A short summary of Roulv Danias entrance into the story: ------------------------ After arriving to Roma in the afternoon and being the innocent source for adding to the ever circulating gossip, Roulv Dania is patiently waiting at a tree at the roadside right outside Civis's villa. ------------------------ Titus, Gaius or Civis hearing the gossip about a stranger on a black horse is the trigger for posting my first post.

This story is labeled as #III, having not read them, would it be to my advantage to read the prior Silk Road stories to properly understand where this story comes from or could this tale be considered a stand alone? I seemed to get an impression there are references in this thread that refer back to the previous stories.
Looking forward to following along.

Stryker, I think it would be a good thing to read the other two as well.
I have a feeling that finishing all two previous sequels will take me a long time. I've just spent about an hour just to read 50 posts in Silk Road I. It looks very interesting so far.

Don't expect me to join anytime soon ... I seem to have been reading for hours tonight but am only one fifth through the first story. Really enjoying it though.

Glad that I'm not the slowest.
Meanwhile, I think I'll start reading the new story...

"SILK ROAD I" only happens to be one of the longest stories in the Story Archives. It's no wonder it takes awhile to read it front to back... or is it back to front. Funny how stories end right where the thread starts.
Have fun. We did when writing it...
Then go to A DISTURBING PEACE. I dare you to guess who the real killer is and the motive before they're revealed in the story. No cheating either!
BTW - Even in the opening posts to SILK ROAD III none of us is giving away the solution to A DISTURBING PEACE. Okay writers, you all heard that. No telling anyone the solution to the mystery!

PCD: You're welcome. I guess I'll wait and see exactly how it was I helped you.
You don't have to wait for Micah to post. Civis will entertain Titus in my next post with a trip the next day to the bathhouse. It will be one of the last in a series of connecting posts that ties Silk Road III to the previous two stories.
I would like to suggest that Dania receives medical care, rests, samples Civis' hospitality and does whatever he wants to do around the villa. His face will be bandaged so that he won't upset the kids.
On the other hand, if you have other plans... go for it! I'll be watching your posts so that I can follow your lead.
Right now I'm watching developments in the land of the Ch'in. At some point Accipiter is going to make one of his surprise visits to Civis. I'm looking for clues on how to set the stage for his appearance as well as assisting with the "Dania" side of the plot.

Ah ha! Ren!
::Civis (the author) selects a taper and lights the candle on his writing desk, then bows his head in silent homage to the 900+ post story in THE HISTORY FORUM::
Things are becoming clearer. He's visited there before.
Well, do not expect me to start reading a 900+ post story
Who is 'Ren'?
BTW. Dania is serious about not bringing the wooden box inside the villa unless Civis says so after hearing what is about the box. That is why I placed Dania in a small guesthouse behind the villa.

Absolutely not, PCD! I'm looking for you to write not read. But here's an explanation of the inside joke.
I participated in a story in AOK Heaven (as "Lancer") that went 900+ posts long and had nothing to do with the Silk Road. Later, I used material from the unfinished story to create A KNIGHT MUST CHOOSE in Stronghold Heaven. It so happened that Jayhawk gave the character Ren a couple of cameo appearances in the 900+ post story. That's why I know who (or what) Ren will be.
Jayhawk will complete the explanation by fully introducing Ren. I don't want to give away the surprise or steal another author's thunder.
Hope you are still in the bathhouse Civis, as I do not like the tired and sore Dania to chase for you all day long

Ooops! Since Dania had taken a bath just the night before I didn't expect him to bathe again. Not even the wealthiest of Romans was that fastidious.
PCD, you will have to make the next post for the villa setting. I haven't a clue why Radko interrupted the trio's conversation. Please continue the dinner scene. I will post a "color piece" adding to the dragon scene.
Don't worry. I'm not abandoning the villa sequence. I will wait for Dania to finish his story and pick it up from there. I need to know all that Dania has to say so that I can flow the story smoothly and set up for Accipiter's arrival.
Civis Dania only wanted to use the bath for medical use -taking away the pain and stiffness from his sore mucles. As Dania has become quite practical he found he could as well eat while being there and with a bit off luck tell Civis and Titus his tale.
I will remove the line where Radko interrupts Dania as I don't have a clue either as I have a bit of trouble acting as Radko . I just needed a brake from writing and put the line so you had a chance to add a post if you liked. I did it this way for not putting a 'To be continued' line at the bottom and thereby stopping you and Jayhawk from adding to the story while waiting for the rest of Danias tale.
Jayhawk In the The Silk Road 1, we had an agreement that I was not to promote my faith. I ask you in the same way to respect my and Roulv Danias faith. What I mean is that Gaius has existed x thousand years, please be neutral when writing something that might tell Christ is or isn't the Son of God
I have nothing against if Gaius sometimes takes credit when something 'supernatural' happens to Dania
Dania has been a Christian now for more then 5 years and I can not see why he should be that more scared for the dragon than Civis and Titus. Being a Christian is not about being scared but rather do as asked even if scared half to death. A Christian sometimes will do things despite he or she is scared -because he/she finds reassurance in faith knowing only the body can be harmed. In the Christian faith a dragon is used as a symbol for the devil or a great evil, a dragon by itself might be a scary sight but not necessarily evil in it self.

Dania, I hoped that what I said was as neutral as I could on that account. It was not meant to slight anyone. It was meant as a short summary of christian beliefs to one who knows nothing of that faith (the dragon). Dragons do have a bad reputation in the christian faith, though, as half the depictions of satan paint im as a dragon.
Want me to remove it?

Quoted from Jayhawk:
"He belongs to the newest religion spreading over the world, they call themselves christians, after their dead teacher, the Christ. They say he was the son of their god, and their biggest adversary is depicted as a dragon. Still, Dania is a kind and gentle person, I think his teacher would have liked him."
I just ask you to change above to something like:
"He belongs to the newest religion spreading over the world, they call themselves christians after their teacher. Unfortunately their biggest adversary is depicted as a dragon. Still Dania is a kind and gentle person and I'm sure I can convince him you are not like the evil dragon mentioned in their scriptures"
Not that you have to use my surgestion word by word
The problem is that Gaius is an immortal angel. If Gaius says that "They say he was the son of their god" you actually say Christ is not the Son of God and thereby you interfere in the life of human beings as Gaius as an immortal angel will know for sure if Jesus is Christ or not (and by above quote imply that Gaius is against God). God likes us to belive in Christ as His son by our free choice
In the Christian faith Christ IS the Son of God and Christ also is immortal as He resurrected after being crucified (Gaius should know that) which also means Gaius can not say that "They say he was the son of their god" and "I think his teacher would have liked him."
I hope I explained the problem without having both feet in my mouth

Ooooh. I'm a dragon (After all, my real name is Ren, ok, my shortened real name is Ren)
If you guys don't mind, I am going to try and get some time to write a piece or two in this story. I would like to partially re-claim Sin Ying if that's ok with everyone.
