Well, it seems we are done with the Barge Trip.

Our little group of travellers traveled from Alexandria to Aswan, more or less during Cleopatra's time. Incontinentia suggested w move further back in time and pay a visit to that well known boy king Tut-Ankh-Amun.

Homage to thee, Osiris, Lord of Eternity, King of the Gods, whose names are manifold, whose forms are holy, thou being of hidden form in the temples, whose Ka is holy."

...suddenly, out of the darkness, MRed slipped up to the group huddled next to the pillar. "Hi, guys," she whispered. "I will stay here with you until the rest of the group shows up. We can keep watch and let them know what is happening when they get here."

She spread the voluminous robes she was wearing, and the small creatures snuggled up close. (The whole group was a tiny bit frightened, but none of them would ever admit it.)

(OK, apologies in advance for dicking around with historical fact...I've mangled time-dates to fit this adventure...)

...Incon & Tusky were stuck on the wrong side of the Nile.

Just then ET came trotting up to them. "Where's Jayhawk?" he asked.

"He flew over us and headed toward the Temple," Incon replied. "But - how are *we* going to get there? Those guys are going to need some pachadermian back-up!"

Tusky, despite his anger at the Queen's abduction, allowed himself a small grin of pride.

ET looked around, and spotted a figure on a hill by the bank, not far away. "D'you think he's a ferryman? Or maybe he knows somebody with a boat."

Incon looked to where he was pointing at the robed and bearded man holding a long staff. "Well, it's worth a shot. Hop on."

"How?" ET looked at her incredulously (never having mounted an elephant it were...).

Tusky obligingly raised his foreleg and Incon told him how to use it as a step. With her pillion securely on Tusky's back, they ambled toward the strange man.

"Erm - excuse us," Incon smiled politely at the stranger, "but - are you by any chance a boatman or a ferryman? You see, it's imperative that we find some way across this river..."

The majestic man looked at them with piercing eyes. Then he turned back and stared at the river.

"Maybe he didn't understand you," ET suggested.

Before Incon could reply, the bearded man raised both his arms and pointed his staff. The river began to boil and churn directly in front of him. Gradually, a depression formed in the water until it seemed to be pulled away at 2 form a damp pathway on the riverbed. The path was flanked by 2 walls of water. Incon and ET gasped audibly. Tusky raised his trunk in surprise.

The bearded man looked at them and nodded in the direction of the river.

"Go! Go!! Before he changes his mind!" ET urged.

"OK...On, Tusky!" Incon urged her faithful pet down the riverbank and into the miraculous pathway. Tusky went but whimpered slightly, mindful of the 2 walls of water on either side. He could see fish swimming in the water. He hoped this miracle-worker didn't change his mind while they were halfway across.

Incon turned around and called to the man. "THANK YOU!" she shouted back at him as they reached the opposite bank. "We can't thank you enough - er, Mr....Mr...."

"Moses," the man replied.

As soon as they were safe on the other side, Moses lowered his arms. The river fell back in on itself, obliterating the path they'd just crossed and gradually returning to its peaceful gentle tide.

"Who *was* that guy?!" Incon gasped as Tusky started trotting towards the Temple.

"I dunno," ET sighed, "but I have a feeling his talents would go perfectly with freeing thousands upon thousands of Egyptian slaves."

"D'you think?" Incon asked, mulling over the idea.

"Hey, I'm no expert," ET told her, "but it strikes me that anyone who can part a huge body of water could...I dunno...bring down Manna from Heaven!"

"Yeah, you're right," Incon agreed. "A guy like that could do *anything*..."

"Hey, look," ET interrupted her thoughts. "Isn't that the temple just ahead?"

"OK, crunch-time, folks," Incon looked at the approaching Temple worriedly. "Tusky...Tusky! No trunk-bashing until I say so! OK?"

Tusky glared at the familiar Temple and started walking faster...

Tusky steadily gathered speed, his tree like legs going up and down like the pistons of some mighty engine. ET was hanging on to Incon for dear life and enjoying every second of it.

The temple guards found urgent business elsewhere and fled sideways as Tusky rammed the gold sheethed doors of the temple.

The doors burst open and the priests scattered like embers in the wind.

