I just ran a new installation (Minimum) on a laptop with XP on it. The installation music was there, but the game and videos do not have any music or city sounds - no sounds at all.
I have played other games on this laptop, including Half Life, Thief 1 and 2 etc, with full game sound.
Has there been a patch over the years? Any ideas?
I have played other games but Pharaoh is my favourite and always come back to it, but I would like to enjoy the complete experience and city noises and music helps to set the scene like no other game.

There is a patch. Check your Pharaoh version--if you have version 1.0, then it isn't patched. (Or, if you have Cleopatra, if it is version 2.0 then it isn't patched.) It's a good idea to patch either game.
The patch did enable sound for people running on Windows 2000. If you're running Pharaoh using Windows 2000 compatibility mode (or perhaps another compatibility mode) then that might be the problem.

Strangely it was the other way round for me. I was in compatibility mode for W2K, I changed it to W95/8 and the sound is full on.
I'm back in Egypt after a long exile!

I hope this forum is still active, as the last post was from 2009.
I also am having an issue with no sound during gameplay. I am using Pharaoh version 1.0, without the Cleopatra expansion on a Win7 64-bit laptop. I tried installing the patch to 1.2 and that resolves the sound issue, allowing the sound to work normally, but then I am back to the issue where the game freezes up after about 5 minutes of game play.
I read through all the posts about the freezing but nothing seemed to resolve the issue for me. I tried running it in various comatability modes from 95 (wouldn't load) to NT. I tried setting it to run on only one processor and the lockups continued.
So is there any other way to get the game sounds to work without the 1.2 patch or am I just going to have to imagine the sounds of the game? I haven't played it for a while until now but I played it for so long in the past I can hear all the sounds in my head but it's not the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
