CAESAREA BATTLE
Hail governor,
"I have summoned you to discuss the grave matter facing Rome. Due to the draught of recent years and the turmoil in Egypt, our food supplies are quickly depleting. Prices of food-stuff are on the rise across the empire. To avoid disaster, we will build a chain of farming colonies in Africa."
"I am sending you to Caesarea where you will establish a prosperous trading city that supplies food to the empire. Caesarea should be the distribution center in this campaign, I hope you can make the city desirable enough to attract our richest merchants to settle."
"The province is rich in farming lands, and there are a few abandoned mines in the mountains by unfrequented side-roads. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of skilled craftsmen, you will have to import the finished goods you may need."
"Some of the locals are relatively friendly, and may become valuable trading partners. Other tribes, and the Numidian raiders roaming the area, are however posing a military threat. You cannot build defensive fortifications on the treacherous sand, and you have no weapons to arm legionaries. Use auxiliary forces instead to support your farming operations."
"I have faith in your governmental skills to found our African trading capital and save Rome from the disaster of famine."
*******

No workshops
No weapons, no legionaries
No walls, no towers

Fully playable.
Balance: 5
Caesar's requests put a strain on my already faultering economy early in the game and dealing with all the attacks was very straining. If anything though, attacks could have been larger towards the end. Even the 2-in-1 attack was easy to destroy with just 2 Cavalry and 4 javelin armies.

Yeah, I loved the pressure of no workshops. It was good!
Map Design: 5
I absolutely hate desert maps. This one was enjoyable despite that. The terrain was unpleasant and food placement tricky to work around. Yep, it was a great map to play.
Story/Instructions: 5
I'm not keen on stories for these maps, but the constant demand for food really made me feel like the breadbasket of the empire.
I enjoyed this one as much as Lugdunum, perhaps more because the invasions were not flawed. Great stuff!

Thank you for playing and rating my map DDR Jake. For some reason, this is the most downloaded of my maps. I am flattered by the perfect scores you gave and I am happy that my design intentions worked so well for you.
In my economically oriented scenarios, I tend to keep the military challenge moderate towards the end, to let the player focus on perfecting the city. If you want a tough military challenge, I recommend my Tingis Battle scenario.

Very much enjoyed this! I'm not the kind of player who immediately retries the map for more perfection. But I would surely play the map again, and as the saying goes, there are several ways to Rome in this scenario which is great.
Balance: 5
It's surely the biggest challenge I met so far in C3 (I haven't played many user scenarios though). Not so experienced players might find it too hard, because money is a constant issue until you have luxury housing. And military without legionaires unusual as well, brought me out of the comfort zone. For my level it was just right.
Creativity: 5
The "no workshops" idea is definitely unique to me. In the career missions, the notion of exporting iron would have had me chuckle.. in this map I was already keen on earning a fortune with it. Then I realised that it's a sea trade route and where the suitable spots are!
Map Design: 4
As mentioned, the map adds to the exporting challenge. At the end I thought the area was a bit too small to make food transport really an issue. Next time I could try without the little patch of farmland of the natives.
Story/Instructions: 5
Fits perfectly to the challenges and requests.

Very creative. Very interesting not to allow Legions and walls. More an economic mission than a military mission.
Map Design: 5
Nice, interesting map. But, ... i would have placed some trees or small bushes. It would look a bit better with vegetation, i think.

Additional Comments:
Interesting map and interesting game play. Quite different from other maps. You dont get a lot of money from trade, so it is quite difficult in the beginning to import expensive oil an whine for patricians.
I really enjoyed the scenario: Thats why i give a 5 rating.

Good timing of the events
Balance: 5
Nice military challenge

Nice idea without workshops, towers, ..
Map Design: 5
The challenge of water distribution was greater than that of food transport :)
Story/Instructions: 5
Good motivation for this scenario
Additional Comments:
In my attempt the route to Carthago Nova was not opened to limit the housing level to Grand Villa.
One of many options that this scenario offers. |

I was wavering between debt and no debt for long time due to which my 100 favour dropped to 10. but thankfully i gave caesar his goods and so his legions kept standing on the enterance and went back without breaking anything. Money issues stabilized after making 2 luxury palaces which gave me huge tax and also 20 grand insulae and 34 large insulae i had. in the end i stopped all exports and relied on tax income whilst importing all goods.
Balance: 4
Balance was okey-ish in terms of military. In economy i had tough time to avid debt as i was importing furniture, pottery, oil. But Luxury palaces came to rescue
Creativity: 5
Good idea of city with no workshops. I didnot think it would be possible to complete without single workshop
Map Design: 5
Map was good. The rocks prevented from making typical block designs but it was not big problem. Only issue i had was to locate for where to put iron mines and i could find only 1 place. so i made iron mines adjacent to arrows (entrance and exit)

Final Prosperity = 100
Peace = 100
Culture = 84
Favour = 80
I think i could have made it easy by making luxury palaces after making block of 34 large insulae. That would have solved my money issues in order to build furthure city. 3 LUXPALAc are enough to solve money crisis. [Edited on 02/16/20 @ 05:37 AM]
