Alright, so I've scoured the forums here, read the full text of the adventure editor guide, searched the internet, and yet I still have found nothing quite like my problem. Maybe I just don't know how to search this properly, or I'm doing something wrong that should be obvious....but here's my issue.
I go and set all my settings for all my episodes, world map cities, etc. I don't have any issues with max foods or any of that. No pop-up things that say I can't save because of xyz blah reason. No known issues with any of that. I'm not trying to break any game rules or hex edit or anything. I don't want to have extra Sanctuaries in my cities and I don't want to make things super complicated. I'm just trying to make a fun, interesting story where, to put it simply, the player has to set up two colonies while being annoyed and eventually confronted by rebelling vassals that were just recently conquered, a few random monster events and stuff thrown in. I don't like natural disasters so there aren't any in my events. I went through and double and triple checked everything in the editor screen, and it all looks like it Should work just fine.
But when I go to do a test play, using the Ambrosia cheat to fast-forward through just basically to see if my events trigger properly, here's what happens. At least one of the events fire off when it's not supposed to, during an episode it's not supposed to happen in.
Let me elaborate. I have the adventure set up as Colony, Colony, Parent, Parent, Victory. Obviously it starts with Parent City anyway because that's how this works and we all know that already. Free choice of colony. No forced choice city appears triggers or anything complicated. Just pick one of two. Then another colony. Which would be the only other option available. Obviously it will go back to parent between the two, which is ideal and fine and blah. Neither colony will make or break anything else about the story, it's just a matter of which one you want first. After Ambrosia testing, the tributes and gifts and all that other stuff happens just as it should, all fires off correctly, no tributes recieved from uncolonized places or whatever, all's fine there.
I don't have any rival invasions set up for the first three slots of episodes or for either of the colony episodes, only thing I have in the events that has to do with anything close to rivalry for that block of time is set up to "End Rebellion-Recurring" from the one city so the player gets the idea that they're not favorable to their newly-ousted vassal and revolt will happen sooner or later.[I have some other events unrelated to rivalry set up, not a lot, mostly gifts and monster/god invasions set up but those work the way they should so it's not that.] Then later on, the cities who aren't happy with the player are going to band together and attack. The player's goal at that time is to rule these places, so they'll have to strategize between attacking and defending. The player gets to beat them up and then the Victory episode is actually just a free-play with no goals so it can go sandbox after everything settles. Like I said, it's meant to be fun. Not super challenging.
So, that said, I set the rival invasions to happen in the settings of the second designated Parent episode, which is the fourth slot in editor. BUT, the one city keeps invading DURING THE FIRST EPISODE, BEFORE GOING TO THE FIRST COLONY. Right around the third year, which is when I have the first "Rebellion Over" event. And the invasion always happens directly before the rebellion is announced, and then shortly afterwards ends. AND, it's not even the city that's rebelling which invades, it's another rival which should be invading AFTER both colonies are set up.[The idea is that the rebels have teamed up with the rivals.] I've made sure there are NO rival invasions set for ANY of the settings before the aforementioned Parent episode slot #4 and it still happens.
This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING! I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, rechecked everything, redone the adventure from scratch, no copying anything, with a whole new adventure file, and yet it keeps happening. I've deleted the Rebellion Over events. Then retested. Then added the events back in because it still didn't fix it so that wasn't the problem. I can't seem to get the darn thing to just WORK how and when it's supposed to. Nothing else is really going haywire as far as I can tell-all the other events seem to happen as they should, all the tributes and triggers and status changes, all the texts and goals and everything else works just fine. But this one buggy thing is driving me nuts.
Is this just because they're rivals who don't like me? Can the game self-dictate invasions that you don't script just based on how friendly or unfriendly the city is towards you? If that's the case, then this probably isn't a glitch, but it's very annoying and needs to be fixed.
**Here's a little side-note on how my adventure build is set up. Something that may or may not be causing hiccups. I have the max four Sanctuaries set on Parent with a chosen four allowed of my Proximate Friendly Gods, but then in Colony episodes I drop that to max two with one previously allowed Sanctuary and one previously unallowed Sanctuary. I'm not sure if the max four sanctuary rule actually applies to actively-played map at the time or to the entire game, or if that tends to cause things to disappear or whatever, but since it has absolutely nothing to do with invasions I don't think this is the issue. However, if having a Sanctuary to, say, Hephestus in Colony Episode 2 means I lose one of the four Sanctuaries I presumably have already built in Parent map, that's something I'd like to know so I can fix it and direct the player to use the Sanctuaries intended for each map.[I have a colony which is rich in bronze and want them to have Hephestus Sanctuary, but I don't want that same Sanctuary built in Parent City. So I have it unavailable in all Parent City settings, but available in that specific Colony settings as well as another Sanctuary, with max 2 for those settings....you get the idea. This concept is true of both colonies, albeit with different gods set for each of them. All Parent settings for all episodes are the same besides goals and events; no difference in Mythology, Resources, World Settings, etc. so there shouldn't be any conflicts there.]
If anyone has had this problem before and knows how to fix it, or if you need more details, or if you want me to try and send you the files to see if you can figure it out, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for anything fancy or rule-breaking or any of that, just a simple, fun game with enough challenge to be less-than-boring, but not difficult, that ends with sandbox.
Alternatively, if somebody wants to just get the game files and fix it for me, that would be just fine by me too, as long as it works the way I want it to I really don't care. I'd prefer to know how to fix it myself but I'll take whatever option I can get. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you can help!
I'm going to pre-emptively say that due to seeing how ancient these posts are, I'm going to bump this periodically until somebody responds with something that works. And if I figure it out on my own I'll post the solution, and whoever helps me will get much gratitude, and....yeah, blah.
