Ave all,
This is just the latest journal/thread for
Caligula, myself, and anyone else playing Londinium right now. Post your thoughts, taunts, ideas, or musings for our benefit. My game was going along nicely until I didn't get the pop-up message that the large Celt invasion was on my map! About six months later I noticed it big time. I then went looking for my last save and realized it was 7 game years prior. Aggghhh! I thought I had saved, but I had not. So I am exactly half way there again, and wishing I had gotten that message. Chalk one up for experience. This is not an auspicious start.C

Thanks
paultheo,
You did write a fine walkthrough for this level. When Caligula and I play we try to play the same level as the other so we can discuss it. This thread is for Londinium newbies or experts, and is intended as a journal of your game play.Cheers,C

Hi!
I'm on Londinium right now (first time). I'm, say, a little more than 2 years prior to the first invasion. I'm having difficulties getting walkers out of my industrial area, but I believe I've almost got it fixed- ever since I added a housing area south of it, and a few within, things have started to get better.
My population is over 2,000, and I've got at least 15, but probably 20 or so farms. However, my food levels are always LOW!!! Any ideas?
Finally, are the Celts hard to beat? I've got 2 javelins right now, and hopefully one legion by the invasion (must expand industries).

P.S. As for my military career, it kinda ground to a halt, because I think that concentrating all my efforts on one city will produce better results (I used to play the military/peaceful simutaneously).

Hi
Eric,
I would definitely recommend you get some legions! The Celts are tough. You will do fine though.Cheers

Oh, and another thing- where did y'all start on the map?
To me, there's usually one real obvious place to start, but I just couldn't decide this time. At first, I started in the south-west, bordering the water (so I could bridge over for food). Then, I started over, discovering that there wasn't really enough space there get a well planned city going.
After the re-start, I started in the middle of the north-eastern bank of the river, where my city is currently flourishing (kinda).

Eric_Liu,
15 northern farms should produce enough to feed 2400 people (as long as granaries aren't too far away). However, houses build up large food stocks, so it's good to produce lots of surplus food for a while.
I don't remember the invasions in Londinium as being particularly difficult. I tried to quickly man 6 forts (all three types) and eventually built some towers.
I started with two settlements. One had a few houses on both sides of a bridge, with industries along the coast east of center and farms on the smaller farming island. The other was a large residential/farming community in the north.

Ave Eric Liu, the only thing I can think of is: add some farms. Make sure your distribution system is working properly. Place graneries close to your farms and graneries close to your housing blocks set to: "getting food". If you want more details check the grumpus site, under strategy and then under feeding your folks.
The celts are indeed tough, and quick. The first invasion is puny though, so don't despair. Build thick walls at the invasion point (it is always the same except for one invasion that comes some 30 tiles further north) with towers if you have the cash and unemployent. I never use legionaries but in your case I recommend a combination of troops. Legionaries because they are strong, perhaps 2 of them. At least 3 javelins to kill those chariots from a distance and a cavalry (do not neglect this!!!) because if those chariots slip by your lines, the only way you are going to catch them is with use cavalry!Without them you are toast! Most say that celts are the toughest invaders. Personally I say the carthaginians. Carthaginians are stronger then the celts but require less tactics to be defeated.
Where I started...let me think..oh ya, I started in the North close to the farmland where I build most of my blocks. Then I expanded towards the south beside the island with farmland where I build docks, extra farms, and on the opposite shore my palace block.
Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK!

Just a little hint here... don't let the unemployment go too high, it caused me a terrible ending. It's the only time I used a "sprite", leaving all my population starving and keeping 6 palaces with not one farm working. Don't do that.
