Mess in Massilia
by Hikumi
The mess in Massilia
Central provinces
Large province
City is besieged
Very hard assignment
Map statistics:
Starting funds: 10,000
Rescue loan: 10,000
Rank: Praetor
Year: A.D. 30
Brief description:
Massilia is in a mess. Clean it up and prove that you don't mess around. Much military activity.
Detailed description:
Caesar is attending today's gladiator tournament, governor, but that matters little. For it is not Caesar who has called for you. On the contrary, it is I, his proconsul for Roma, who have a personal favor to ask of you. Do not be alarmed, it is not regarding something you did. Take a seat, and I will explain.
The situation is this, as you may already know, Caesar wanted a city along the lands of Massilia. So he assigned a governor there, without actually knowing who he sent. Coincidentally, the chosen person happened to be the consul, my subordinate, your direct superior. Sadly, the individual lacked the ability to govern a city and made a blunder out of his initial effort. His failure would tarnish my image along with the other Senate members', so we had him, "relieved", if you know what I mean. Oh do not take pity on him; he was a sly and corrupt consul. But now that he's no longer in charge of Massilia, I ask that you take his place as governor of the land. Your reputation as one capable of rebuilding a city from ruins precedes you. Besides, Caesar has no idea that it was not you who started the city. If you do well, you get all the credits, as well as Caesar's gratitude. There is nothing to lose.
There are, however, several things to note. You must make haste, for this part of Massilia is currently being threatened by enemy invasions. The last we heard from the former governor is that enemies are already moving in on to Massila's doorstep. You may have little worries about that because our cohorts are defending Massilia as we speak.
However, there is another issue. As you know, Massilia is not known for its iron mine reserves. It so happens that the Emperor has requested for the delivery of a huge amount of iron from a neighboring city. The courier has stopped by in Massilia and stored the goods temporarily in Massilia’s warehouses. Unfortunately, the former governor located these warehouses near enemy borders. If you fail to make the delivery, that blame will be on you, governor, so do what you must to ensure the goods remain safe.
Once you have solved all the problems at hand, turn towards your city and construct it worthy of 7,000 individuals. Your ratings goal would only be moderately high.
Winning conditions:
70 Culture
70 Prosperity
70 Peace
70 Favor
7,000 Population
Hints:
Pause the game or slow down the game speed to assess the situation and scan the environment first.
Remember, you can build walls, gatehouses and towers.
Scout reports:
Massilia is under the protection of 2 cohorts of legionaries and 1 cohort of javelins. They are academy-trained.
The warehouses housing the irons are holding goods requested by the Emperor. You cannot obtain iron here, therefore they must be protected at all costs.
Our enemies are sly. They know their way around the lands and may strike from unexpected locations.
Neighboring cities may need help in battle.
Change log:
Revamped the entire southern part of the map, instead of a single patch of fertile land surrounded by obstacles, I spread the yellow grass all over and allowed more empty land.
Disabled the iron mines.
Enabled the building of bridges. |
