Just started playing this game recently and having a wee bit of trouble with moving goods around. I have a pottery industry at one end of town which supplies a local warehouse. I have a warehouse at the other side of town which needs pottery for the markets it supplies.
I have tried changing the pottery orders to 'getting goods' at the warehouse but this does not seem to help, the warehouse still lies empty while the local warehouse has supplies. Am I missing something or is this a bug with my version (PC version 1.1)? The only way I can get pottery to the other warehouse is to set the local warehouse to not accept pottery at all but I do not want to do this as this increase production time.
Can anyone help ?

The easiest way to solve this problem is to centralize your warehouses so that both ends of town have market access to them. In other words, one warehouse in the middle of town would provide only one destination for your pottery, but at the same time allow all markets access. Your market ladies will travel to the warehouse to get what they need.
But if you want to leave things the way they are, make sure there is a unobstructed road betwwen the far warehouse and the one with the pottery, and make sure there is full employment at the far warehouse. If you set the far warehouse "to get", and there are sufficient supplies at the 1st warehouse, your cart pushers should go get the goods. Post back and let us know how it goes.

Octavius Maximus, A warehouse cart pusher that is "getting" a good does not need a road connection.
Waddie, A warehouse will only "get" a good if the "accepting" warehouse has at least a certain amount (5, I think) of that good, and only if the "getting" warehouse has no more than a certain amount (4, I think). Set the distant warehouse to "get" pottery, and see what happens when the "accepting" warehouse has 5 pottery.

That's what I meant by saying the 1st warehouse "having enough pottery". And thanks for yet another correction,Brugle. Nice to know you're always waiting around to do that.

Thanks guys, my problem was the 'sufficient number' not being in the warehouse and a lack of patience.
I presume that if you set a warehouse to getting food it will only get food from another warehouse and not from a granary ?

Getting food with Granaries is another story altogether. Just remember that Warehouses can only get goods from Warehouses, and this goes the same for Granaries.
Granaries always need a road connection for any food transportation.
Warehouses are the same, with the exception of Warehouses set to Get Goods. No road connection is needed for this process.

I like to add that when you want food into your warehouse from a Granary, you can tell the Granary to empty the stock. For example "empty wheat" and tell the Warehouse to accept wheat.

The other way I found was to set all the granaries in the city to not accepting food for a short time. Worked quite well but I'll try emptying too.
