A few of you may have bumped into the straw thread on the Game Help forum and wondered:
"What the >bleeep< is this doing here."

So I might as well open up a nice piece of prime forum estate and hand it over to MRed.

A capstone?
I think I can manage to locate you some porphyry near Aswan, with lovely big crystals. Alternatively I could find you some nice and white Tura Limestone.

Your choice.

PAC, careful with that poppy-steeped wine, it's pretty heady.

Oh, Angel Jahakemhotep.....The one with the crystals, definitely....It will sparkle like diamonds in the sun....A fitting touch to such a beautiful testament to my deeds...

Ah, Pharaoh Titanicus, I think I have just what you need. I just HAPPEN to have 40 newly finished paintings of the last party that we had in Rome, of all of the festivities...Would you be interested in them? And I have some lovely pink Mediterranean marble, if that would be of any help. Also, I came across 4 blue veined marble columns last week, they are 40 feet tall, and 3 feet around. Would these interest you at all?

I will have them delivered to you if you like.

......hmmmmm.....glassware......

from the looks of it, this will be a VERY busy party, so we may want to go with at least a storage yard full of assorted glassware, any chance of dedicating a labor camp to dish washing?

Liz: I think that is a wonderful idea....a work-camp for dishwashing! I will make PAC the head dishwasher... ..No, I think her talents are best used as the grocery person. Also, I ordered the cases of glassware you recommended, it should be shipped later this week...I guess it will arrive just as I get the game I have been waiting for.

PAC:I think you are doing a wonderful job. Please don't forget to order more peanuts for Tusky, and find out what we need in case Bob shows up. Also, do you think we need some appetizers? I think it might be a good idea. Also, I ordered the firepits dug, and the Barbies built, on Wen's recommendations.

Pharaoh Titanicus:I think the green marble will be just enough payment......Thanks a bunch. Is there anything else I can help you with????

Coming along great, folks.....

A small procession moves towards the Abu docks. A score of swarhty looking Egyptians are pulling a wooden sled containing a finely carved piece of porphyry. The large quartz and feldspar crystals are scattering the sunlight.

At the dock a boat is ready to sail up to Em-Red-Bydos and deliver the capstone to the Lady herself.

MRed sits in a corner, grumbling to herself, as she has just received the news that her game is being shipped today, and she won't receive it till early next week. She had tried to cancel the order, but the Taskmaster told her that it was impossible to stop the order now. She has also had other bad news this morning, and that has ruined her mood for the day.

"Lady MRed, Lady MRed!!!!!" Kiya, her faithful servant, ran up to her, breathing heavily. "The Angel Jahakemhotep has sent a runner to tell me that the capstone for the stele is on a barge at this very moment, and is headed this way. The runner said it should be here within 4 hours."
Kiya stood looking at her boss, grinning from ear to ear, as she knew that MRed was really looking forward to having the stele finished.

"Ah, that wonderful Angel. What a friend he is! The capstone!.....I can hardly believe that I will see it today. It just means so much to me to have the stele finished, and it should be ready for the capstone by the time it arrives. Then all that has to be done is for the jewels to be placed."

MRed sank down into a chair at the table, and, looking over the gardens to the stele, fell into a daydream about how wonderful her stele would look after it ws finished. Kiya stood at her side, gazing fondly down at her boss.

"Well..." said MRed, looking at the new game she had just been fortunate enough to trade a passing market lady 12 gold bars for..........."I am declaring and official DAY OFF! Everyone pack your things, and gather round! I am going ot be installing the game shortly, and we will have no time to work! Gatekeeper, let no-one past these gates without my capstone...Otherwise, hang the "quarantined" sign on the gate, and
Let's play!!

Kiya watched as the gatekeeper swung the heavy gates closed, and hung the sign on them. She enjoyed seeing the Lady MRed in such a good mood, as her morning had been such a disaster.....She turned and motioned for the Head Food Bearer to bring more of the Herbal Tea that MRed is so fond of, and told a small child sitting nearby to run and get the fan-bearer, as MRed was settling in for a long period of play. She would need nourishment, and, in her complete absorption in the game, Kiya knew from experiencing this before, the Lady MRed would forget to eat or sleep......Kiya reminded the rest of the staff to set a mood of quiet, as the Lady MRed would reward them handsomely for their help.......

"Ah, good! House is still standing, nobody is sick or starving, and stele is progressing...By the way, anybody seen my capstone? Great job, Kiya! I am going back to my game now, carry on."

MRed popped her head up from behind the immense scroll she was holding, just to check on things for a minute. She found all going to her satisfaction, and grabbing another tray with food, drink, and herbals, sank back down into the cushions, and continued on with her game....

A courier runs up to MRed's mansion and knocks.
"Message for the Lady MRed, Ma'am" he says when Kiya opens. He hands her the scroll and trots of again.

Later in MRed's office. The scroll of papyrus has collected some dust before the she can tear herself away from the screen long enough to read some messages. She rips off the seal and reads:

"Dear Lady,
Currently stuck in Meidum. Will pop by later for some more herbs.
Yours
- Angel Jayhawk"

She smiles and thinks,
"Hmm I may even catch up with the illustrious angel..."