MRed, mouse, Ankhy and Rat followed after. The kitten jumped down and raced towards Akhensenamen and Aton's high priest.

Jayhawk swooped down from the pylon in the same direction.

The priest grabbed his iron knife and put it to the Queen's throat as Tusky started using priest as croquet mallets. Jayhawk landed on the dais and walked towards the man, his eyes flashing.
"Don't come any closer or...ouch!"

He dropped the knife as Ankhy sank his nails and teeth in the priests ankles. Akhensenamen elbowed him in the stomach and flung her arms around the angels neck.
"You came for me..." she whispered.

"Archers, " the high-priest yelled as he tried to get rd of the tiny kitten wrapped around his ankle.

"Oh, oh, " MRed mumbled, "this could get messy."
She took a step forward as suddenly the sky opened and light poured over the courtyard, like molten gold.

"Not you again..." the voice of Aton sounded from the vaults of Heaven.

Homage to thee, Osiris, Lord of Eternity, King of the Gods, whose names are manifold, whose forms are holy, thou being of hidden form in the temples, whose Ka is holy."

MRed stepped forward, her eyes flashing dangerously.....

"YES SIR!!! It is US again! These horrid people keep messing with our friends, and, since we stick together, and have ALWAYS looked out for each other, we came to the rescue AGAIN this time!"

The golden light glowed brighter and brighter.....

"We are in trouble now," MRed whispered in a quavering voice...."When will I learn to keep my big mouth shut?"

The group huddled together and waited for what was surely going to happen.....

Jayhawk led Ankhesenamen off the dais and down to the others, who were huddled in the middle of the Temple hall. Everyone clustered around Tusky's forelegs.

The light continued to grow.

Incon & ET descended off Tusky's back and joined their friends. "Well, here's a fine thing," Incon sighed. "One minute I'm dancing with a King, next I'm totally pissing off a god."

"We did the right thing,, right?" MRed asked.

"Of course! After all - what else could we do?" Jayhawk reminded them, looking at the Queen.

Ankhesenamen looked at them all gratefully. "Please, my friends, let me assure you that if none of you survive this, Tut and I will have all your remains mummified by our Personal Embalmers, and placed in the most expensive sarcophagi, surrounded by many jewels, items of finest gold and icons of the god of your choice."

"Well, *that's* a relief," ET cocked an eyebrow at her.

Just then, the boom of a warrior's horn sounded at the open temple doors. Everyone looked around and saw Tutankhamun, flanked by his mighty army.

An armed troop of temple guards started forming in front of the dais. The Roman travellers suddenly realised they were in the middle of what could easily become a bloody battlefield.

"Is there *any* way we can surreptitiously nip off to the side?" mouse asked politely.

And the light from above grew even brighter...

Well, ET says..The thought of such a glorious hereafter...doesn't seem to afford me that much absolution. My life hasn't been dull by any means...and listening to these guys has almost gave me strength to take up an abstemiously quieter life from this day forward.

Everyone is staring in disbelief, as ET trails off in his oration about a change of lifestyles..heheh snickers begin to become audible.

Hey!! this IS serious stuff here...and again we are are on the brink of disaster, and ..huh "oh" 'M' r'you have a stash of 'herbals' and.. and. and a whole barrel of Egyptain 'Lager' there is a Guardian Angel after MRed. We have to protect these 'treasures...what'd'ya think..yeh I thought so..

OUR LUCK IS ABOUT TO CHANGE...I can feel it...Incon make it happen,,you and Tusky..

Gather up our furry little companions and give Angel Jay the word...the whole of this Pharaoh's dynasty is in our hands.. We MUST overcome...heheh but not the herbal heh Mred?

Incon looks over the situation...remembers fondly those moments lambada-ing and soooo engaged with the King... *poof* an IDEA...!!!!!

Incontinentia asks the god to dance. The golden light gets brighter and the god smiles.

I'de love to dance my Lady the god whispered with a sound like thunder. But let me disarm this band of faithless priests. How dare the treat my friends so his voice thundered. The temple guards dropped their weapons and lay flat with heads covered wailing.

King Tut's troops shook but stood firm then the god turned and smiled at them a fearful sight to behold. Oh faithful troops of King Tut you have nothing to fear from me. You who came to rescue my friends.

