Hi. I've got a competition file that may be very good for those who like them. It will be named "Herakleopolis." The rules will be:

  • The level can be done at either Easy or Normal; submissions at Hard or Very Hard level will not count as the level is difficult enough.

  • You need to properly plan your city, otherwise the level may become unwinnable.

  • Your starting debens will be around 30000Db at Easy and 15000Db for Normal.

  • You may not build outside the rocky area given for you; this gives you at least some protection.

No more will be said here. If you want to know any other details, please look at this thread:

http://caesar3.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/caeforumscgi/display.cgi?action=ct&f=25,7205,0,365

The competition will close on the 1st November at 9:00pm. Files submitted after this time will not count.

PS> How do you sumbit your file for a competition or to start one?

As in, do I email Granite Q or one of the angels the competition file so that it can be posted in the competition page?

Has this game been beta tested yet? and by whom?

For submissions, I suggest you advise players to zip their entry file and send it to your email address that can be found in your profile.

What is the competition goal?
Don't you mean: what are the ratings and population requirement?

Right the competition goal, is to create a bustling economy in difficult cirumstances and survive numerous attacks by Bedouin, Libyans, and the Egyptians. You will also need to build 3 monuments: a medium stepped pyramid, a large stepped praymid and a mausoleum.
Has this game been beta tested yet? and by whom?
I have beta-tested myself and it looks perfectly okay.

To people entering competition:

When you have completed the mission, please send your attached file to the email address in my profile.

Also, what do I do once I choose a winner? Do I give them a prize or something?

What is the win critrea ? To run a contest the people who enter it have to know what they are aiming for. Is it to be the fastest to your goals or the most money ?

The 3 monuments are just a completion critrea. A bustling economy doesn't give any guidelines for the contest.

I might be interested with a few more details. Cleopatra is my second favorite game.

speysider, to make it clear what joshofet and Caesar Clifford are asking.

The 'completion criteria' are the things that players must do in order to have a valid entry to your competiton. In your case this is presumably to complete the three monuments and to achieve the required ratings, prosperity, culture etc.

The 'winning criteria' (or competition goal) is the measure by which you will judge the entries in order to decide who has won. For example, as Caesar Clifford has suggested, is it the fastest time to achieve the completion criteria, or is it the most money or the largest population, or some other criteria? You will need to define this for players.

Edit 1: To all, the download is listed in the Pharaoh Scenarios section, so I presume it's a Pharaoh game. If so, the game can be played with or without Cleopatra.

Edit 2:
Also, what do I do once I choose a winner? Do I give them a prize or something?
Nope, no prize is necessary

The win criteria to win the mission is:

  • 1000 people
  • 8 Elegant Residences
  • Monument rating: 39
  • Kingdom rating: 100
  • Prosperity rating: 20
  • Culture rating: 15

The competiton criteria is that the person with the following right things wins.

  • The most money: this is crucial in this scenario.
  • The highest population rating
  • The most exports: list in your email.
  • The highest score
  • The quickest time which the level is completed/

YOU MAY NOT USE ANY CHEATS OR ANYTHING THAT WILL HELP MAKE YOU THE WINNER!!! IF CHEATS HAVE BEEN USED, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE CONTEST!

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ONLY USING PHARAOH AS I DON'T HAVE CLEO INSTALLED!!!

I don't understand this one

You are confusing winning and completion criteria Speysider. More importantly, you cannot beta-test a map yourself, you need an independent (experienced) tester for that, the idea is to check issues that you might have missed. You have very little experience with map design, so I would guess it is necessary someone helps you with this before you go public.

If you only have Pharaoh installed, it might be difficult to check entries made with Cleo on your PC, so even though the Pharaoh map can be played with Cleo, the Cleo saves may cause problems.

I do appreciate your efforts to help keeping this forum and game alive and kicking, and I guess it won't hurt if some players go ahead with your map only to find the rules are not laid out well enough (eg would you allow the pyramid speedup in Cleo?). In some other posts though you have been suggesting that people should shut down background processes or buy Vista, and I'm afraid those suggestion are less innocent. I know you are just a kid, and I really don't want to intimidate you, but I strongly suggest you take some more caution.

As for this "contest": I'll be happy to beta-test your map and guide you with setting out the rules in detail. That implies I won't test any other maps from you for the moment, I expect this project to take already more than I can handle . Tell me what you want.

Sorry, Was in a hurry and didn't type it properly. I meant: what was the highest number of debens ou made from exports and how many exports did you make?

Eg. Say you sold 10980Db and sold 90 products or raw materials.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly

To joshofet

I will be sending you the .map file of Herakleopolis and see if you can help me in the near future. I am currently on my laptop which does not have Pharaoh on it. I've just sent you a test email. If that doesn't come, it is probably being marked as spam mail.

speysider, as joshofet has pointed out, you still appear to be confused about completion criteria and winning criteria.

Could I make a suggestion? Why not try playing in a competition yourself first to see how they are run. Although there haven't been any here for some years, there's a site called CBC which runs regular competitions, I'm sure Joshofet can give you the link to it.

I notice also that Joshofet has offered to help out by beta testing your game and that you are in the process of sending it to him. I suspect that the beta testing procedure will not be completed in time for you to meet your original closing date of 1st November.

So, a second suggestion, why don't we pause progress on this game for now until you have fully consulted with joshofet and everyone can be confident that you have a game that players will find a challenge and enjoy.

If you agree, please say so and I'll lock this thread. Then you can start afresh with your your fully tested map when it's ready.

You may lock this thread, but when the beta-testing has been done. I'll post a thread, saying for this thread to be unlocked. For some reason, joshofet can't get my emails.

Thank you, speysider, I think that's the best thing to do.

I would suggest though that when the game is ready, you start a completely new thread for the game, containing all the relevant information there in one place. Thanks.

They are in the library section. A new C3 contest is about to start next week or so. If you register as a member at the forum, you can read all about it.

I have you mails now, and I hav e your files, as I mailed you privately. I second GQ's suggestion of locking this thread, and reopening when we have the contest ready. No need to open a new thread, I know how to reach him.

So this competition is on hold for a little while as explained
in posts #11, 12 and 13.

To those who have expressed an interest in playing this competition (and to any lurkers as well!), I ask for your patience. This competition will return in due course.

Many thanks.
