After a quite long hibernation, Guzzardo woke up with some confusion and hunger, but otherwise healthy. He remembered a subtle idea that could be long forgotten in the febler and weaker minds: "At the end of the year 2004, a little forumer called Winter Pharaoh shared with us the spark he had. 3 months later, the project was in its "latest stages", as the creator himself told. Sadly, misfortunes bursted into the poor guy, who had to postpone the ambicious work."

Now, Guzzardo asks himself whether those people weren't as benevolent as he thought, but treacherous, and made the competition without him, or if the flux of the aeons made those thoughts fade away with the wind.

Sorry I missed your post Guzzardo. Some things just don't develop as quickly as you would want to. By the end of 2004 WP's map was little more than an idea, it took quite some effort to develop that into a working map. I helped him in forming a team of testers and co-developers, and we have a map that is 99% ready. Two points: you never know how much time the final 1% will take, and secondly I haven't heard from WP in a loooong time. Maybe this helps. WP, please answer, there are people out there who need you!

It's great to see that the project is still being worked on. I thought I just missed it...

I was trying to bump up the old thread started by WinterPharaoh. Doesn't need to be bumped up too far, but it appears to have expired. Never new that could happen to a thread.

Anyhow. I'm sorry to have to inform you that WinterPharaoh won't be finishing this map. However, I'm equally pleased to inform you that he has handed it over to me and Civilis.

We have recently concluded the most important Round Robin test procedure, similar to how it will be played in the actual contest. We are now finishing up the map for actual play, making some final (minor) modifications. I won't set a date, but rest assured that we will complete "Maritis Merites".

The scenario is ready now.

I mean 100% ready.

The story of general Maritis will take place @ ancient-maps.com as the jubilee contest #100.

We'll have some unique special effects in that contest event.

Joshofet will deliver more info soon.

The game page is now open at Ancient Maps, where you can download a teaser version of the scenario. You can reach it through this forum thread. There is no need to register. The actual contest will start in a few weeks.

I will do my best to try and reach everyone who has shown an interest in this contest directly by mail. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please inform him or her, we want as many participants for this event as we can get.

I guess I have been able to reach most registrees directly by mail. Guzzardo23 bounces, Scipio has an odd address, and I don't have any info for aquae_sulis and seer01. If anyone knows how to reach them, I'd be obliged.

I just came back from a long travel to find these great news! My e-mail bounced because I had to eliminate it, and I later forgot to change my email. I just have two small questions, will the contest be for Cleopatra? In that case I'll have to pass the chance, as I don't own the extension.

Secondly, if I don't have to register, what do I have to do in order to receive the contest map? I wasn't able to understand that.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Guzzardo23, glad you're back. I'm sorry to inform you that the contest will indeed be a Cleo map . If you don't have the extension, there is no way of competing. We will certainly have Pharaoh contests in the near future, so keep on the lookout.

If you (still) want to download the starting position, just follow the link in message #7 above by clicking it. That will lead you to the forum thread where the preview map is discussed. The first post contains a link to the game page, which tells you how the contest is organised. It also contains a link where you can download the contest map.

Well, with Pharaoh alone you can load a Cleo save, but you have to hit immediately the 'p'ause key (preferably @ 10% speed) to avoid the crash. In this way you can have a look at the map, the prices, the kingdom map etc. - of course it won't run.

Two years ago I had to replace my original Cleo CD because it was horrible scratched in a dying CD drive. At ebay it costed 4-5 then (bundled with Pharaoh). Cleo was also bundled with the other games as 'great empires'.

Good luck.

The first stage of the contest has finished, but you can still jump in and play the remaining two stages. You can continue the game from either of the saves made by the players of the first stage. You can find all information here. Come and join the fun, there are some nice prizes to win too!

The second stage of the contest now also has finished, but you can still jump in and play the third and final stage. You can continue the game from either of the six saves made by the players of the second stage. As only the final result counts, you still have every chance of becoming a winner.

You can find all information here. Come and join the fun!