Jayhawk smiles at Incon as she carefully steps forward. See flashes him an anxious smile in return. Ankesenamen wraps he angel's arms around her as Tut-Ankh-Amun walks up to them, wearing scale mail and his blue war crown, a mace a this side.

He stops next to them and looks at Jayhawk.
"She's brave this friend of yours."
"That's one of the many reasons why I love her," the angel replies.
Ankesenamen takes her cousin's hand as the selnder governor takes another slow step forward.

Mouse has climbed on Ankhy's head and watches the her friend, softly muttering to herself.

"Angel Jay...?" Gustavia asks as she joins them.
", " the angel murmurs his eyes glowing golden in the light of Aton

The molten light floats down, light as dandelion puff. His priests hiss in shock, some of them casting themselves down to the ground. The high priest is gnashing his teeth.

Aton flows towards Incontinentia, bathing her in the light of the morning. Jayhawk softly starts singing, his friends taking up the melody, and after a while so do the temple musicians.

The light leads her into the dance and Incon follows flowing in and out of it's embrace. The dance goes on and on and slowly Khefr pushes the solar disk over the horizon. The slanted light fires highlights from the gold, jewels and spearheads of the assembled groups.

Aton's light fades as the dawn grows in strength.

The music stops until only the angel's voice can be heard, rising in a hymn to the morning sun. One by one Aton's singers join in the song.

Incontinentia stands alone in the courtyard. She stumbles, but before she can fall Jayhawk is by her side and lifts her up in his arms, cradled like a kitten.
"What happened..." she mumbles.
"You did it again, lady, you danced the night away"
Incon smiles and falls asleep in the angel's arms.

Mouse runs up Jayhawks legs,
"Is she okay?"
"Yeah, just sound a sleep..."

Incontinentia woke up, after an exceedingly long slumber, in a chamber in the royal wing of the Egyptian king's palace. Two young Egyptian servant girls, noticing Incon stirring from her sleep, rushed to her bedside to see to her comfort. They pushed aside the pastel colored silk veils, then knelt on the floor, heads bowed, awaiting Incon's commands.

Still groggy from the adventures of the night before, Incon hardly noticed they were there. Finally, both eyes opened and focusing, she saw the two servants before her. "Good morning," she said. "At least I think 'morning' is correct. Where am I, anyway? And how'd I get here?"

The two servant girls looked up at their somewhat bewildered mistress, giggled and quickly bowed their heads in renewed silence realizing the trouble they'd earn from laughing at the plight of a most honored guest of the Pharaoh of Egypt.

"So you're awake?"
Incon looks up and sees Jayhawk entering the room. The angel is wearing a plain white linnen kilt and only a single jeweled bracer. He's carrying a silver plate with a white cloth.
"I think so..?"
"You had pleasant dreams?"
"I...I dreamed I was dancing."

Jayhawk smiles and sits down besides her on the bed.
"You were dancing yesterday. Hungry?"
She smiles brightly,
"Starving I'd say."

The angel takes the the napking from the plate and shows her a bowl of bread, some fruit, cheese and a pitcher of beer.
"Would this do?"
"Great, " the slender Britton replies and digs in.

"Was I really dancing yesterday? At the party? With the King?"
"Well, not really with the king, you were dancing with Aton after his priests had kidnapped Ankhesenamon"
"I did what!?"
"You danced with a god again, til morning broke and he had to get back to work. His priests are still debating whether to worship you or fear you."
"How did I get here then?"
"You fell asleep in my arms and I carried you here and put you to bed. You slept like a baby, it's nearly evening."

"Thanks you for looking after me."
With a smile she offers him a slice of pommegranate.

MRed, sitting on the knee of one of the huge statues in the courtyard, watched the elephants get more and more restless. "HHMMMMMMMMMMM", she said to herself. "Hey, guys, up here!"

The elephants craned their necks to look up to where she was sitting.

"How about a small bit of "hay" to tide you over?" she said.

The elephants all shook their heads up and down, not really knowing MRed, and not knowing if they could, in fact, answer her in a way she could understand.

MRed reached into one of her many pockets, and withdrew a large bundle of her world-famous herbs. She untied the string holding the bundle together, and tossed the bundle down so the elephants could reach it.

