. To my mind the idea with "unstoppable" natives could serve pretty good for limitation and cutting off the building areas.

3. Actually yes, a lot of places for putting wharves, but for docks still the flat shore is too far from entry point so that olives import could suffer.

4. ""there is no weapons" Are you sure?"

Hmm, pretty sure, no weapon factory and no possibility of import of iron. ???

5. "I have no idea what is the purpose of those tiny emperor requests" They get much, MUCH bigger later...

But they are pretty useless as you may give presents without fullfillment of any request at a ny time. Better to make requests a little bit larger and earlier.

I really don't recommend any changes, the map is pretty entertaining and designed in good manner. But for future it would be good to make not only good design and interesting ideas but to combine them to make some challenges for player, so that he will need 3-4 attempts to make walkthrough.
