OK.. New thread

South Texas is having spring-almost-summer weather. High 80Fs and breezy. Showers in the afternoon.

I have some kind of vine growing on a wrought iron structure. It is doing fine, and is showing off its ONE flower again. Now, I appreciate ONE flower, but how come after 3 years it isnt covered with purple blooms?

LOL I won't make mistakes with constellation names, don't worry. I've never seen Ursa Major (constellation which contains the big dipper) before. Our area doesn't allow it, because it would be too low from the horizon to see.

Rise in temperature? You mean the rain actually warmed up the place??

I'm far enough north that the big D is always visible.

Yes..marine air from the west provides warmer rains moderating the cold air we get from the High Cascade Moutains to the east..which have glaciers covered with ice and snow

It sounds fun, with the great Pacific to the West and Cascade range to the East. We have water all around.

That's a good way to put it..we have two good sized Rivers that handle the Mountain run off..and numerous Lakes to buffer the flooding in the spring. So it isn't a nasty deal at all..more like a balance in Mother Nature that works pretty well

Mmm. Yes, balance is the word to use. What are the two 'good sized rivers'?

The rivers are The McKenzie, and Willamette..the latter being the main drainage waterway. It will travel north to Portland and join the Columbia there, Another river flows west and it is called the Siuslaw...actually you can find out about every river in the State of Oregon here:

Mmm... I've never seen those 3 rivers on the map... I'll try to look for them more carefully...

Raining here today for the first time in over a week. The weather was great for the golf game, mid 70s and partly cloudy

Here is a link to a great map of the cascade range: Cascade Volcanos
I haven't been to many of them, but I do have to say that Mt. Lassan is my favorite place in the country to hike. Absolutely beautiful and nobody ever visits there
Also, there are many other mountains in the Cascades, this is just a listing of the active volcanos in the Cascades. Mt. Saint Helens was the last one to erupt and before that is was Mt. Lassan sometime around 1917, but most of these mountains are considered active and could go off like St. Helens did.

Great link Memsurs ..it helps DX see that the area where I live has quite a lineup of Mountains to the east..we are about 40 minutes from some of the Ski passes.

My link is an alphabetical listing of our streams in Oregon..I'm unsure if there's any decent maps.

Cold and rainy today...even too cold for the Ducks and Geese;0

ET, I loved your link! It doesn't have any maps (at least from what I saw) but I have added the main page of the link it to my favorites! Wonderful information for whitewater rafting! I am going to have to go sometime this summer

Nice link, Memsurs.

ET, I see that you are 'dangerously near' the mountain range?

Thanks for noticing DX ...the snow covered peaks provided by the mountains give a beautiful backdop against the skyline..we receive raving compliments from our visitors.

Rain has ceased..momentarily, so the air is cold and damp. I'm trying to fill all the bird feeders..I know my feathered friends are hungry about this time of year.

Is Eugene east of Portland? That makes it even nearer the range. The scenery out of the window must be great.

Nope..South..of Portland. Look at Memsurs link, and note where the "Mt Bachelor" text is placed..Eugene is about where the "B" in Bachelor is.. I see if there's a map that is viewable through links..or maybe someone already has one...that'll be more precise.

New Year is still five hours away..and I hear fireworks on the Lake already..

Oh, my.. we may get SNOW here in South Texas today

They are predicting flurries for the city, and maybe one or two inches north of town.

Nice that today is a holiday, because we have no experience driving in snow or ice

Yep, Duan Xuan .. snow this far south is very unusual. We are the same latitude as Cairo, Egypt.

The jet stream has pushed way down and is bringing us some Artic air. We didnt get any sleet or snow, but tonite will be well below freezing. Should be over with by the next day, though

Yikes Gustavia ..if you folks have drivers like we do when it's icy ..pleeease stay home..for Maggie's sake ..eerrhm..I mean..for goodness sakes

Slow drippy rain..not quite as cold, but far from warm The bird feeders are busy..so I need to check them regularly.

Hope the bit of winter in South Texas is brief..and back to normal soon

Weather here has been nice. We had another earthquake this morning and as usual, it woke my wife up and I slept through it. I have yet to feel an earthquake since I moved to California but have slept through four of them. It was only a small one this time, though, at 4.3. I probably don't want to experience one that will wake me up

Send a slice of that warm weather our way I have a cousin, who lives in San Jose..the tremors "rock" him to sleep. Like you..he really hates the ones that wake him up...might be because he's a retired Firehouse EMT.