They hungrily munched, and soon a smile appeared on each of their huge faces......

MRed chuckled quietly to herself......

Incon stood up from the silk-draped bed and stretched. "Thanks for all your help, Jayhawk," she smiled at her friend.

"My pleasure," he smiled back.

Suddenly mouse came scampering in. "Incon - your delivery from Londinium has arrived! And they're restless!!" she panted.

"Oh well - time to go to work, I suppose," Incon shrugged, donned an Egyptian dress and stepped out into the courtyard. Jayhawk and mouse followed her.

They found the two grand elephants - gifts for the King and Queen - trotting around the courtyard, frightening the servants. Tusky, being a well-trained pachaderm, looked on at their antics with disdain.

"I tried giving them some herbals, but it doesn't seem to have done the trick," MRed commented from her perch on a huge statue's knee.

Incon nodded. "There's only one way to sort this out." She placed two fingers in her mouth and whistled sharply. Instantly the Britannian elephants came to a halt and faced her, awaiting the next command.

"That was brilliant!" ET gasped, taking the freshly-filled flagon of ale handed to him by a servant. "How do you get them to do that??"

"It just takes a lot of love, patience...and if all else fails, sugar cane." Incon reached into the pocket of her dress and brought out two pieces of fresh cane for the animals.

Just then, Tutankhamun and his cousin-wife entered the Guests Quarters' courtyard. "Oh, Ankhesenamen - look! Our elephants have arrived!!" Tut cried with delight. Ankhesenamen clapped her hands and hopped up and down excitedly - then, seeing Jayhawk, composed herself immediately.

"Right - who feels like a riding lesson today?" Incon asked them.

"Me! Me! Me!" Tut and Ankhesenamen raised their hands and hopped about. (They were still youngsters, after all.)

"Anyone else?" Incon looked around at the group of travellers.

"Why not?" Gustavia suggested. "Let's go outside the city and make a day of it."

"We can pack a picnic for lunch!" mouse squeaked.

"Are you sure those Londinium elephants are fully tamed?" Jayhawk muttered in Incon's ear.

"They should be," she replied. "I strictly requested fully trained riding animals. If not - we've always got Tusky to keep them in line."

Tusky grinned smugly at the angel. Then burped.

"Still, I think we should travel to the riding ground in chariots, and you can take it from there," Jayhawk, ever the safety-conscious angel, suggested.

"Fair enough," Incon agreed. "Get ready, everyone. Let's make a day of it, eh?"

Ankhesenamen could barely contain her excitement, and went off to change her dress for the 10th time that morning. Tutankhamun approached Incon. "May I ride Big Tusky to the svelt with you?" he asked, looking deeply into her eyes.

"Uhh....humina-humina-humina...." Incon spluttered.

"I'll go see to the picnic fixings!" mouse announced as everyone went to their rooms to dress.

As Jayhawk finally gets back to the courtyard the expedition seems ready to roll (and maybe rock a little). As he looks round he seesm half a dozen chariots and the three elephants, packed with picnic supplies. Hampers with food, jugs with beer and wine even a couple of gaily coloured parasols.

Mouse, Ankhy and MRed share a bright red chariot. Gustavia is talking to ET and Lion Tamer.

Incon is standing next to the King, who's dressed in his finest hunting garb. Her face is flushed and her blush... She stammers when the King asks her a question, her eyes almost as large as saucers and brighter than a pair of stars. The angel smiles.

"You're driving with me, aren't you?"
A soft voice sounds behind him. Jayhawk spins round and finds himself looking down into the deep brown eyes of Akhensenamen. She's looking most fetching in her sheer linnen dress with the lapis and kohl make her eyes seem to glow.
"Aren't you?"
"Oh, absolutely wonderful. Come!"
She grabs his hand and pulls him towards her chariot.

"I shouldn't have laughed at Incon, I shouldn't have laughed at Incon, I..." the angel mumbles as he followes the Queen.

Each guilty party covers there mouth to hide the grins. Gustavia and ET have the good grace to turn away. Lion Tamer, Luther the lion, Ankhy and mouse are just rolling on the ground making no effort to hide their laughter. MRed and Civis Romanus just roll their eyes at each other. Enough already AJ and Incontinentia say in chorus it's time to get this show on the road. Incontinentia whispers to AJ sure hope my face isn't as red as yours. Oh I was just thinking the same thing about you whispered the angel with a wicked grin. At that Incontinentia turned away

"OK!!" MRed shouted..."Who wants to race?" she whistled sharply to her golden steeds, who reared and whinnied. "Hang on everybody!"

