Central Britain, 100 AD

After the successful campaign of Agricola, a good soldier and governor combined in one personality, our Northern borders more or less matched the lines of Northern coast of Britain. The lands of picts, celts, britons and other small tribes has been conquered under Roman rule. We have established the furthest Roman province named Caledonia - the mountainous territory on the far North settled by the local native tribes of picts - formidable warriors and excellent farmers. The peace and harmony has been set for a couple of years in Britannia.

However, quiet and peaceful life did not last for a long period. The Agricola has been withdrawn from Britannia province and further expansion of Roman Empire to the north has been stopped. The local riots started from small and rare ones at first at the far mountainous northern communities. They have become more and more annoying. The picts and their allies were even able to destroy the distant Roman garrison quartered at Cheviot Hills.

The fact is that our former friends become our worthiest enemies. They are united, strong and full of commitment to fight for their own destiny. The latest reports stipulate that barbarian attacks spread out to the lowland central part of Britannia. Our prosper city of Eboracum - the gate to the southern Britain - has been besieged by the barbarians. The city surrendered in a year due to lack of food, but those wild bustard animals did not show any mercy to our citizens! The local governor was beheaded and our poor residents were killed and enslaved. Two of our legions quartered here commence ordered retreat for conjunction with another legion in Lindum, our last fort on the way of southern Britannia. However, our forces fall into well-organized trap of celts and were destroyed completely.

As Lindum was peaceful and lawful province for 50 years, situated far from the dangerous regions, we recruit some native inhabitants into the local legion: almost the half of the staff of Lindum garrison was formed by britons and celts. What a horrible mistake we have done! Betrayers even did not try to fight - these men go over to the enemy during one night, dispersed through nearby forests waiting for additional lucre! Names of those ashamed people should be deleted from our history, gods curse on them forever! Now after the fort of Lindum has fallen, the rich southern regions of Britain are vulnerable and fully unprotected. The extraordinary measures shall be done rapidly.

Some of the barbarian forces has already passed through our defenses in Lindum and are on their way to the capital - Londinium. Some are still having their rest after previous fights on the borders of Lindum. You are granted to stop them before they are reinforced with the infiltrated group of barbarians! Due to recent losing of 2 legions you are also asked to help the Empire to close a hole in northern armies. Unfortunately almost all nearby iron mines and our food stocks has been captured by the enemy. Your city is one of the places with large fertile area and iron mining resources. So be ready to supply weapons and food for our legions formed in a hurry near Londinium. Do not forget to make your own defenses and legions very quickly - the barbarians are at your gate already. Be aware that they want to build their own city at these lands, so be prepared for hard resistance of Roman presence! Perhaps the best choice will be strong and thick wall, or not?

We are expecting that not only swords shall be your exceptional weapon in fighting against barbarians. You are provided with enough money for starting building strong fortifications and a rich province of Lindum provides you necessary resources for the erection of powerful and prosper outpost to demonstrate those wild people the advantages of civilized Roman lifestyle. After building a high quality Roman city probably most of them will recognize our superiority. Until somebody will become in doubt of it next time...

Please, post your own attempts, I am working on my own, but even for me as an author the map is pretty tough.
Senseisan Entry submitted , not very difficult , just " don't bother " !

Nota : I used an unpatched game , Win8 refuses the patch ...

Senseisan, very nice to see your post, I thought you get "retired" from Caesar, but no, you are here! By the way what do you think about this prosperity goal - is it possible to achieve it without villas? As I remember all GI gives 80 rating exactly...
Senseisan I don't even dreamed about feeding 12 000 guys in GI on this map in northern climate . Maybe I am wrong ...

Yes, it is hard to feed so many plebs with available farmland keeping in mind there would be no fishing but with those sea fish it is possible to feed up to 15 000...

I very much appreciate your vision of fulfilling this city: really a LOT of tents (half of the map :))) ). You like very much to achieve goals but not to build aesthetic city, but this is also nice!