MRed furiously scribbles a reply to the message she just received, and instructs Kiya to send it with a runner to Angel Jahakemhotep. The message reads,

"Angel Jahakemhotep, glad to know that you are doing well, and having a profitable trip. Here is a bundle of herbals to tide you over. By the way, please tell everyone you meet to send me a cartload of bricks. I am stuck in Behdet, trying to build this mastaba, and have no BRICKS!! Cordially,

MRed-Kam-Ca-Seneb"

Kiya tells her fastest runner to gather a bundle of tea herbals for the Angel, and to fly like the wind to him....

Send another runner with the message that I am now starting the task Pharaoh has set for me in Meidum...and he is to send hippo hunters, if possible.....Oh, and Kiya, please find sme more corndogs and beer for me, ok? I also would like another bundle of herbals.....Thanks."

MRed stretched again, and returned to the game that has held her so fascinated for so long....

MRed looked up from her scroll, and said to Kiya, "Has anyone heard from Angel Jahakemhotep? I fear he has been lost in a sand storm or attacked by Bedouins....." Kiya leaned down and whisphered to one of her runners.."Go, and don't return until you have word of the Angel she asks about..."

"Kiya, since it appears that the rest of the kingdom has forgotten about us, we might as well close the gates and put the place up for sale." MRed spoke sadly, looking at the wondrous compound that she had built, and at the stele, sitting in most of its glory in the midst of the garden. It is still missing its capstone. "What wonderful plans I had for this place....."

A bedraggled looking fellow appears a the Lady Red's mansion. He knocks and when the door opens he falls flat on his face. A papyrus roll is locked in his hands.

A few hours later he awakes in a bright room with a very distinctive herbal smell. The Lady Red and her stewart are watching him. He frantically looks for his scroll and find it on the night stand. A sigh of relief and he hands it to the Lady.

MRed rips of the seal and scans the papyrus.
"What took you so long?" She asks the runner.
"I got caught in sandstorms, chased by bedouins and hyenas," he mumbles.

She looks at the papyrus again.
"Still stuck in Meidum. At least the pyramid is taking shape. Have made small trips to various outposts of the Land, but managed to get a touch of malaria.

Please send a small cask of herbals with Menreseth.
Hope you are well,
- Jayhawk"

MRed quietly said to Kiya..."Take those robes and his sandals, and burn them. The smell alone would kill someone, and we have to be careful of the malaria.." Kiya shook her head in agreement. "And, Kiya," said MRed,"Send a boy to the fields 2,4,and 9, and have him gather large bundles from each of the far eastern portions. Have him bring them to me. And have Kiya-shepset ready two of the fastest camels I have, and feed and water them. In the meantime, I will take care of the runner."

As the activity increased in the courtyard, the Lady MRed set to work, carefully fumigating the compound, and getting together a bundle of the things that the runner would need. She sat down at her table, and wrote a message to the Angel Jahakemhotep.....

"The Angel Jahakemhotep:

Your runner arrived in bad shape, and I kept him for a day or two to help him rest and recover. He bears with him the herbals you requested, enough for your entire party. Be sure to give everyone double doses of the tea of the herb "Malaricus". This will alleviate the symptoms, and give you some immunities. Also enclosed is a atomizer filled with my proven mosquito repellant. Use it freely on yourselves, as it regenerates in an hour. There is a bundle of pellets in the sack, these can be placed in strategic spots around the camp, and burned slowly. These will crate a lovely cloud that will surround the camp and keep the biting things at bay. Also enclosed is a large supply of your favorite teas. Please give the runner the small pouch hanging on the left side of the saddle of the larger camel. It is a small token of my appreciation for his sacrifice. He will be able to take care of his family for the rest of all of their lives with what is in the pouch.

You, my dear friend, take good care of yourself and your group, and get them all back to us safely.

By the way, the capstone arrived today. It is wondrous! The cart pushers had a fierce battle with hippos along the way, and I am sorry to tell you that we lost two of them. I will compensate their families for the loss.

If you find your way to North Dashur in the next few months, look me up. I will be there, supervising the final stages of the building of the pyramid there.

Take care, my friend,

Lady MRed"

She looked up from her writing, and noticed PAC sitting in the shade of the palm. "Ah, PAC, faithful friend. I would not desert you at this time. I was wondering when you were going to wake up. You have been sleeping a long time. I think you better lay off of that water pipe. The herbs are a bit potent for you."

"He FINALLY showed up????? Took him long enough. I sent him three weeks ago with your copy....Sorry. Oh, PAC!! I am so happy for you. but the task ahead of you is a long and ardous one. Therefore, as my gift to you, I present you with this sledge of bricks, as you will find a surprising lack of bricks and other amenities along your journey. Use them wisely.....And, as a small token, a bundle of herbs that isn't quite as potent as the last ones. There is also a bundle of the herbals I just perfected, they will give you some added energy. Have fun on your trip, and beware of the hippos, hyenas, crocodiles, and ostriches........"

MRed indicated a train of camels, and, helping PAC to mount up, escorted her to the gates. "Be sure to throw lots of parties for the gods......"

PAC continued to wave until she was far down the road, and her song floated back on the air..'Follow the Kingdom Road.......'