Her horses came down on their front legs, and began to paw the dirt, raising billows of dust....

When the dust cleared, all that could be seen was the sparkle of her red chariot, slowly fading into the distance.....

"Yippeeeee!' she shouted....

Gustavia shivered all over. This was too familiar. Last time they had a chariot race it almost ended in disaster.

"MOUSE!" she screamed.

Gustavia started pulling boxes, picnic supplies, food and beer from the cart. She completely disappeared beneath the carefully packed gear and finally surfaced with a large ugly purse.

"Come here, mouse. You, too, Anhky! I knew when I haggled at the bazaar for this thing, it would come in handy."

Mouse and Anhky heard the commotion and quickly surmised what Gustavia had in store for them. Wanting no part of being safe on an adventure, they ran from Mred's chariot and hurriedly scampered up Big Tusky's leg.

"Ha ha, you cant catch us!"

"Oh, Gustavia, dont be such a worry-wart," ET exclaimed.

"Come on and ride with me. What in the world could happen to us on such a fine afternoon in the beautiful Land of the Two Pharaohs?"

Suddenly the air shimmered and the horizon shimmied and a large irridescent portal opened up in the middle of virtually nowhere. Out tumbled a blue and gold attired swordsman, wearing strange armor and carrying a short sword.

"By the gods, Titanicus! How many times have I told you to practice your magic on someone else!" The strangely attired man, of moderate stature, seemed to be yelling at the now disappearing portal and at no one in particular.

He brushed off his clothes, then stood straight and upright, realizing belatedly that he was not alone. He slowly turned, hand to sword hilt, to see who or what was there.
The man relaxed when he recognized Incon, Jayhawk and the others.

"Civis Romanus, you really need to have a long talk with that celtian," said Jayhawk. "Civis, you are now in the presence of Tutankhamun, Pharaoh of Egypt and Ankhensenamen, the Queen." Turning to the Egyptians Jayhawk said, "I present Civis Romanus of Rome."

Civis promptly lowered himself to one knee and bowed in recognition of the royalty before him. "Your servant," he said.

The Pharaoh said, "Rise, Civis Romanus, you are welcome here as are all friends of Jayhawk." Ankhensenamen then spoke. "You seem familiar to me...I recall a ball and someone with wine and a faulty chair...or something like that."

Civis' face turned red. "Uh, uh...", was all his voice could muster. Incon snickered. Jayhawk barely choked down a laugh. Gustavia put her hand to her mouth to hide the smile beginning to form.

Civis tried to change the subject. "Do I understand correctly that you are about to have a chariot race?"

Six chariots raced their way into the desert. From them could be heard squeaks, meows, laughs and cries of excitement from the drivers & their passengers. Incon looked on from Tusky's back.

"You Romans certainly have a knack for chariot-racing," King Tut commented, behind her.

Incon nodded. "But I see your wife's chariot is pulling ahead."

Ankhesenamen's chariot, driven by Jayhawk, pulled to the lead and crept away from the others.

"How soon til we can have our riding lesson?" Tut fairly hopped in his seat. "I want to learn to command my own elephant!"

"I suggest we let that lot tire themselves out first...around lunchtime, I should say," she told him.

"More like early afternoon," ET Flavius commented, appearing at Tusky's front knee, holding a flagon of Egyptian beer.

"ET! I thought you were on Gustavia's chariot," Incon said.

"The way *she* drives??!?! Not on your life!!!" ET replied.

Just then, a gaggle of priests came over the hill they were standing near. On seeing Tusky, they fell to their knees and bowed their heads to the ground. They began chanting.

"What's all this in aid of?" Incon asked.

Tut listened to the chant. "It seems...they're in awe of you. For dancing with their god."

"That?!" Incon gasped. "It wasn't even a proper Lambada! More like a quick tango and half a offense to your father's deity, Your Majesty..."

The head priest rose and approached them, head bowed, still chanting.

