#6 - this really has to be a castle that children's sandcastles are based on; I would imagine it must be crusades (cross & crescent); I've looked at descriptions of LOADS of crusader castles in the middle east, but not one seems to have anything that could be described as a stone needle!

Is the special Kilauea in Hawaii - it appeared in a short story by Mark Twain as a volcano where King Kamehameha I was buried. I know the volcano exists, but am not sure whether the king was fact or Twain's fiction.
