I played 5 more years of Thinis, with no intervention except for military (and the reopening of the Men-Nefer trade route to get papyrus). This is a condensed report.
The eleventh year (2005BC) started with the trade route to Men-Nefer being available again, raising the Kingdom rating. That trade route was immediately opened and papyrus was set to importing. In Feb, we received a warning that Nubians would invade in 4 months, and the warship damaged at Men-Nefer was repaired and sent to join 3 other warships guarding the south. In May, each fort was back to 16 soldiers. In Jun, Nubians (2 warships and 2 transports) attacked in the south, were easily sunk, and slightly damaged one of our warships, which was sent in for repairs. Also in Jun, the last immigrant family arrived and the population stabilized at 7896. In Jul, we received a warning that Egyptians would invade in 4 months. In Aug, the damaged warship was repaired, and it and another warship from the south were sent to join 2 other warships guarding the north. In Nov, Egyptians (4 warships and 3 transports) attacked in the north, 2 of the enemy transports were quickly sunk but the other landed 10 infantry and 6 archers on the west bank in the north, a furious warship battle began, and all of our soldiers were sent north (the east bank soldiers were transported across the river). In Dec, our Kingdom Rating rose due to "sacrifices in combat", the last Egyptian warship was sunk, one of our warships that was damaged was sent in for repairs, the land battle began with all of our archers in front of the defensive position, and a donkey from Dunqul Oasis was killed.
The twelfth year (2004BC) began with a battle in progress. In Jan, our archers withdrew into the defensive position, which was attacked by the Egyptians. In Feb, a caravan from Waset was killed, and the few remaining enemy retreated, leaving us with land casualties (ignoring policemen) of 2 infantry and 1 archer. Also in Feb, the damaged warship was repaired. In Mar, the east bank soldiers were transported back across the river. In Apr, each fort was back to 16 soldiers.
The thirteenth year (2003BC) was uneventful.
The fourteenth year (2002BC) began with the Kingdom Rating at 99, so I thought, "Another uneventful year and it'll be 100." Wrong! In Feb, our Kingdom rating fell "because of dissatisfaction in the Kingdom". In Jun, Men-Nefer requested waterborne troops within 2 months, and 3 warships were immediately dispatched (leaving 2 in the north and 1 in the south). In Oct, our victorious warships returned, and 1 that was damaged was sent in for repairs. In Nov, a trade ship from Men-Nefer ran aground.
The fifteenth year (2001BC) conclusively showed that not building on the east bank (and giving up the gold) would have been prudent. In Jan, we received a warning that Egyptians would invade in 1 month, and the damaged warship was repaired and sent to join 3 other warships guarding the north. In Feb, we received a warning that Nubians would invade in 5 months. Also in Feb, Egyptians (23 infantry and 15 archers) attacked on the east bank in the north (between the rocks and the floodplain), 16 archers and 16 infantry from the west bank boarded transports and headed east, the east bank soldiers (16 archers and 16 infantry) moved into one of the east bank defensive positions, the 4 northern warships moved to the nearby coast, and some of the Egyptian infantry attacked the defensive position. In Mar, we received a warning that more Nubians would invade in 2 months, our infantry being transported were sent back to the west bank (since I didn't want to face 2 Nubian attacks with just 32 soldiers on the west bank), our transported archers joined the battle at the defensive position, some of the enemy infantry retreated, 2 of the undamaged northern warships were sent to join the 2 warships guarding the south, the remaining enemy infantry attacked the defensive position, the enemy archers battled the 2 remaining warships, and the surviving enemy archers retreated. In Apr, the surviving enemy infantry retreated, leaving us with land casualties (ignoring policemen) of 9 infantry, 2 archers, and 1 police station. (With more than half of their comrades killed, the east bank infantry had Poor Morale--at this point I was worried about survival. ) Also in Apr, the 1 damaged warship was sent in for repairs, the other (undamaged) warship went back to guarding the north, and the destroyed police station was rebuilt. In May, Nubians (3 warships and 3 transports) attacked in the south, were sunk (not quite as easily this time), and damaged 1 warship, which was sent in for repairs. Also in May, the warship guarding the north was sent to join the 3 undamaged warships in the south, one of the damaged warships was repaired and sent to guard the north, and the west bank archers were transported back across the river. In Jun, our Kingdom Rating rose due to "sacrifices in combat". In Jul, Nubians (17 infantry and 8 archers) attacked near the Kingdom Road in the south, all of our soldiers except for the east bank infantry (who were still licking their wounds) were sent south (the 14 east bank archers were transported across the river), the 4 southern warships moved to the coast, the enemy infantry quickly moved past the warships, the enemy archers stayed to battle our warships, a damaged warship was sent in for repairs, and a previously damaged warship was repaired and sent south. In Aug, the surviving enemy archers retreated, another damaged warship was sent in for repairs, the land battle began with some archers in front of the defensive position, those archers withdrew into the defensive position, the enemy infantry attacked the defensive position, some enemy infantry retreated, and some of our infantry were repositioned to prevent a few of the enemy from swinging around the southwest flank. In Sep, the remaining enemy infantry were killed, leaving us with casualties (ignoring policemen) of 3 infantry, 2 archers, and 1 police station. Later in Sep, the damaged police station was rebuilt. In Oct, the east bank archers were transported back across the river and a damaged warship was repaired. In Nov, the last damaged warship was repaired, and each fort had 16 soldiers. (After all that action, I was surprised that the military completely recovered before the end of the year.)After the 5-year continuation, the results were:
Culture: 35
Prosperity: 65
Kingdom: 94
funds: 138450
population: 7896
months: 192
level: Very Hard
score: 41160
The last year was tough! A question for anyone who's played Thinis (without paying extortion) considerably more than 15 years: are any later years as difficult as that 2001BC? (Another player's date may be different if the mission was designed with some randomness.)