"I don't like the looks of this," ET muttered, going protectively behind Tusky's front leg. Tusky stroked him with his trunk (hoping for some beer as a reward).

"I agree," Incon nodded. "We'd better get Jayhawk over here, and fast..."

The six chariots were rounding the far bend in their self-selected oval racetrack. Jayhawk's chariot led slightly. The rest were closely packed behind him.

Civis Romanus' chariot was in second place by a horse's nose. But it didn't matter. The thrill of the race and the amusement it brought Civis and his co-rider, a young servant girl from Ankhesenamen's entourage of servants, was enough for him. Her eyes were opened wide in excitement and there was no restraining the smile spread across her lovely face. Her dark brown hair and youthful face reminded him of Apolita, except for the servant's much darker complexion and brown pupiled eyes that were obviously Egyptian instead of Celtic.

It was on the far side of the turn that Civis saw the newly arrived group of priests approaching the King, Incon, Tusky and ET. He yelled at Jayhawk. "Look there, ahead, we have company!"

Jayhawk looked over his shoulder at Civis, then to where Civis pointed. Jayhawk yelled back,"Let's see what they want!" With that Jayhawk pulled to the right on the reins of his horses and directed them in full stride towards Incon and the priests. Civis followed Jayhawk by a chariot's length. The others slowed their horses wondering what the two were up to. They in turn saw the priests and also directed their teams back to where the race began. It wasn't but a short minute before Jayhawk and Civis were pulling back on the reins of their horses, coaxing them to stop at a place very near where the King and the others were standing.

Jayhawk hopped down off the chariot and strode over to Incon. "What's going on here, Incon?" he asked, deliberately staring at the head priest with unblinking eyes.

MRed turned around with a sheepish look on her face. "Ummmmmm, Ahhhhh, Uhhhh." She looked at Big Tusky, who was blushing furiously..."Uh, BT, you gotta help me out here....." BT just gulped and looked away.

"I...uh...ummmmm, I gave them a big bag of my special "Giza Gold" blend last night, and they must have smoked it all..." BT was still looking the other way. "Uh, BT, tell them how you helped me." Bt, continuing to blush, said, "I, uh, well.....I gave them 3 barrels of ET's best beer, shared my portion with them...."

Both MRed and BT had the grace to look ashamed of themselves....

The hand full of priests were still kowtowing Incontinentia, who looked positively uncomfortable. Jayhawk walked up to the closest of them and looked down. He reached for the man's nape and lifted him like a kitten.

"Now listen here, " he said, his voice silk and ice. The priest looked up, his pupils large as an owl's.
"I want you chaps to pack up your things and stop bothering my friend"
"But..." the priest mumbled.
"No buts, do I remind you that Aton proclaimed her friend as well?"
The priest shivered visibly, the angel's words finally starting to trickle in to his conciousness. He blanched slightly.
"Yes Sir, understood sir..."
Jayhawk let him fall to his feet
"Now git." His eyes were flashing and the dark wings a shadow behind him.

The priest scrabbled his stuff together dragged his companions to their feet and the lot of them fled back into the desert.

"Thanks, Jayahwk," Incon said from BT's back
"Yeah, thanks, " MRed mumbled, fumbling for a herbal.
"You were wonderful, Jayhawk, " Akhensenamen smiled radiantly at the angel, who promptly blushed.
"Could you teach me that trick, Lord Jayhawk?" Tut-Ankh-Amun asked "or do I need wings to pull that off?" Pharaoh smiled to and then looked at Incontinentia.
"Do you think we can start with our lessons?"

Homage to thee, Osiris, Lord of Eternity, King of the Gods, whose names are manifold, whose forms are holy, thou being of hidden form in the temples, whose Ka is holy."

The two elephants leaned against BT each whispering in his ear Nobody rides us unless they name us they whispered

BT turned to Incontinentia to repeat what he'de been told.
hummmm Your Highness studdered Incontinentia it seems the elephants want you and the Queen to name them. Angel Jayhawk hides a smile behind his hand as everybody rode up to see what the priests wanted. Dust was everywhere. Gustavia, mouse and Anhky were giggling again. This is just too much fun they whooped.

The picnic is on hold until the Pharaoh and the Queen name the elephants. ET sips his beer thoughtfully
